vaio p downgrade tool only works with "english (america)" set as time/metric/currency at xp setup... otherwise some drivers fail to install unnoticable!
Also there seem to be a conflict with a pci controller and serial(hidden) with yellow questionmarks. So I manually updated the pci driver and disabled the serial. These two problems are causing the freeze at restart/shurring down sequence.
It was a pain in the butt to troubleshoot it but it works fine now^^
windows xp on the vaio p must be great! I had some difficulties though figuring out how to install windows xp on it ! and its not that im a complete noob. could you tell me how you installed xp on your computer ? the only post on the internet concerining that is tnkgrl's post which as a matter of fact is rather brief!
I recently purchased a Vaio P Series. Windows Vista's performance is a big disappointment especially when viewing video full screen. Windows XP and Windows 7 Beta are alternatives I am currently considering. What problems have you encountered with the XP install. do all of the proprietary buttons still work correctly? I'm very concerned about the Sony PSP/PS3 like 30 second start interface for quick access to movies, music and the internet. Does it still function as it should?

I installed both Vista and Windows 7 and I'm not satisfied. XP is the real OS for Vaio P.

XP = very fast on my HDD!
- on vaio screen press F2 few times to enter bios.
- enable boot from external device
- boot with winxp on external DVD usb drive (sp2 or higher! sp1 doesnt recognise sata)
- go with setup
- start internet in xp, go to sony support and download xpdowngrade tool.
- start executable, it will download all drivers
- after it finished it automatically install all drivers and reboot to install the rest.
The setup look like it hangs but thats not the case.
