  • What's amazing about JMU's band is they've always been good.. My mom went there back in '81 and she said she would only attend the football games to hear the band play, then leave after the half time show. That's a most impressive legacy. This is no phase. Get some, Dukes!

  • @SuperCutt In College, halftime is gametime!!! At my school, its the same

  • Eww, match gripped snares.......

  • @jgross547 thats my only issue i dunno if they are still matched tho

  • i just wanna know what kinda sticks the snares are using. . . . looks like jazz drumset sticks, but it could just be the camera being so far away.

  • Why does everyone care so much about the snare line using (or in this case not using) traditional grip... its nothing more than a way of holding the drumsticks

  • @2012Grizz i agree with you, but traditional grip compared to match grip is harder to learn and use, thus makes it more impressive. at least in the world of marching corps today that's the excuse. when i first saw the vid i was like "horrey shet match gripped snares on a university line!?" but honestly there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not traditional, no pun intended. personally my belief is that if a snare line can play their same music using both grips, its more awesome than just one.

  • this is awesome

  • It was band parents and band alumni day.

that guy was an alumni warming up. They do band parents day and MRD alumni band the same weekend. The last game of the season

  • it was band parents weekend, and they allow parents who are former band members to play during the warm up

  • Who is the random guy with the drum with the drum cover?

  • He's a band parent and a former JMU drummer.

  • how does he get to play withe the drumline

  • matched sucks. but this is still like clean anyways. but matched is AWFUL.

  • agreed!!!! traditional FTMFW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cool. Danny Larson is your cousin?

  • nephew

  • k, when was this vid taken? i am looking for Danielle Miller

  • CHRIS WALTON

  • I marched snare there from 1997 to 2000. They use matched grip because that's what they teach at the school of music there. flam-broiled whopper is in the book. It is played just about every year and sometimes added into the cadence.

  • Matched is superior in terms of playability. Undeniably. If all you focus on is image, you are not a musician.

  • you would be right for any other style of music.

but in drumline, music and visual are just as important.

  • wats wrong with matched grip.........

  • where can i find this cadence sheet music?

  • whats up with the matched grip on snares??

  • whats up with you having a problem with matched grip?!

  • yikes a college playin matched...

  • what no flam-broiled whopper? and since when di snares go matched grip when i was there last they were using traditional

  • JMU is an awesome band; they are a big band, their band kicks ass, but their drumline is like no other, xD.

  • my cousin is on there

  • does your cousin lift weights or sumthin, jeeze his arms are huge! Im was in JMU drumline. SNARES ARE MY THING!!!!!

  • Nephew. And yes.

  • oh gotcha. haha

  • thats my boy ralph right on the end.

next to the random old dude, haha.

  • if Ralph is the tall African-American fella, then he's standing right next to my nephew. :-)

  • you dont know your own nephew's name? hahaha.

yeah, i marched with ralph over the summer in 06 at JMU. he's really cool

  • of course I know my nephew's name; I just couldn't remember Ralph's name....
