wow, poor kitty, I suppose he's learned that from his owner, he's so lonely! =S You can see when a cat doesnt have many cats to hangout with, and I'm sure Ligeti doesnt make you very popular either... lawl
@bigfootpegrande I know cats well enough, and when they play with themselves or humans like that it usually means they dont have other cats with whom to play, and music is an affective construct, as socially charged as smiling, but I never thought of the probability that your ambient isnt a cultural desert... anyways, salute your kitty on my behalf.
I dont think it is the effect of Ligeti... the cat's brain is not that much complicated yet...maybe after 10000000 years living with human I will agree :D but the thing is: Why are you playing ligeti for your cat? She wil be brain damaging...haha!
It's OBVIOUS that your cat grasps the intrinsic value of Ligeti's musical vision, and expresses that understanding through the complexities of well-conceived and executed interpretive dance. Okay, all glibness aside, this is fantastic. I'm traveling, and thus, far away from my cat, so seeing this has made me feel a bit less homesick. I love this video.
in that case you must hate Bach, Haendel, Corelli, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Wagner, Prokofiev, etc. All of them use plenty of dissonances. Don´t believe me? Listen Mozart´s string quartet "Dissonance" :)
but There is A LOT more going on in this music besides dissonance and a lot more elements that people can "not like". So if all you hear when you listen to this is dissonance, THEN you are ignorant.
Dissonance is an integral part of all music. Ligeti did not just write this piece for the dissonance, he was using compositional techniques that happened to produce those notes. What you said was ignorant because you aren't listening past the discords.
They are so very serious about chasing that tail, aren't they? But there's always time for a little shoulder grooming. Got to keep looking good even when fighting the Snake Tail.
While personally, I instinctually feel that Debussy or Ravel might have better provided a more solid sense of other-worldlyness suggested by the cat's emulation of a dog confused by the actions of its own tail, one cannot help but note the underlying feral instincts brought to the forefront of this video by its producer's subtle use of Ligeti's catchy tunes. Daring and delightful, this is a must see for fans of Kafka and Espinosa.
the fact that the cat at least has a roof to live under should be enough to make people happy.....
