  • Great Argerich...!!!!!!!

  • little Martha :) God bless you!

  • mamma argerich

  • TOO FAST

    6:16-6:24

  • @Valmanway9 Who cares?

  • i prefer this one to hers:

    watch?v=O6AAOkgTeHA

  • luuuve

  • She had an affair with the conductor. And then they were married.

  • Pure virtuosity, undiluted musicality !

For those nay-sayers, though she plays with extreme passion and fury, she is never quite unbridled, and has great musical sensibility.

  • A real pleasure to listen to Martha Argerich.Part 4/4 is WONDERFUL....

    I shall never forget it.......

  • Lmfao Martha is bored the whole time the orchestra is playing!

  • @whitechocolateex that is why i hate her.

  • Okay at 3mins I was kinda beginning to wonder when she was going to start playing lol - I've never heard this concerto before, so I was a bit like "...come on then" :P

But it was SO worth the wait! Wow.

  • Thank you!

She is a goddess in the pantheon of pianists, oh God how much I love her...

  • amazing talent and personality

  • look at her streching and moving, such anxiety.

  • it would be hilarious if the camera panned down to the pages in front of the conductor and there were pictures of stick characters on HOW TO MOVE ...lol!

  • Big favorite! Beautiful presentation! Thank you! Petlánovics József

  • Big favorite! Beautiful presentation! Thank you!

  • I never really understood why the conductor is always such a highly esteemed aspect of an orchestra. After all, the orchestra has the music in front of them, nuances and all (force, time sig, crescendos, etc. Why is he necessary? He's just waving his arms around.

After watching this, I see 2 essential functions of his role:

1.) He is a constant visual metronome that I suspect might subconsciously influence the musician's precise timing.

    2.) I don't remember what two was. [8]

  • @oicwatudidthare You should really watch the documentary "the art of conducting." that would certainly answer your question and make you realize its vital importance in the orquestra.

  • @oicwatudidthare I never realized the importance of the conductor till I played with one whose movements were too vague; seriously I couldn't keep in time for shit, and it wasn't just me. He also does a load of other crap aside from that which I mostly cant remember or be bothered to type out. Either way he tends effect how the orchestra plays a lot.

  • @RH98

I think the conductor's movements are noticed from the corner of your eye while playing. I bet there's some strong truth in this.

  • thank you martha

  • My first encounter with this Chopin piece was a recording played by Van Cliburn and the Philadelphia Orchestra. The 1st movement completely defeated my will resulting in my total emotional surrender. Never had such experience before. This rendition is equally powerful. Here an Argentine pianist, a Swiss conductor, a Japanese Orchestra, and a helpless American listener all come under the spell of a Polish composer! (Cliburn won the Tchaikovsky Competition and Argerich won the Chopin Competition)

  • That Woman is so beautiful !!!

  • Ouch! The end of this upload is not the end of the movement. Chopin and Argerich were wonderful; and the orchestra was as wonderful at home as the Japanese are in orchestras all over the world now. But I cannot give 'WohlTemperierte' a Like for the music for how it was provided, sorry.

  • @thumlyly Yeah, it’s a little disappointing not being able to enjoy this beautiful 1st movement uninterrupted. But don’t blame the channel owner. YT has a limitation on the size of each upload, roughly equivalent to about 10 minutes. So the piece had to be cut in half. (Other classical music with a long movement has to go through the same knife, mind you)

Actually, I have to commend the owner for making this great performance available for us all to appreciate. Thank you!

  • I wonder how many of these 558,601 views are me...

  • romance....

  • This performance only proved the fact we know Argerich is still one of the greatest pianist for Chopin's No. 1. Good support as well by NHK Symphony Orchestra conducted by Charles Dutoit, who was married to Argerich from 1969 to 1973. Excellent.

  • Her music is really worderful other things are not interesting!

  • Her art is really worderful other things are not interesting! We can speak about bad side ot Chopin'life life but his music makes peope happy and it is the only thing whic is interesting. (Sorry for my English!)

  • 34 people suffer from clogged ears.

  • @ravelismyhubby91 now are 35 haha XD

  • @designerpm: he is charles dutoit, her ex husband.

  • @MadamePingPing Does she have now a husband?

  • Comment removed

  • She's so beatiful!!!

  • Awesome! TY wohl for posting.

  • Guest Conductor... looks like Charles Dutoit.

  • Please don't read too much into this, but I do find it interesting that both the conductor and the soloist are Western, while the orchestra is Japanese...

  • @renumeratedfrog It isn't strange for orchestras from all over the world to invite conductors and performers from other continents.

  • What a beautiful woman she is

  • merveilleuse, sublime musicienne!!!!!!!!!!merci Martha

  • its too bad the recording of this performance is total rubbish.

  • @AlcoholLevel -Have another drink. lol

  • I have yet to see a better face/body expression. she gives me goosebumps all over my body. Even the way she appreciates the music while listening to the orchestra is stunning, such appreciation to the creator is very rare to find. I love her mouth expressions while playing...

  • vagmerteb am qals!!!!!!!!!! adorable playing!

  • 59 people in the world are stupid enough not to love this fantastic performance. that is quite optimistic - there are lots of normal people. martha is great!!

  • @hapalpaja 29:-)

  • Martha Argerich... I love you!!

  • tall pants the conducter sure has!

  • Does she use the edition by Ignaz Friedman?

  • I watched 6 different pianists play this piece, I still think Yundi Li is the best

  • The best version of this concerto is a cheap CD i bought at a supermarket. Played by Dubravka Tomsic and the Ljubljana Orchestra. Not kidding.

  • WAY TOO FAST IMO. Yundi li plays it best for this piece

  • Absolutely Beautiful! So strong and yet so vulnerable. Love it and her!

    Orchestra sounds great too!

  • A 4 minute introduction...geesh.

  • Martha reminds me of meryl streep for some reason :P

  • @PianoBart958 I think it's the long grey hair for me, but she reminds me of Patti Smith. They're both wonderful artists, IMHO. Martha's technique seems, to me, to be so natural and easy, and this could be one of the reasons she's so popular while avoiding all the media hype.

  • Argerich, genial como siempre. concierto sublime

  • Want's sure that I'd like Argerich playing this piece... Boy was I ever wrong!!! BRAVO!!

  • She is really gorgeous, and she looks like susan sontag

  • Muy rápido!!!! :(

  • who is conducting?

  • @Bon0 Charles Dutoit, her ex-husband (1969-73)

  • She is an exciting presence. Blazing skill and wonderful humanity.

  • Too sharp around the edges for this sublime sonata - but this is par for Argerich. Contrast Rubinstein's touch and phrasing.

  • awww so romantic from 4:31

  • she play piano since a long time ago.i hope there are more than 100 milion people watch this video.

  • Why are there always so many Chinese people in the orchestra, but not Blacks?

  • @renumeratedfrog first of all, they're japanese. and second of all, this concert took place in japan. of course they're gonna use a japanese orchestra.

  • @purplefreak137

To be fair, I think that was probably the first thought of all 436,000 people upon first viewing this: Why is the orchestra composed of all Chinese and not black people? I know it was mine.

  • The conductor reminds of John Cleese, for some reason... :P

  • ...I thought the late Keith Floyd......

  • @renumeratedfrog Yeah he does!! You're so right, just like in A fish called Wanda :D

  • @BinaVicky Haha, exactly... Barrister Archie Leach.

  • @renumeratedfrog I adore Archie!! :D

  • @renumeratedfrog Yeah same :P I took a double take when I looked at him :P

  • @renumeratedfrog The only way he could be more like John Cleese is if he actually was John Cleese. (This performance... not in general)

  • @renumeratedfrog haha now that you've mentioned it! It's John Cleese's haircut and motions (watch 2:52 for instance)

  • @renumeratedfrog looks nothin like him imho

  • @renumeratedfrog Michael Palin also

  • Creo sinceramente que esta interpretado demasiado rápido. No me transmite tanto como Zimerman...

  • At 0:32 ... the kiss ? of the true love.........

  • @200800714 1996 in Japan, and i think that's Charles Dutoit, so possibly the orch was Montreal or LSO?

  • @200800714 1996 in Japan, and i think that's Charles Dutoit, and most of the players look Asian, so I think it's a Japanese orch

  • @hopuiyin12 you're right it's Dutoit and I'm pretty sure that's the NHK Symphony (orch of Japanese national broadcasting corp.)

  • Actually noticed the source of a well known sequenze on "Polsat" , a polish channel by the way. It occurs at 4:30 first. Yeeah...that´s quite astonishing! I Heard this every time before they talked about the weather and found it completely wonderful, though I hated classical music former times!!

    Loving you Martha!!!

  • 1:45 it's like she's pretend playing with the orchestra or something... lol

  • DID SHE LICK HER HAND AT 0:07 ish - 0:09

  • @hohohee1 LOL no, she coughed. If you listen you hear someone coughing, and I am 99% certain it is her. That's pretty funny, though - it totally looks like it.

  • @hohohee1 no i think she was rubbing her nose.

  • she plays better than before she was much more younger.

    even that genius talent improves!

  • She's a gorgeuos and talented woman !!

  • It was actually 14 years ago.and look how gorgeous she looks.

and its so cute when she grooms her hair and nibs her finger at the beginning.

by the way, this is a really nice piece and her expressiveness made this whole piece sound even more amazing than before.

  • her version of this concerto is too fast , especially around 4:35, seems her part of the piano piece is drop out of the whole structure , also her emotion of this piece is not involved well, kind the dry, she treat it too light , like a student rush out the exam , I understand she is one great pianist , but for this performance , it is not my favor thought

XD

  • @SirGlennGould e io come faccio a capire che è inglese? XD

  • to be frank, im annoyed that i there is 4 minutes before hearing the piano.

  • @musicandminastirith You have to complain to Chopin

  • from 4:32 to 4:45 is one of the most emotional peaces of the history of classical. It is very sample, but it make me cry every time i listen to it

  • @piepiepiepiepiepieok - i totally agree

  • Comment removed

  • That's so magig, so powerful! Exceptionnal

  • Moszkowski, Paderewski, Chopin.

  • The Claudio Arrau version is my prefered. Martha, as usual, plays it too QUICKLY !

But what a technic skill ! She terrifies the competition, for sure !

  • She's like: "Oh God, i'm boring, boooring B-O-R-I-N-G... Oh what a nice roof... Yes, now my turn"

  • @NieMachoMan but you have to admit the FOUR MINUTES of orchestra before the piano entrance is like not even needed

i really don't like this piece lol -_-

  • It's not Chopin's most highly rated piano piece -- for the simple reason that he didn't know how to write for an orchestra. Somehow, it seems to have translated into a subpar composition for the piano part as well. Even Liszt was a better orchestra composer.

  • very fast tempo i didnt like it lack of emotion yundi li is far better

  • im not a fan of argerichs chopin interpretations and also this one isnt in my type. but she is of course one of the greatests living pianists.

  • is it the orchestra that sounds so bad? or just chopin's infamously poor orchestral skills?

  • @MrEnglishmath actually the orchestra part for this is dreadful i was really surprised at first as well -_-

  • It's not that surprising: simply put, Chopin didn't know how to write for an orchestra (like, say, Mozart, Beethoven, or Brahms).

  • For all of you who want to skip the horribly suckass orchestral intro, the pianist begins at 4:05. Unbelievably worthless orchestra, like vapor.

Argerich on the other hand is a beautiful poetess. Thank God for her!!!!!!!!!!

  • One can tell that she isn't trying to show off technique like many other pianists, but concentrate of musical phrasing. She's never moved me until now. I understand she was on winner's row in a Chopin Competition a long time ago.

  • she makes a funny face at 0:32

  • horowitz! the best!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @SandyElm Horowitz never recorded this. Did he?

  • @SandyElm Horovitz was one of greatest pianist of XX. but Martha A. is very very good pianist. She plays w Shotakovich and Bartok as well. I do not but I think she has wider repetory.

  • so amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GLORIOSA MARTHA, TE AMO!!!!!!!!!

  • 4:36 - 5:05 khiến tôi quá xúc động!

  • The orchestra sound too boring and when Martha starts playing you completely forgot that there's an orchestra behind her. Long live Martha Argerich.

P.S. I have a DG vinyl with her and Nicolas Economou playing the Symphonic Dances (Rachmaninov) and The Nutcracker (Tchaikovsky)... BEAUTIFUL.

  • I have a recording of this concert (and many more) played by Marta Argerich!

    It's so beautiful!

  • you can def. hear how Chopin was inspired by Mozart in his concertos

  • The incredible Martha . Incomparable !

  • @rolldito ARGENTINA TENIA QUE SER!!!...

  • @142ESTEBAN I agree! Although I play the violin, I cannot resist be listening to her! She is unique. The new talent after Martha Argerich is Yilianna Avdeeva. Listen to her to the same music piece and you'll see!

    Afectuosamente: Carlos (Argentina)

  • this is not her best performance..

  • that was great! AND her hands in the reflection of her piano look like the hand from the addams family :-D

  • Chopin is the greastest and Martha rocks my boat. Good stuf!

  • She is great technical, but I don't feel that much emotion in it. But of course it's my private point of view. Maybe Chopin would perceive it as excellent performance ;)

  • The violin soloist looks like he stepped right off the set of the Lawrence Welk Show, and the conductor reminds me of my drunk uncle at a family reunion. Great piece though! Now back to the serious, critiquing conversation already in progress...

  • @LetMyPeopleThink FYI, the conductor is Dutoit, who was Argerich's second husband.

  • This music is art work, thats all I know.

  • bravissima
