@jnyerere: You have great wisdom for your age and i trust and hope your parents are very proud of you. I hope wherever you go the others will follow your wisdom and example.
I have 2 teenage nephews living with me and they know that BET is not allowed on in my house and i really will go off if they ever sneak it on. Everybody who visits my house knows that these stupid reality shows like 'For The Love Of Ray J" and "Braxton Family" are not allowed on my tv. Let your daughters watch the Braxtons and they are gonna grow up with all the wrong values...especially the one called Tamar. These stupid shows are destroying our youth and making them dumb as rocks.
@DaOrigTruthSeeker I thank you for watching and sharing your great comments. You are to be applauded for taking a stand against what B.E.T. does to our youth on so many levels. B.E.T. is TRULY a gutter network and anybody that embraces it needs to wake up ASAP.
I stopped watching BET a long time ago and now TVOne is my choice. BET is for people of the lowest intelligence. BET is designed to dummy down our people and teach our children how to be professional idiots. When BET took Bev Smith "OUR VOICES" and Ed Gordon off the air i knew it was gonna go down to the gutter. They never have anything real on it. People who support this crap need not complain. Viacom wanted BET just for the purpose of feeding our youth stupidity around the clock.
@DaOrigTruthSeeker I am 21 years old and I keep telling my peers out here that TVONE is a good example of a channel that is truly for the entertainment of black people. People don't have to settle for BET. And if you want music, there's CENTRIC which is also a great channel. BET needs to be banned now because as you can see my peers are out sagging jeans and spending half their paycheck on clothes and shoes because of the garbage they see on BET.
@MultiGanton Oh really ? At any rate, thanks for watching and posting your comments. I look forward to seeing what's uploaded on your channel. Take care
I had hope for BET until it turned into the "gangsta" network. I was hoping for more history and more different types of music like you discussed. I remember back in High School when they taught us Black history, I was received the highest grade in the class. What struck me though about the lectures and tests was not only did the white students not care, but most of the black students did not care and ended up failing that part of the class.
@gadfly450004 THanks for watching. I'm sorry to know that many in your class didn't pass the test(s). That's probably the norm with regards to many inner city classes today, where most students just don't care....about anything positive.
I W I L L S A Y T H I S: It looks as if they are trying to make SOME changes (suprisingly). I respect them for the documentaries like My Mic Sounds Nice and Hurricane Katrina's Aftermath. Still, not impressed. Just those two things and that's it. Monique's Show is alright, only because of HALF of the guest she brings. I don't turn to the channel, I just catch on Youtube. Other than that, THEY STILL HAVE MILES UPON MILES to go to redeem themselves as a channel, especially after that MJ tribute
@free140 Thanks for watching and sharing your opinion about the channel, and I agree. they have MILES to go before TRUE redemtion takes place. Right now, it's a modern day minstrel show.
NEVER watch it.... life is too short and there is too much to learn and life. I even encourage EVERYBODY NOT TO WATCH THE GOSPEL RELATED PROGRAMS... BET IS ONLY ABOUT THE MONEY. Hope that helps.
@ThaWiseJester THANK YOU for understanding the demise of what used to be a great channel. Unfortunately, people continue to support the crap, and many are willing to argue in defense of B.E.T.....until they find out the truth about it's ownership, etc.
Tell it like it is. I love a black man who has the integrity to speak the truth knowing that others will be quick to criticize him. Keep up the good videos and nice music.
@chasca23 Thanks for watching and posting your comments. The truth is the truth with regards to BET. They need to pull the plug on that sorry channel.
they should have kept it 100% videos i really dont care about the content or whos in it as long as they kept it true like it once was which bring me to the last thing
programming-man i hate to say this but the more i see it the more VH1 is MORe BLACKER than BET i say this because they have mORE black videos on they honor hip hop on a award show and they have those coon reality shows i mean you have to love it or hate it but they are doing better(VH1)exposing blacks
@uzipolo Well, I agree to an extent, but the Black community needs much more than music videos, and BET served everyone's needs back in the day. There comes a time when the music has to be turned off. I also agree that VH-1 is more in touch with our community (somewhat) than BET. As long as brainwashed people support BET, it's gonna continue doing it's dirt.
because i wanted to be heard and the new CEO they got isno better but anyway video show aws something that black adults can nsettle down and unwined after a long hard day or just sopme form of entertainemt before you go out it had great interviews and the videos had class and no cussing why would you want to cancel that NOW all they show is re runs of Lockdown and menance of society which they show 6 times a month and pityful old re run sitcoms shame on you BET
which means all they did when they cancled it was rip those young people off and not letting them put food on the table i looked at 2 hours of BET UNCUT last night NEVER EVER EVER did they show ass or tits on the show..NEVER so i dont see what the big fuss was about i dont see the difference between that and Bad Girls Club or Jersey Shore
Video Soul_ na very sad day happend when they let this go and BET should be ashamed of themselves i PERSONALLY wrote/emailed BET about this
i look/turn on the E!,Vh1.Mtv and they are showing MORE about MJ death in 30 minutes than BET did ALL day and ALL WEEK we are not going to include how poorly they handled the teddy pendergrass death man that is soo sad but the award show nshould have been cancled hands down
BET:Uncut-this was stupid to cancel this..all these rap artist wanted to do was be heard and it wasnt like BET was losing anything the artist that showed the videos PAID BET TO GET PLAYED
@uzipolo Right on. Viacom's OTHER networks did a much better job covering MJ's passing. I knew that BET would diss Teddy and relegate him to a mere footnote of coverage. Thanks for reminding us about 'BET Uncut'...another show with substance that was taken down. Like I said, BET should REALLY be called N.E.T.!!!!
@3:34..replaced with comic view and all these coon shows...lol lol lol i have a different take on BET in 4 parts..
Micheal Jackson- when he died it took BEt 17 hours to acknoledge his death...17 hours..are you kidding me? then you had to wait till SATURDAY for them to do that stupid 2-3 part segment that they ran 2 SATURDAYS in a row which was stupid becase the majority of the people they interviewd didnt know what the hell they were talking about anyway
@uzipolo THANKS for watching and bringing up BET's shameful coverage of MJ's passing...DAMN..17 hours ? Viacom just loves it's Nigger Channel and keeping it in a 'Dumbed Down' state, from the top to the bottom.
You know as I was listening to you I had an epiphany.... the state of Urban Culture is a mind set of "GANG MEMBERS STATUS".....the entire young Black America populous feel the have to REP the HOOD and that's gang mentality that has permeated our culture and WE HAVE ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN!! I AGREE with you that B.E.T. has gone ROGUE and does not represent OUR community in its authentic TRUTH! Viacom has done what has been done for years, TAKEN our need to wanting to be HEARD and SEEN and______
@HeavyDee "the entire young Black America populous feel the have to REP the HOOD" YES, and they look so STUPID fighting, arguing and eventually killing each other for property they don't even own. We HAD a chance, and were headed in the right direction, before Johnson sold his soul to the devil (Viacom). Yes, he had a right to get paid, but damn, some things are worth more than gold. He sold out and now BET is nothing but Viacom's 'Nigger Channel'.
GAH, WELL SAID!!! These kids are so weak minded and will follow anything. The music played today is all mindless and negative, and there are actually still good artist out there with clever and interesting content, but freaking Gucci Mane, and Waka Flaka are promoted hardcore, and now everywhere where I go I hear this crap, I can't escape it! BUNCH OF FOLLOWERS, everyone has on these STUPID skinny jeans, and got the mohawks and dreads, are people really this easily influenced?? It's disturbing.
@zachdahater Thanks for watching and voicing your displeasure over the sad state of affairs in music & culture. For the most part, these kids are mindless zombies who are lost in the sauce of negativity.
@zachdahater There is nothing wrong with dreadlocks or locks as they now call them because they are nothing to dread. I was with you until you started criticizing natural hairstyles.
@imhotep1 You can't not agree with me because of dreads, haha! I actually have no problem with dreadlocks though, but I do hate these frohawks. I was just using these hairstyles as examples of how people will follow every fad they see on tv like skinny jeans, baggy jeans, frohawks, sun glasses inside, etc. I don't label people at all, if you have dreads or frohawks, I won't have any prejudices. Nothing wrong with hairstyles, but just an example of how strong this culture's influence is.
Again, it's a sign of the times. Even Jacqie Reid who was a respected BET News Anchor five years ago is now on "Pepa"'s VH1 Reality Show "Let's Talk About Pep" seeking Male Companionship and sharing with the world that she's never had an Orgasm!
@doubleolove , yeah I was telling Sean about Jackie being on that degrading show yesterday. I was shocked and hurt when I saw her on there. I was like, "why is she even hanging with Pepa?" I used to have a huge crush on her and Ananda Lewis back in the day so to see her allowing herself to be degraded like that was disappointing.
This is so true. All of the young brothers try to convince me that BET is positive now! I was trying to let these 90s born boys that BET had more of a variety in videos, and they sure as heck didn't have air heads like that female host on 106 and park....I miss Big Lez and Rachel....
@Bonjarreau "You hate them the same as me." I hate who ?? Please don't try to align my views with whatever is in your heart. As most of my viewers already know, I am frustrated & disappointed with the choices that youth are making, and the lifestyles they trying to emulate. You are here with another agenda. Be careful
I don't have an agenda. It' s just that it's refreshing to meet someone such as yourself who has the same feelings that I do. It just sounds awful coming from me. That's all. I don't hate anyone. Don't be mad at me. I love all of you opinions on these issues.
It's not racist either. The young black men don't know positivity like the young white men. You really have it on the ball but don't call me racist because I should be able to say it too.
@Bonjarreau You are here for 'something else', but let me make one thing CLEAR. My statements weren't made to connect with any racism...percieved or otherwise! "The young black men don't know positivity like the young white men." Are you smoking 'meth' while posting comments or what ? Look, do yourself a favor and unsub. Peace
Making this video didn't make me feel GOOD. It was painful and I was at a loss for words at certain points. It's such a sad situation, and all I can do is share the glorious past that BET was once a part of. DAMN
I really appreciated your views and the history of what BET used to be. I understand better how you can be disappointed about what it is now. However, I have discovered this channel only recently (african) and I am afraid the problem is much deeper. Lack of news and profound programs is a problem common to most networks, and that is the response to a society that is less interested in general in those matters. There is not enough demand for those type of programs anymore. How to raise awareness?
Thanks for watching. "There is not enough demand for those type of programs anymore. How to raise awareness?" On the contrary, there IS a demand for quality programing, but Viacom is only interested in cashing in on the negativity that's embraced by weak minded 'children'. Mature adults are the majority, but in the grand scheme of things are ignored. There IS awareness, but when mature people advise or preach to the youth, they get criticised for trying to do the right thing.
When Bill Cosby or Barack Obama told Black Men to pull their pants up and become better Fathers, they were called 'Uncle Toms', etc. There's a segment of society that WANT'S to embrace the dumbed down mentality, and America's major media outlets are doing everything possible to keep it that way. We had a chance, BUT it went up in smoke when Johnson sold his soul to the Devil (Viacom). This is what you have today....Nigger Entertainment Television...what a waste!
I had such hopes for BET-J but they too went by the wayside as has Centric, showing the same shows constantly. TV-ONE's only saving Grace is the "Unsung" series.
Hopes that have gone up in smoke...thanks to Robert Johnson's decision 10 years ago. Viacom will NEVER sell BET...it's paid off in more ways than the KKK could imagine. Keeping the "Niggas" dumber than ever is simply PRICELESS!!!
Sean I couldn't agree with you more, I touched upon this briefly with you in another post. I remember years ago when BET had quality programming, truthfully it hasn't been the same since Donnie Simpson left 15 years ago. A Friend has dubbed them the "Bozo Entertainment Network". The crap they show today reflects the times, viewership and money. Sad!
Yeah back in the day there was substance to BET ..but slowly it deteriorated ...haven't watch it in years .........oh well ...............thanks for the discussion!....stay blessed !
THANKS for watching and listing some of BET's past shows, that didn't depend on negative stereotypes. Viacom will NEVER sell BET at ANY cost. And people with deep pockets, like Oprah, know this.
I think rap as a whole has gone down hill. It used to be about the message. Now it's about objectifying women and getting the to dress ans act like whores. This goes hand in hand with BET going down hill.
I stopped listening to rap once Jay Z became mega popular in the early 2000's.
Tupac and Biggie were the last great artists in my opinion.
As a white person with mostly black friends I never understood why there needed to be a black only channel. Call me ignorant or stupid, but I enjoy music, television and food from all cultures and ways of life. An all white, Chinese or whatever race of people channel seems silly to me.
Also, there was a time rap had a message. Now it's just garbage, telling young men to f everything in site and telling young women to act like whores and have sex with everyone.
I'm having the same problem friend. I thought it was Firefox so I switched to Google Chrome and got the same problem. I then switched to my Mac and got back on Firefox and had no problems. I suspect Youtube is playing coding games with Microsoft. Either that or they're doing some useless upgrade to the network that we won't like again. Lol.
Thanks again. When BET was founded back in 1979 or 1980, it SUPPOSED to be an outlet for talent that didn't have a chance to be showcased on MTV or major networks, which basically catered to White viewers. BET's purpose has since become perverted and twisted to be a showcase for mainly sheer negativity. This does not represent the entire Black community.
@seand67 I remember when BET was so small and dinky back in 83 when my mom got cable. It aired only at night between 7pm -12am and Video Soul was a little video show hosted by a well known Chicago DJ named LaDonna Tittle and they were re-runs. It was like a TV station that broadcasted from somebody's basement. It eventually came up but when it started going down, just before it was soul, Tom Joyner was making a big stink about how Bob Johnson was treating the community. I hardly watch it now.
I never agreed with the name of the channel myself. Black Entertainment Television was too restrictive. It should entertain everybody but make sure blacks were depicted accurately and fairly. That's all we ask of a black owned network. I don't agree with Black History Month either. Accurate history all year should be the norm. Rap has been watered down to nothing more than a fabricated soap opera. No real fan would even download a rap song these days. Nothing but garbage anymore.
You make sense Brotherman. The idea and concept of accuracy is something WE can only hope to see in our lifetime. The REAL powers that be are behind the scenes and have a hidden agenda that's being played out via tools like BET and the ignorance it showcases on the regular.
Right. Viacom and all other networks are owned by members of the Builderberg Group. One look at their agenda and the big picture on this issue becomes all too clear. Ignorance is a mighty tool for them indeed.
@ SEAN, I concur I used 2 watch Teen Summit back in the the day & other decent programs. Today BET doesn't even promote black music like it used to, they only dedicate maybe two hours 2 the music and only certain artists make the cut....GARBAGE. By the way I am here in Atlanta, haven't spoken with TMOT yet but hopefully we'll meet. Thanx 4 your support, you are family. RespectU
Thanks and I can't wait to see you & Tmotofga chopping it up in front of the camera. Reminds me of the time that Twalk2008 & I got together last year. Peace
Sean, Man I couldn't agree with you more and it's funny because I'm Still young but B.E.T. is not the only Channle that went down hill but TV in general has became trash. To tie this with sports(because you know thats my subject) B.E.T. use to own the rights to the HBCU Football game and since they gave up them rights ESPN,and CBS, VS has made money off the Bayou Classic,Florida Classic,Atlanta Classic and The MEAC Vs. SWAC game. Smh I miss the 90's when I was a Kid.
Thanks for stopping by and for mentioning BET & sports. Great points indeed about the various 'classic' football games. Now it's all gone for the sake of promoting modern day jiggaboos. Damn.
Sean, I can't even remember the last time I really sat down & watched BET for a long period of time!!! Centric is a better alternative for me, but even that has flaws by showing those stupid reality shows like "Run's House" and stuff. BET is S**T, shoot, even "Bobby Jones Gospel" lost it's anointing!!! Sundays on BET was great for people who either didn't go to church, or couldn't go. Those were the days. And whatever happened to BET News??? SMH Great commentary Sean!!!
B.E.T. News was the first thing to go brother. No way they were going to continue giving us easy access to accurate news happening in ALL of our communities. Jackie Reid was on point being both professional and classy. Now she is on a ghetto fabulous show with Pep from Salt and Pepa where they are constantly shown as man hunting sex craved and trashy. What a disgrace for her. I'm sure that was the intent from the producers of the show. Makes me mad.
Oh yeah, I did notice she was on their, but since shows like that don't appeal to me, I wouldn't have known she was acting like that!!! A damn dirty shame indeed, I'll stick with Centric, with the side eye of course!!! LOL
It's a REASON why Viacom isn't interested in promoting any POSITIVE Black images on TV. They make so much money from any & everything ignorant. So should we blame Whites & others for looking at us strange and generalizing Blacks ? The images on BET are a HUGE part of what they base stereotypes from. Lord, let our people WAKE THE FUNK UP!
Brother, it's only NOW that we realize what we had back in the day on BET. Robert Johnson could care less about how his selling of the network would do nothing but set us back into the age of coonery. Karma is a b*tch and this is why all of Johnson's ventures after selling BET to Viacom have FAILED.
Yeah man. I remember when Robert Johnson first announced that he was in talks with Viacom over the selling of B.E.T. Bill Cosby was one of the people trying to talk him out of it but the almighty dollar won out once again. He had full warning that Viacom would coonify the network but chose to take the billion dollar deal anyway. Chump change for Viacom. Now Karma is spanking that a** and he deserves it.
Bruh, that was indeed chump change for Viacom, and look at the return for their investment. The price for keeping Black youth dumbed down & ignorant is simply PRICELESS in their eyes. It's too bad our people won't wake up, and look past BET puppets like Debra Lee, and stop settling for LESS. Wouldn't it be funny if the Charlotte Bobcats become a winner after Johnson sells the team to Michael Jordan. I want MJ to make Johnson look like the fool he is!
Too bad indeed brother. There seems to be no end in sight for our peoples unconsciousness. Look at the move Precious. One of the most degrading works depicting our black women and so many of us stand up and praise it like the second coming. Monique doesn't even realize that she is being used as puppet to lead more black folks into negative stereotypes with that movie and her show. At least I hope she doesn't realize it. Our people need to wake up fast!
I'm happy to tell you that I haven't seen Precious or become all consumed with it's hype, unlike SO MANY OTHERS. Those who 'drank the kool aid' got furious when Howard Stern broke it down for what it was, a mess. And now the movie is supposed to be legit since Monique won an Oscar ? Blah Blah. BET should feature 'Precious'...it would fit so well with that channel's other programs. Wouldn't suprise me if they tried to develop a 'Precious' TV serious...whew..;~(
I drank the kool aid my brother, then spit it out quickly. I wanted to give it a chance but I soon realized my worst fears. Then like you said, the Oscar buzz started and got everybody punch drunk. Now you got black folks defending this mockery as if their lives depended on it. What Stern was trying to say was true and this young lady will realize this all too soon. She will either get no work or offers for KFC and McDonald's commercials. He was wrong for degrading her looks only.
True enough, Stern didn't have to 'go there' about her looks. Shoot, I heard Black people say a lot worse, and Jamie Foxx even said she was the 'Notorious Precious'...whew. And that's another thing, nobody is even trying to use this young lady's real name...she is ETERNALLY 'Precious'. Stereotyped 4 LIFE!!
Of course black folks say worse about her among themselves but they don't like it when someone of another race says it. It's like when you pick on your sister or brother. As long as you do it, it's all good but let someone outside your family do it and it's on! Lol. I myself didn't like the fact that Stern said she was an enormous "Black" woman. Why say Black at all? There are plenty of enormous white actors in the industry too. It just rubbed me wrong.
I was in the barbershop just the other day when a heated discussion started over the movie Precious. Once all the issues were laid out including the degrading role Halley Berry played in Monster's Ball along with the one played by Terrence Howard in Hustle and Flow to get Oscar attention, everyone finally saw the light and realized that Precious was a degrading piece of work not worthy of any trophies other than Coonery Of The Year.
Yessir, Halle won an Oscar for lines in 'Monstar's Ball' like..."So do you realllly like chocolate ice cream ???" before Billy Bob Thornton took her cakes on the floor. Just gutter...and then after winning the Oscar, she cries on stage ranting about those who paved the way....Halle OD'd on the kool aid...FOR REAL
Yeah man, Halley basically did porn and all of a sudden after all of her previous deserving work, got the Oscar. Terrence plays the role of a simple street hustler and he get's one. Then to further rub it in our faces, they gave 3 6 Mafia a damn Grammy for that garbage they did for the movie. We haven't seen those clowns since. Bet they never thought they would be without work after a Grammy. They all OD'd on the kool aid brother. The purple drank. Lol.
Lol, yeah Sean made that statement yesterday and it cracked me up too. It is the perfect way to describe how people today are accepting ANYTHING as entertainment.
Oh wow! I am well aware of the different hand signs puppet celebs use but was totally unaware that Monique was flashing them too. I don't watch her show very much so I can see how I missed it.
BET Is not what it used to be. Whatever happened to informative programs such as OUR VOICES, LEAD STORY and even BET News? And as much love as I have for Mo'Nique, George Lopez has better guests. It's a drag that they're both on at 11/10 P.M. Of all things, why did BET put a train wreck like Wendy Williams on @ 12/11P.M.? At least TV ONE and CENTRIC are being on point.
@IG2HI Wendy Williams is too negative and degrading to me. I did recall a tender moment when Whoopie Goldberg appeared on the show who Wendy had mocked meanly and Williams was humbled to the point of tears.
@imhotep1 When a person is in the wrong, it will come back upon them. As I said before, Wendy Williams is a train wreck, but she too has a purpose. I would just take her at face value: believe half of what you see, and none of what she says. Having known Whoopi publically, she probably took Wendy with a grain of salt and went on about her business. Same in her defense of Mel Gibson.
Sean, you're right. You're NOT THE ONLY ONE who feels this way about B.E.T.
I too agree that BET is BLACK EXPLOITATION TELEVISION. I don't even watch it because I just can't take the garbage that is on there. It's now just a mockery of Black folks. That's why the owners of BET didn't let Bill Cosby buy it because he would have shaped the channel with more substance & POSITIVE images of Black folks.
Thanks, I appreciate your comments. It's a shame that we have a bunch of dumbed down zombies that remain loyal to BET. Viacom has succeeded in pimping Black America.
David K Far-El wrote a book about the shit that goes on at BET.... He also happens to be one of my friends on Facebook.... He was a producer for Rap City, & he also produced numerous other programs such as Dave Chappele show.... Check him, & his book out

they should have kept it 100% videos i really dont care about the content or whos in it as long as they kept it true like it once was which bring me to the last thing
programming-man i hate to say this but the more i see it the more VH1 is MORe BLACKER than BET i say this because they have mORE black videos on they honor hip hop on a award show and they have those coon reality shows i mean you have to love it or hate it but they are doing better(VH1)exposing blacks
uzipolo 1 year ago 2

Video Soul_ na very sad day happend when they let this go and BET should be ashamed of themselves i PERSONALLY wrote/emailed BET about this

i look/turn on the E!,Vh1.Mtv and they are showing MORE about MJ death in 30 minutes than BET did ALL day and ALL WEEK we are not going to include how poorly they handled the teddy pendergrass death man that is soo sad but the award show nshould have been cancled hands down
BET:Uncut-this was stupid to cancel this..all these rap artist wanted to do was be heard and it wasnt like BET was losing anything the artist that showed the videos PAID BET TO GET PLAYED
uzipolo 1 year ago
@uzipolo Right on. Viacom's OTHER networks did a much better job covering MJ's passing. I knew that BET would diss Teddy and relegate him to a mere footnote of coverage. Thanks for reminding us about 'BET Uncut'...another show with substance that was taken down. Like I said, BET should REALLY be called N.E.T.!!!!
seand67 1 year ago
@3:34..replaced with comic view and all these coon shows...lol lol lol i have a different take on BET in 4 parts..
Micheal Jackson- when he died it took BEt 17 hours to acknoledge his death...17 hours..are you kidding me? then you had to wait till SATURDAY for them to do that stupid 2-3 part segment that they ran 2 SATURDAYS in a row which was stupid becase the majority of the people they interviewd didnt know what the hell they were talking about anyway
uzipolo 1 year ago 2

Viacom has done what has been done for years, TAKEN our need to wanting to be HEARD and SEEN and______
HeavyDee 1 year ago 3
@HeavyDee "the entire young Black America populous feel the have to REP the HOOD" YES, and they look so STUPID fighting, arguing and eventually killing each other for property they don't even own. We HAD a chance, and were headed in the right direction, before Johnson sold his soul to the devil (Viacom). Yes, he had a right to get paid, but damn, some things are worth more than gold. He sold out and now BET is nothing but Viacom's 'Nigger Channel'.

@zachdahater There is nothing wrong with dreadlocks or locks as they now call them because they are nothing to dread. I was with you until you started criticizing natural hairstyles.
imhotep1 1 year ago
@imhotep1 You can't not agree with me because of dreads, haha! I actually have no problem with dreadlocks though, but I do hate these frohawks. I was just using these hairstyles as examples of how people will follow every fad they see on tv like skinny jeans, baggy jeans, frohawks, sun glasses inside, etc. I don't label people at all, if you have dreads or frohawks, I won't have any prejudices. Nothing wrong with hairstyles, but just an example of how strong this culture's influence is.

seand67 1 year ago
I really appreciated your views and the history of what BET used to be. I understand better how you can be disappointed about what it is now. However, I have discovered this channel only recently (african) and I am afraid the problem is much deeper. Lack of news and profound programs is a problem common to most networks, and that is the response to a society that is less interested in general in those matters. There is not enough demand for those type of programs anymore. How to raise awareness?
Lamtora 1 year ago 2
Thanks for watching. "There is not enough demand for those type of programs anymore. How to raise awareness?" On the contrary, there IS a demand for quality programing, but Viacom is only interested in cashing in on the negativity that's embraced by weak minded 'children'. Mature adults are the majority, but in the grand scheme of things are ignored. There IS awareness, but when mature people advise or preach to the youth, they get criticised for trying to do the right thing.
seand67 1 year ago
When Bill Cosby or Barack Obama told Black Men to pull their pants up and become better Fathers, they were called 'Uncle Toms', etc. There's a segment of society that WANT'S to embrace the dumbed down mentality, and America's major media outlets are doing everything possible to keep it that way. We had a chance, BUT it went up in smoke when Johnson sold his soul to the Devil (Viacom). This is what you have today....Nigger Entertainment Television...what a waste!
seand67 1 year ago
I had such hopes for BET-J but they too went by the wayside as has Centric, showing the same shows constantly. TV-ONE's only saving Grace is the "Unsung" series.

The shows on BET that I liked back in the day were:
"Our Voices" - a talk show hosted by Bev Smith.
"Lead Story" - a news show hosted by Ed Gordon.
"Screen Scene" - a celebrity news show
(hosted by Melvin Lindsey and Suzette Charles and then by Angela Stribling and Harold McCoo).
"Teen Summit" - a youth oriented talk show (hosted by Lisa Johnson and others).
Bob Johnson was sitting on a cultural goldmine and he sold out for a few pieces of silver.

Anyways, this is one white guys opinion.

Now it's just garbage, telling young men to f everything in site and telling young women to act like whores and have sex with everyone.

madefrom9 1 year ago
Thanks again. When BET was founded back in 1979 or 1980, it SUPPOSED to be an outlet for talent that didn't have a chance to be showcased on MTV or major networks, which basically catered to White viewers. BET's purpose has since become perverted and twisted to be a showcase for mainly sheer negativity. This does not represent the entire Black community.
seand67 1 year ago
I totally agree it does not represent the black community. The problem comes from ignorant white people who don't bother to expand their horizons.
They get all of their information about black people from the media and movies then want to generalize and stereotype.
This applies to all ignorant people though. Not just white people.
iomis2001 1 year ago
@seand67 I remember when BET was so small and dinky back in 83 when my mom got cable. It aired only at night between 7pm -12am and Video Soul was a little video show hosted by a well known Chicago DJ named LaDonna Tittle and they were re-runs. It was like a TV station that broadcasted from somebody's basement. It eventually came up but when it started going down, just before it was soul, Tom Joyner was making a big stink about how Bob Johnson was treating the community. I hardly watch it now.
indigirl86 1 year ago
I never agreed with the name of the channel myself. Black Entertainment Television was too restrictive. It should entertain everybody but make sure blacks were depicted accurately and fairly. That's all we ask of a black owned network. I don't agree with Black History Month either. Accurate history all year should be the norm. Rap has been watered down to nothing more than a fabricated soap opera. No real fan would even download a rap song these days. Nothing but garbage anymore.
madefrom9 1 year ago 2
You make sense Brotherman. The idea and concept of accuracy is something WE can only hope to see in our lifetime. The REAL powers that be are behind the scenes and have a hidden agenda that's being played out via tools like BET and the ignorance it showcases on the regular.
seand67 1 year ago
Right. Viacom and all other networks are owned by members of the Builderberg Group. One look at their agenda and the big picture on this issue becomes all too clear. Ignorance is a mighty tool for them indeed.

Lord, let our people WAKE THE FUNK UP!
seand67 1 year ago
I don't even watch it anymore brother. You are totally right.
madefrom9 1 year ago
Brother, it's only NOW that we realize what we had back in the day on BET. Robert Johnson could care less about how his selling of the network would do nothing but set us back into the age of coonery. Karma is a b*tch and this is why all of Johnson's ventures after selling BET to Viacom have FAILED.
seand67 1 year ago
Now Karma is spanking that a** and he deserves it.
madefrom9 1 year ago
Bruh, that was indeed chump change for Viacom, and look at the return for their investment. The price for keeping Black youth dumbed down & ignorant is simply PRICELESS in their eyes. It's too bad our people won't wake up, and look past BET puppets like Debra Lee, and stop settling for LESS. Wouldn't it be funny if the Charlotte Bobcats become a winner after Johnson sells the team to Michael Jordan. I want MJ to make Johnson look like the fool he is!
seand67 1 year ago
Too bad indeed brother. There seems to be no end in sight for our peoples unconsciousness. Look at the move Precious. One of the most degrading works depicting our black women and so many of us stand up and praise it like the second coming. Monique doesn't even realize that she is being used as puppet to lead more black folks into negative stereotypes with that movie and her show. At least I hope she doesn't realize it. Our people need to wake up fast!
madefrom9 1 year ago
I'm happy to tell you that I haven't seen Precious or become all consumed with it's hype, unlike SO MANY OTHERS. Those who 'drank the kool aid' got furious when Howard Stern broke it down for what it was, a mess. And now the movie is supposed to be legit since Monique won an Oscar ? Blah Blah. BET should feature 'Precious'...it would fit so well with that channel's other programs. Wouldn't suprise me if they tried to develop a 'Precious' TV serious...whew..;~(
seand67 1 year ago
I drank the kool aid my brother, then spit it out quickly. I wanted to give it a chance but I soon realized my worst fears. Then like you said, the Oscar buzz started and got everybody punch drunk. Now you got black folks defending this mockery as if their lives depended on it. What Stern was trying to say was true and this young lady will realize this all too soon. She will either get no work or offers for KFC and McDonald's commercials. He was wrong for degrading her looks only.
madefrom9 1 year ago
True enough, Stern didn't have to 'go there' about her looks. Shoot, I heard Black people say a lot worse, and Jamie Foxx even said she was the 'Notorious Precious'...whew. And that's another thing, nobody is even trying to use this young lady's real name...she is ETERNALLY 'Precious'. Stereotyped 4 LIFE!!
seand67 1 year ago
Of course black folks say worse about her among themselves but they don't like it when someone of another race says it. It's like when you pick on your sister or brother. As long as you do it, it's all good but let someone outside your family do it and it's on! Lol. I myself didn't like the fact that Stern said she was an enormous "Black" woman. Why say Black at all? There are plenty of enormous white actors in the industry too. It just rubbed me wrong.
madefrom9 1 year ago
I feel you on the fat White actors. Stern was definitely wrong calling 'Precious' an enormous Black woman.
seand67 1 year ago
I was in the barbershop just the other day when a heated discussion started over the movie Precious. Once all the issues were laid out including the degrading role Halley Berry played in Monster's Ball along with the one played by Terrence Howard in Hustle and Flow to get Oscar attention, everyone finally saw the light and realized that Precious was a degrading piece of work not worthy of any trophies other than Coonery Of The Year.
madefrom9 1 year ago
Yessir, Halle won an Oscar for lines in 'Monstar's Ball' like..."So do you realllly like chocolate ice cream ???" before Billy Bob Thornton took her cakes on the floor. Just gutter...and then after winning the Oscar, she cries on stage ranting about those who paved the way....Halle OD'd on the kool aid...FOR REAL
seand67 1 year ago
Yeah man, Halley basically did porn and all of a sudden after all of her previous deserving work, got the Oscar. Terrence plays the role of a simple street hustler and he get's one. Then to further rub it in our faces, they gave 3 6 Mafia a damn Grammy for that garbage they did for the movie. We haven't seen those clowns since. Bet they never thought they would be without work after a Grammy. They all OD'd on the kool aid brother. The purple drank. Lol.

imhotep1 1 year ago
