  • Just thought I'd let everyone know that these are $180 each at B&H right now (you need to add to cart to see that price). Best deal around from a "known" seller!

Unfortunately they don't have the footswitch though, I guess i'll get that from Planet DJ?

  • I JUST ORDER ONE FOR A GREAT PRICE

  • LOL @ the midget at 6:05 !!!!

  • Thanks for the rundown on the strips.

From 6:00 to 7:00 you can see why they say white people CAN'T DANCE.

    LMAO!

  • that's alot of light for such a small dance. Oh well. Go big or go home, i guess

  • nice vid...how much would one colour strip cost?

  • Can the control panel choose some of the effects and then immediately go to another effect?

  • No, but if you choose a single effect, then you are left with that effect until you choose another one. However, program 23 will play 8-20 (sound activated or manual speed control) in rotating, random order.

    Thanks,

    Chauvet Lighting

  • Unfortunately the good lighting doesn't help these dancers. It was kind of you to not video their faces. ;-)

  • I was thinking to use this for a color wash on a wall using DMX control.

Is it a good unit for that?

Basically I want to have perhaps three different colors on the Strip and control that appearance with a DMW controller. Is that doable?

I.e can I assign any color to any part of the strip using DMX??

Looking at the manual it looks like I have to choose a color for the whole strip...

  • can i use this with an analog sequencer like the elation copilot II

  • rockin party lol

  • I have a couple questions for ya... How would this light hold up to a through of up to 30 feet? I am doing musical theater work and we would like it to act as the main stage illumination for the scenes (Stage is 45' W x 30' D with a proscenium height of 25' max). I want to do away with our current 500 watt inc. flood lamps and move into these LED fractures.

Also, within the RGB mode, can you make it approximate the same color temp. as an incandescent Par Bulb?

    Thanks man!

    Landon

  • Are you able to control colors within the color change modes? Like can you allow just red to strobe? Or is the foot controller needed for this? I guess i'm confused on how you can control specific colors within modes. I have only dabbled in controllers with strobe lights, so that's about it. Your knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

  • how effective would this be in a theatrical production where the backwall 'white' would be require to be lit in different colours?

    thanks

  • As long as a slight cyan cast (instead of pure white) is ok, it would be fine. I've been experimenting with diffusion gels which further soften the fixtures light. I will be doing a vid on the diffusion experiment soon.

  • is it possible to do the runway effect with no dmx control? like is there a mode i can set it to on the back of the unit to do runway

  • Yes, as long as you have the units master/slave linked, all the "color chases" will run through the fixtures. You have to use either the menu for that (Sound mode has both mimicking patterns and runway patterns) or the foot controller.

  • so its not possible to do this effect with just one unit and have it chase from one side of the unit to the other?

  • Yes it is possible. by "run through the fixtures" I was talking about chasing from one to the next...the runway effect, sorry if it didn't make sense.

  • Excellent review! I've only seen these in Master/Slave mode. Can these fixtures be individually controlled? (Are they addressable?) Are there any dip-switches (or such) to create static colors without using a controller? Thanks for the video and info.

  • Got my answer a couple minutes ago.

    Per Chauvetlighting...

"The fixtures can be individually controlled, it is very easy to use in stand alone mode and you can set static colors."

  • nice review...I was wondering though, do I MUST have a DMX controller in order to cotrol what color light comes out? I was planning on using this for a class play (to light up the stage as a wash light) but I needed to control the lights a little but a DMX controller is very expensive. please let me know

    thanks!

  • Programs 1-7 control specific colors, you can set them to a specific color and leave it. You could also run program 22 which is color fade (it can fade extremely slowly too). Two options for use without a DMX controller.

But, if you want to *fade* rather than cut from a specific color to another specific color, DMX control would be the only way to do that.

  • ok thanks...and the strobe function needs the DMX too? Or is there any way to do it without DMX? And last question, is it good enough to light up a regular size stage? It's more on the small size of a school stage.

    thanks

  • Strobe function only works on certain patterns. Take a look at the DMX value table to see, but no they can be operated via control panel as well, but I've found at low values they are mostly off, only 90-100 is really worthwhile.

If you can fit the entire stage into it's beam angle (63 degrees by 23? I believe) then yes, it will. But I find having two on opposite sides does a much better job. It's bright, but it will only light up what's within it's beam angle.

  • Yeah the DMX controllability can be very confusing. Sometimes certain channels will control strobing, but if you're in certain programs it'll do something completel different.

I'm using Light Jockey so it lays things out and you can few each channel a little better. I'd probably go insane programming with a regular ADJ or chauvet DMX board though.

  • "It's frustrating with so many LED fixtures coming on the market, there's always a better one out right after you buy them." - Neil

Yeah your not kidding me!!! I only just got the REvo3 a few weeks ago and already theres new LED effects that make that light blush... its insane! I think that will teach me to not buy any more of these for a long while.

I would like a nice LED wash but I like the parcan style better. I'm waiting for something like the Colorado 1 or 3 to come down in price.

  • Very good, I have been lookn at these or the color tube. may have sold me on these.

  • Thanks for posting avideo on these. I have been wondering about them since I first saw the Chauvet video. That extra master/slave port is very very nice I hope they do that on more fixtures from now on! 5*

  • You're video on the colorpalettes *almost* had me sold on them, but these definately are cool having programs that chase from one onto the next. It's frustrating with so many LED fixtures coming on the market, there's always a better one out right after you buy them.

I did like your color banks?! though in your vids!

  • Great review, thanks. Have you tried it with haze, does it effect the appearance drastically?

  • I haven't tried them in fog/haze yet, but from seeing the effects of haze on other led pars, I'm pretty sure it will only make the patterns more obvious, but not increase the effect drastically.

  • How do you trasport them?

  • So far, just individually, I'm planning on mounting them vertically to my t-bar tripods and then I'll see about designing something for safety for transport.

  • Very well done! I think I'm sold now :)

    (((SteVieD)))

  • good job!

  • Great review. Very complete and informative.
