I remember that race well. Known Fact was going at 16/1, and being ridden by Willie Carson, I thought I'd invest a Fiver e/w. It was indeed a clever investment !!
this was before international/global racing took over, so the QE2 was a massively important race. The season all but ended with it (and the Arc). At the time it was as close to a Grundy-Bustino duel as we'd had for a while: young pretender against older streetfighter. I was hugely disappointed that Kris lost but when you see how far they're ahead from the others, nothing is lost in defeat. Only a pity there wasn't a rematch.
