  • Thanks Ryan! Great tutorial...I consider myself pretty tech savvy but don't know how long it would have taken me to fumble my own way though all of the install without your video. Great job, easy to follow and concise. Thanks again!

  • You're AWESOME!

  • Great video but i cannot find my website's name in the public html folder. The only things that appear in this folder are cgi-bin, .htaccess, 400.shtml, 401.shtml, 402.shtml, 403.shtml, 404.shtml, 500.php, 500.shtml, default.html, and favicon.ico. Should I just upload my wordpress files directly into the publichtml folder or how can i find my website name within it?

  • ok...im such a girl and i swear i fumbled a billion times before i saw your vid Ryan..mind you this was done 4 years ago but still very good and resourceful. thank you for giving us "not so technically savvy folk" opportunity to be such!

  • Ryan, your video was immensely helpful. I use 1and1 as a host, but I was easily able to figure out everything even though the versions, etc have updated. Great video - I can't thank you enough!! (Oddly there are newer videos from other users but they're nearly impossible to watch/understand). Hugely helpful resource. Thanks a million!

  • thanks a lot... i was tired of blogger..

  • You're a legend Ryan, excellent tutorial. Thanks heaps!

  • I can't manage to connect FZ with my server! I'm using hostgator and i put 21 on my port number, but it won't connect.

  • I found your video really useful. However, i've got one single problem. When i'm connecting my host to the site, Filezilla says that there is an error. Basically I can't connect the website to the host. What would be the problem? The port number, maybe?

  • this guy really understands how to teach! Thank you SO MUCH for going over the basics, you made it so easy!

  • this was very helpful..thank you

  • how do I find out the correct port?

  • When I type my domain into my browser I get, Error establishing a database connection... what am i doing wrong?

  • @ebizpro2go I'm getting the same thing. It's a server/host connection error. I'm using goDaddy and I can't for the life of me figure out what the host name is. I've tried what godaddy gave me as a hostname but it didn't work. Neither did localhost. Did you figure this out by chance?

  • Hi Ryan..I just loved your tutorial..Just fantastic:0)

I was trying to install word using Fantastico..and I got this warning

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'netonlin'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1317211713.7578pLqCimZ0nL on line 1617

Access denied for user 'netonlin'@'localhost' (using password: Y >What's wrong?

  • Hey Ryan, Under my public_html folder I only have 'files' 'images' and 'Scripts' available to choose from... Where should I drag and drop wordpress into out of those options?

  • Suppose I have registered the domain at namecheap and installed wordpress. Would it then be possible to uppgrade the space on wordpress store?

  • I just made a wordpress website via the browser but I want to buy a domain name now - how do I transfer the content from my wordpress website to the newly registered domain?

    Cheers

  • @frederikVtube Best way is to use the Export tool inside of Wordpress.

  • @ryanmcmillan Thanks. Can I use the WordPress design I've chosen, or will it be lost when I export the content to a remote server?

  • Does this not work for vistapanel? :(

    Can I not use byethost?

  • @AbyssalBait my instructions should work for most hosting providers.

  • @ryanmcmillan I must have done something wrong, will try for the 3rd/4th time.

When i do the final step which is actually going to the site to make wordpress appear it just takes me to the root and when i go to open any files and such it opens in text on my browser... Somewhat hard to explain. :(

Any free hosts you could suggest that use cpanel and not vistapanel?
