For me, snakes are resevoirs of evil; if you see one, walk the other way; I have ophidiophobia and cringe when I see a snake in my presence, all I want to do is vomit somewhere. i am so certain, my friend. egypt might have contributed to the occult development in the west but not true in the new world. mayan/aztec/incan and many other mesoamerican and native american shamanic traditions predate those of egypt by at least 1000 years before. many of the customs, traditions were attributed to contact with other beings from planets who imparted knowledge of life. hence why in global mythology, all have a connection to beings from other planets or worlds.
