Seems a bit breathless....I love this song! But it kills me how most performers (not just the shins) lack that quality. BUT ITS STILL AMAZING. I am a violinist at Juilliard and its so unfortunate how everything these days has to be so perfect...and also....when the bands like the shins record..its all remastered to be perfect...why not sell the real version???? hm? Its nice to hear everyone perfectly in tune and all..but it looses its real organic quality...meh

i'm a huge fan of the shins and i agree that mercer resembles kevin spacey but it was one of those things where i listened to these dudes a thousand times before i ever got the itch to google them...

i did the same thing with Dr. Drew and Adam Carolla when I was younger. i listened to them for about three years straight, then i saw them on the their midnight MTV show and it freaked me out that Dr. Drew had grey hair and Adam looked like a caveman.

Mercer is extraordinary. His sound leaves him open to indie shots, like he's forcing some retro mass appeal. But it's honest music, take it for what you will. I think James Mercer is one of a kind, and I hope those that enjoy The Shins find a musical voice that will give us more to be excited about on the radio dial.
