I don't know why many students at my HS laugh at special Ed students that they see on the streets or on other schools. They so fucking ignorant how about if there child was a special Ed student how would they fell about it??? btw student who have mental problems or disabilities is due to genetic malfunction I learn it from my bio class

I worked in this field for six years- many days of which I will forget, but many students left me permanently changed. Anyone that says this type of education should not be offered does not understand the true value of this type of interaction for these students.Admittedly, many of them will not move on to college, but in my opinion that is not the point. Thomas Paine once said "Education is that which remains once you have forgotten everything you learned in school." I don't regret a single day

@WeAreWakingUp College,I had a learning disability and there was no help in my time.When I tried to go to community college to better myself and they found out I was LD.I was told to drop out and never come back.

I guess I do not belong there. I pass my GED on the first try and I was surprised.

It would be nice if every single teacher had the knowledge to address every learning need...but that's not reality, especially in high school where most teachers teach subjects, not students.

Everyone getting the same treatment isn't the same as everyone getting the individualized treatment that they may need.

@patreetz You are so right. My son is in high school, now in 2010, his high school would not let him participate in PE to walk in his special walker. The school asigned him an 1-on-1 aide, but he has to walk alone without peers, sometime has to walk in a classroom when all the students are sitting at their desk. It's really sad. For such a simple request and the school refused to help him.

All people are equal and I'm for total 100%mainstreaming of school age children as all people are equal!!! I still believe that special education schools are the worst waste of taxpayer money there is in existance.

I don't agree with segregation of students by putting them in a separate school, either.

All people are equal, but as it stands now, even in a mainstreamed school, like where I work, there are still needs that unfortunately can't be met by every "regular" classroom teacher.
