I'm doing the swap out and i'm dropping in my 500ci Caddy but you need a adapter plate from a 368ci from a 1980 eldo . I can't wait until my dad and I finish the build, but the stock tranny won't hold up to the power of the 500ci that's why we're sending it to a guy in Virgina who's getting ours rebuilt and having the gears swapped for race gears that are made of titanium blend metal. By the way my Eldo is a 1985 Biarritz.
1979 was the best year for the 1979-1985 series of the FWD Eldorado..the 1979 had the 350 V8 with fuel injection built by Oldsmobile(Note :that same engine was 1st offered on the 1976 Seville)...The last year for that engine was on the 1980 Eldorados that were sold in Californis...She is a beauty I've owned 5 Eldorados of that design 3) 1981's 1)1982 & currently a 1985...long live the 3rd generation FWD Eldorados..1979 is what I'd love to own
It all depends on California's vehicle emissions laws.
A 350V8 in an Eldorado that had the HT4100 is becoming the thing now or an Eldo owner would put an Oldsmoble 307 V8(found on Toronado's from 1980-1985,1979 had the 350 for 1 year)in a 4100 eldorado..good luck with it & tell me how it worked
When you get one..AVOID THE DIESEL POWERED ELDORADOS! I had one 10 years ago which was a 1981 & the diesel pump died out & they are unreliable If you get a 1981 with the V8-6-4 make sure it runs on all 8 cylinders.they have such a notorious recall history..Just cut the solenoid wires to the rocker panels & reset the on board computer to get it to run on eight..the 5 I have owned 1981(1991)1982(1994)1981diesel(1999)1981V6(1999)1985(2003 TO Current)
I had a 307ci Olds that I swapped for the original HT4100 but it runs good but no power so I'm dropping in my 500ci Caddy with fully adjustable rocker arms and Eldobrock goodies. But I need to find a 368ci adapter plate from a 1980-1981 Eldo. I can't wait until my dad and I finish it and I show up these new muscle cars. But of course I'm getting my tranny rebuilt and modified by a guy in Virginia wish me luck!!
good luck with that. yeah putting in underpowered engines was the thing to do in the 80s in order for the manufacturers to meet government fuel economy standards
while that might be true, and while i like both cars, the eldorado won the luxury battle over the mark vii. the mark viis seem more like a sports car than a luxury. i havent found one video that shows off the mark vii's luxurious side.
I had a 79 too. miss that car

This Caddy is desperately racing to catch up to the Lincoln Mark VII that just dusted it a few miles back. Long live Lincoln !!!!
