  • Did you replace the neck pickup as well? Just curious. Nice tele. I have a swamp ash. Love it.

  • because you're a seasoned musician who's been playing for decades... how about you learn how to play first

  • yeah, go canada!

  • Id have to agree with the thoughts about tube amps Ive been playin 40yrs. [yes really] and once you go tubes you will never ever want to go back, cant explain it but nothing like it, nothing.

  • @1goodguitar oh forsure. i barely had a part time job at that time. I just sold my Mesa boogie Stiletto head and bought a 6505 for a change!

    more videos to come sir!

  • Hello, good Demo... Could you tell me what is the difference between the Lil 59 and the Hot Rail ??? I want use my Tele for Metal, but the Lil 59 sounds very good in your Video. Did you use the Hot Rail too ???

  • @DeadBodySoul If you are specifically playing metal, go hot rails. they do sound nice. Or i would seriously consider doing some work on your guitar and throwing in a real humbucker. you can imitate the sound of a HB but nothing is like the real thing, EVER IMO. The 59 is more versitile thats why i got it, over the hot rails

  • hahah waste of money man. until you have a tube amp, you wont know what tone is. you wasted soo much money on that line 6. my vox AC30 wold blow that thing up and end it running home to its maker :P

  • @joshuarugg agreed, this guitar RIPPED on my mesa stiletto, too bad theyre both no longer in my rig

  • That Line6 is stealing your tone!

  • @sidmalicious Line 6 *was* stealing my tone ;)

  • Duncan is best!

  • Ehm, the first clean sound of it was great.

  • UNDER THE BRIDGE DOWNTOWN!!!!!!!

also let it be almost like no woman no cry

  • UNDER THE BRIDGE DOWNTOWN!!!!!!!

  • Wow that sounds great!!!

does that little 59' fits in any teles' bridge?

I mean, like Squire ones, or Fender American Standard Teles.

  • You can actually mod it. Have a split of the Humbuckers.

  • @philotze your right! i was thinking about doing that mod to this

  • @philotze split = Push Pull on tone's pot for switch from single pickup to humbucker ? Sorry for my bad English, (I'm french :p)

  • @xRaZ0r38 Indeed you can! i actually did that mod to this guitar. Unfortunately it is no longer with me anymore :'(

Stay tuned for new videos, lots of new gear to demo!

  • 500k pots?

  • @pdawiec 250k

  • I would like to have heard some soloing with the 59, to hear how it sounded on the higher end. But I did get some good info. Thanx.

  • @flabeachcomber i agree

  • i want to modify a tele to make it sound a lot less twangy and more bassy than it is. any suggestion?

  • I had this 59 on my telecaster...but actually the original telecaster pick-up is as good as this for heavy metal too...especially for solos...so, in order to play hard rock, there's no point in replacing the original one (if it's a good one. My tely is a custom shop).

  • why doesn't everyone play Beatles for reviews. it pwns.

  • wicked sounding pickup.

  • your fly's unzipped

  • @yayayayayaya36 rock out with your cock out.

    great review!

  • nice video dude...you have a lot of knowledge about guitars, pickups...

    Greetings

  • i have a fullsize 59 in mine i didnt know they had a single coil version untill my friend told me. shit i already bought a new bridge installed every thing and have been using it since. this one sounds just like it, but a little bit spankier.

  • @titrator nope!

  • When you put the lil 59 in your tele, did you have to change the volume pot from 250k to 500K?

  • @titrator I kept my 250k with the little 59 and it sounds great

  • middle position?

  • nice demo. You might like the clean tone better if you play thru a nice tube amp. My friend has one of these and I think it sounds good clean (he backs the volume off a bit too I think)..but he has a $3000 rig.

But yah, distortion is where they shine most I think. That is great rock tone.

  • you better be sorry about the wait

  • What about rolling off some tone when you're using the Little 59'. It sounds like if you slapped some chorus on it it'd sound really cool

  • what were the chords you played, i have heard this before!

  • @bunit1001 Let it be by the beatles!

  • @1DAngus1 Thanks!

  • try coil tapping the duncan, might clear things up a little bit for a chimer tone . its kinda a bad idea to limit ur pickup choices specifically to clean/distortion.

  • @geoff1121 oh yea man forsure. i have and it did help a little. but usually with guitars i prefer to use my neck pickup when playing clean, i dont know why but i find myself doing it alot. i like the bassier tone it gives. definatly still use both p.u for both clean and dist.

  • great demo. thanks!

  • Good demo,I have many question about this pick-up,cause I´m play 80´s hard rock

this pick-up would be good for me?

    not lost a stratocaster tone?

you can play some Skid Row,Iron maiden song with this pick-up?

Thank you so much, and sorry for may bad English

  • AMAZING pick ups men .. which pick ups are this !?

  • @trindadedani A seymour duncan little 59 ..lol

  • play man ! omg

  • aboot

  • Great demo man. I'm customizing my own tele, and want to put in a bridge humbucker. This helped a lot. Thanks!

  • why would you ever put a humbucker pickup on a telecaster? if you want a heavier sound you should have gone gibson. that's not the sound that teles are meant to produce.

  • @nickmyers1213 Its not a "heavier" sound, its a fuller sound in my opinion

  • @nickmyers1213 theres no right or wrong sound wiv guitars man. Fender makes teles with humbuckers in them, just like gibson make sgs n les pauls wiv single coils in them. They all sound different and different pickups jus voice the sound differently. It doesnt jus give it a fuller sound, its kills alot of hum, rings notes out clearer and picks up harmonics better.. in my opinion.

  • @pat353 I get what you are saying as well. I just think that if you are looking to get a humbucker sound its better to go les paul or sg, and for single coil a strat or tele. but when you startmixing them you can get some cool combinations. for example a '52 hot rod tele with a humbucker at the neck is awesome and players like andy summers (my favorite guitar player) use guitars like that and get an awesome sound. I just don't think getting a humbucker at the bridge for a tele is the best idea.

  • @nickmyers1213 dude i play a tele and a gibson sg but the tele suits my style of playing much better, i get rsi from the gibson, yet i need a hb sound as well for my music. therefore it makes practical sense, i feels, however i do believe you can split the coils to get the single coil tone as well

  • @MrSkeff I get what you are saying. But if you are going for a humbucker type sound, you should buy a humbucker guitar, which is why I recommend having both if you want/need both sounds. teles are known for that trebley warm single-coil sound, and if you are going to make the sacrifice to put in a humbucker thats up to you, but i wouldn't because they are known for that sound. but then again it's all preference.

  • @nickmyers1213 that is true and i agree with you, thats why i have both but i just feel that for practical reasons its handy to haev the split coil in the tele to save you changing guitars

  • @nickmyers1213 The beauty of teles is that they can play all styles of music, from classic rock and country to all styles of modern music. That's why there's such a strong aftermarket parts business for teles as well. Where would we be without artists getting creative trying to create and find a new sound... still listening to chamber music or fiddles... not that there's anything wrong with that, right.

  • @itsonlyrcknroll yeah any guitar can play any kind of music, which creates a player's "sound." and there is definitely a creative aspect to it like you mentioned. but for styles of music; let's say heavy metal, a guitar with humbuckers will usually be a better option, not saying you can't use a tele for it, but logically speaking, it might be a better option. what i'm saying is just my opinion.

  • I don't think you know what you're talking about nick...Telecasters can be used for rock, metal...anything really as long as the individual is happy with it. Maybe a Gibson Les Paul doesn't fit this dude well therefore he went with a Tele...have you considered that possibly he likes the looks of a Tele or he wanted a maple fretboard. There could be many reasons. Be a bit more open minded rather then a close minded, conservative douche. PEACE! :)

  • @ekserchina i'm not being close minded by stating my opinion dude. i'm all for experimenting with tone and sound. any guitar can be used for anything, i'm just saying that i love the sound of teles with single coils and wouldn't want to change that but that's just my opinion. let me say that again, IT'S MY OPINION. so i'm not being a "close minded, conservative douche." any guitar can be used for anything but certain guitars fit certain styles better than others. think about what i'm saying dude

  • @nickmyers1213 Who cares what sound it was meant to produce?

What matters is what sound it can produce isn´t it?

  • @nickmyers1213 Just to say, personally I love the look of the tele and sound of a gibson. As far I know there is no gibson tele, so hey why not throw in a sweet lil 59 or hot rails?

  • @nickmyers1213 - do it if you want a tele that rocks...

  • what kind of tele you have? mexican or american? and does it stay in tune decently well?

  • @AquaticCheese American and its Amazing

  • I have a Lil '59 in my G&L Classic Bluesboy semi-hollow guitar and I'm really not thrilled with the clean sound (altough it blends perfectly with the humbucker in the neck of my G&L), but overdriven, the Lil '59 is beautiful. It's really smooth, with a good bite. I don't see how you can beat it for classic rock on a Tele.

  • STOP TALKING. jeez christ, play the fuckin guitar

  • you changed the tone pot? that might help your clean tone in the bridge maybe a 500k(teles have a 250k standard). not sure if you have changed the pot or not.

    sounds good crunchy like

  • i was planning on putting the push pull in but i never did. it was still 250 tho:(

  • what exactly does it do? ive heard that from heaps of people, but i dont really know how it works?

  • a push pull will allow single coil or parallel/series wiring also increasing the tone pot to 500k will allow the humbucker tones to be more full, gibson always use 500k (tone pots)with their humbuckers and fender always use 250k

  • Good review Angus. Thought it might be a tad bright, just from the size of both coils (being as small as they are). I've got an SD 5-2 in mine, SM3 mini-hum in neck. I like the 5-2. It's a really even sound that isn't brash. Decent lows and toned down highs, lots of mids. For that "tele" sound and more, great single coil. The mini-hummer is the best sounding I've ever heard (I highly reccomend it to tele players.) Great review angus,, THANKS

  • your crotch channel? xD

  • I also switch over to the neck pickup for cleans on my telecaster. A tele neck pickup gets the cleanest of all cleans! Haha.

  • Thats exactly what i do man! i agree totally! unreal cleans, and i am satisfied with the distortion on the lil 59

  • I put a lil '59 in one of my tele's too. I wish I had a review of it before hand. I wouldnt have done it! The Duncan "quarter pounder" is much better. Just got one.

You are a bright, well spoken kid, and you will go far.

  • Thank you very much man! remember to rate and subscribe.. new videos coming soon, currently have a virus on my PC!:S

  • Lool... The first 4 chords are the same of the music Omission of John Frusciante! :D

  • your neck pick up is noiseless?

  • I dont think so, its just the stock Neck PU

  • could you please die in a fire or something? the kid made a really helpful video so shove off already.

  • are you playing straight to the amp? after switching to line 6 i ditched ALL my pedals except for the zakk wah (true bypass mod)

  • Yes i am, only for the purpose of this video

  • SWEET. i ditched all my boss pedals because my line 6 spider IV amp does what they do better without compromising my tone.

  • Yea boss pedals are not true bypass. so they may effects your tone in a negative way/.

  • But what about the balance between the two? And specifically what is the middle positions like now?

  • @wungabunga both pickups

  • get a bit ov statusquo in yea that car sound good

  • maybe the bad cleans are from the amp maybe if you get a good tube amp it'll sound better

  • thats unreal thanks man

  • hey just wondering if u like the band muse or radiohead and if you do would say theyre good pickups for them songs from the bands

  • yes i do, and theses= pickups can pretty much get any tone, depending on your amps and pedals.

  • sound is dependant on amp and fx

  • You haven't been playing long have you? lol not bashing or anything, but everything depends on how the guitar sounds, from the amp and effects, to the type of wood the guitar is made of to the type of wood the fretboard is made of.

  • Obviously dude . at this time of the video i played for about 5 years. Now i play for 6. This guitar has an ash body and maple neck, very high grade woods, i purchased this pickup because i disliked the stock single coil tele P.U. It was thin and to high end. and i am quite knowledgeable in the gear world and i am fully aware that effects and amps and even cables for that matter can effect your tone. Please dont judge my talent on old videos

    Thanks

    Dan

  • I actually wasn't talking to you, I was referring to the guy asking why you changed your pickups because the tone comes from pedals and amps, I could have swore I hit the reply button but I guess either youtube screwed up or I did. I meant to offense to you whatsoever and I think the video was a pretty good demo myself. Sorry for the mix up.

  • Alright man I apologize

  • Don't sweat it =]

  • ive been playing for a fairly long time.. sound is dependent on amp and fx MOSTLY and im aware wood is too but i doubt YOU could tell the different between an ash tele and an alder one. so be quiet. thank you.

  • Let it be! I love that song

  • hahaha, slash, i enjoy the playing, love the sound, but we cant see you're face. just the curly brown hair.

  • haha yea well, in other videos you can, unfortunatly my music room isnt that huge, so i cant get the camera far enough back that you can see my guitar(which is most important) and my face.,

  • i think we've found the fourth jonas brother!

  • Was that a complement or a slash? haha

  • Thanks for the vid, i own an epi les paul and i threw in some seymours the sound completely blew me away, i also own a tele and was lookin around for what would be best, you convinced me =]

  • canadian ? :D

  • Yuup

  • thanks so much u conviced me to put this in my tele!

  • Nice review, I use that pickup too in my Telecaster and I'm very satisfied with it.

  • cool. i would never take out the bridge pickup though. thats the whole reason i have a tele. for the twang. haha good job man.

  • Well I wanted the Twang AND GOOD DISTORTION! i like the switch.

  • How is your PU wired? does it have a four conductor cable or a vintage style one?

  • i really like the look of tele's but i really dont mind twangy but i like hard rock sound more

  • yeah, i got other guitars for the heavier sounds. I'm just sorta traditional when it comes to a guitar and the music commonly played on it. i have nothing against guys like you who go after looks, and have a complete different tone than what it looks like, more power to ya man. thats just not my cup of tea.

  • Yea man, Once i have enough money to have different guitars for every tone im looking for, then i may switch the original back into my tele.

    Thanks

  • put a tutorial on how to change pickups

  • well its pretty simple and now really nessisary to have a video, you basically just have to unsolder the original pickups , look at the diagram and solder the new pickups in where it says.

If mutiple people find it confusing i might be able to post one

  • plz i dont even know hor to unsolder and i dont want to fuck new pickups up

  • ok what guitar do you have and what pickup

  • a mexican tele and im gonna install seymour duncan tele pickups p.s. meant to say how

  • well if you have no soldering experience, and you dont know how to install pickups, which consists of reading the diagram and soldering, send it to your local shop, because im not taking my guitar apart to teach soldering. Search other youtube videos.

  • As do i!

  • should have gotten a stacked humbucker.

  • Why

  • because from my experience the stacked Seymour Duncan tele pickups sound way better than the little '50 when clean or dirty. but to each his own. nice one word post btw.

  • Of course it was a one word post? lol what else would i have said?

  • Good work kid, keep at it

  • Series vs Parallel is a slight wiring modification very easy to do. You can use a "Mini" Switch or a 5 way "Mega" Switch. Seymour Duncan's website has the wiring schematics.

  • I just uploaded a video of the Little 59 in Series vs Parallel. Check it out.

  • I think the parallel sound is way better than the series sound. The series is way too warm for my tastes. The high frequencies are lost, but you get most of them back in parallel and still have a humbucker with no noise and increased output. Think of a medium output humbucker with "snap"

  • IM not following you with what you mean by parallel, im not familiar with that

is it a type or wireing? or what?

  • I have a Little 59 in my tele. You MUST use a mini switch. The little 59 sounds really good in Parallel mode. The normal "series" wiring is similar to a Les Paul sound, very warm. Where as in parallel it has a good amount of snap, which I think is great for blues and rock. Try it. You are not getting the full use of the pickup without the mini switch.

  • How about a demo of that? I was wondering what this pup in parallel would sound like...

  • Comment removed

  • Are you reffering to a Push/Pull pot?

If not, im not 100% following you.

  • paralell sounds OK. Series wiring is good, and I like cut coil too, it has a lot of bell tone.

  • a tele can do what you want it to

  • Agreed man.

    Thanks For watching

  • Thanks for the very informative demo.

I am about to place a Little 59 in my Tele, with a Gibson 490R in the neck, and I think I have made the right choice!

    Keep the vids coming!

  • Why did you get a Tele if you don't like the bridge pickup? The Tele is for country music if you like metal you should have gotten a Gibson.

  • Dont tell me what i should have gotten. You are taking my video the wrong way. I like the bridge pickup, but i wanted something a little more gainy, with keeping the tele tone. and i dont play metal with this guitar. Im saying if you want to, put hot rails in it. I put the little 59 in to get the twang and beautiful highs of a tele and a great rock distortion.

and great companies like Seymour Duncan open up our options. YOUR ALLOWED TO SWITCH PICKUPS.

  • and i am MORE THAN HAPPY with my tele.

  • Country music is silly. Rock has taken over the TELECASTER.

  • thats true brother!

  • BUT chiken pickin is always fun to do when no ones looking :P

  • @notyourhomeboy lol sometimes i wish i had learned chicken pickin, but then i think... i would litterally never use it lol

  • is this the tele 59 pickup or the strat?

  • tele

  • the boy have a Beuty and Good tele, but dont have good hands

so beutyful song of SD i'll buy one minihumbucker

  • I dont understand one word you just typed...

  • Just a comment about using a '59 for metal: a couple of names off the top of my head, George Lynch (Dokken) and Akira Takasaki (Loudness); both heavy metal gods of tone. George's setup often got pretty complicated at times and he ended up modding his '59. Akira's setup is pretty straightforward: bright wood on big Marshall tone. I'm excited to hear what you'll do with that '59 in your Tele.

  • Oh Yea man, ive done a bunch of research about modding them for metal. But, i like my tone the way it is,

Ill let the Subscribers know in the near future about any updates or Modifications to my gear!

    Thanks!

  • Hey i was wondering about the balance between the pickups...do you notice a big volume change when switching? if so, is it managable?

  • It is manageable, definatly, its not toooooo dramatic. its the normal volume drop when you go from 2 coils to one.

  • definetly a cool pickup but i switched mine out because i missed the buzzy twangy stock pu

  • oh man, thanks for the video!!!!.ive been reading like crazy about pickups and this was exactly one of my options...the thing with the tele's that bothers me is the twangy sound for solo's...chrods sound great i think. could you play like solo with the little 59 and in then middle position and then with the tele pickup??? haha i know its a lot to ask but if i buy a tele ill change the pickups right away and i dont want to hace to try 6 pickups before finding the sound i want. :D THANKS AGAIN!

  • hah yea man ill do my best. most videos dont do it justice. but this video is the sound of it, what you hear hereis what it sounds like. i will be producing more videos, and some more solos with my tele!

telecaster sound is all in the way you play it. i know people in bands that play the stock single cloil tele bredge p.u with a mesa rectifier and it sounds great. its not always twangy, it can be, but it doesnt have to be. it depends alot on your amp and effects

  • You're guitar is beautiful :O

  • Nice review...just wondering..I want to get that chili peppers sound and right now I have an Ibanez SA120 but want to change both pickups...what do you recommend? I was initially going to go Bridge: SD JB and Neck: SD '59 but now I don't know...??

  • Well man, its going to be tough. John tone comes from high strat, and his marshalls. you have a humbucking guitar. First off, you cant put the little 59 in your neck, you have a humbucking slot carved out as for the JB, thatll do. if you want my idea, i would put a push pull volume pot. so you can split the humbuckers. then you can use one coil on the humbucker, and itll give you a more stratty sound when your on the neck pick up. id find a realllly nice sounding set of humbuckers, vintagey

  • through the push pull and itll be great i think, you wont get his exact tone, but itll be close. sorry i cant hlp you more with pickup names, i dont know many vintage humbuckers, more metal buckers, research research and more research my friend

  • Nice video

  • Thanks dude

  • A boot :P

  • Let It Be!

  • cutie

  • love
