  • K. Dun Gifford at 0:48 "I saw the car and everything & the commotion down there and I thought, 'Oh my God, there goes Ted's presidency right there."

It may have been an off the cuff comment but Gifford, didn't you instead think:

" Oh my God - has anyone been hurt? Is everyone OK? Has anyone drowned? "

    or just "WTFF???"

This is one of the most insensitive, minimizing, dismissive & invalidating comments I've ever heard about what happened at Chappaquiddick.

SHAME on you K. Dun Gifford.

  • Maybe he was set up by the same men who assassinated John & Robert Kennedy?

  • "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others".

    George Orwell, "Animal Farm"

  • Kopechne, a campaign worker...Kennedy steered the car off the bridge, flipped, and into Poucha Pond. He swam to shore and walked back to the party — passing several houses and a fire station...Kennedy made his way to his hotel, called his lawyer, and went to sleep." (4/4)

The founder of the kennedywand concept!

People gloss over these things, but even something like 'legacy to Harvard' is life altering -- you don't even need a kennedywand after that

  • While attending law school at the University of Virginia, he was cited for reckless driving four times, including once when he was clocked driving 90 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood with his headlights off after dark. Yet his Virginia driver’s license was never revoked...On 19 July 1969, Kennedy attended a party on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts. At about 11:00 PM, he borrowed his chauffeur’s keys to his Oldsmobile limousine, and offered to give a ride home to Mary Jo (3/4)

  • "once for paying a classmate to cheat for him. While expelled, Kennedy enlisted in the Army, but mistakenly signed up for four years instead of two. His father pulled the necessary strings to have his enlistment shortened to two years, and to ensure that he served in Europe, not Korea, where a war was raging. Kennedy was assigned to Paris, never advanced beyond the rank of Private, and returned to Harvard upon being discharged.

  • the many people who get away with things, get positions, etc. not even because this is a 'who you know, not what you know' country, but 'who your parents/relatives or close friends are'

"Kennedy earned C grades at the private Milton Academy, but was admitted to Harvard as a “legacy” — his father and older brothers had attended there, so the younger and dimmer Kennedy’s admission was virtually assured. While attending, he was expelled twice, once for cheating on a test, and (1/2)

  • So I was watching cnn just a while ago (I think I may have been like the only viewer) and they had this segment in China with double standards -- two people committed murder but one person got 6 years (that's still a LOT) because he uttered the name of his dad, who was some sr. cop. The other one was executed.

Now, I was thinking about THIS country and this ted guy who LITERALLY GOT AWAY WITH MURDER and is GLAMORIZED as some 'liberal lion' I use the expression 'kennedy-wand' when describing

  • "Oh no there goes Ted's presidency?" What a bunch of shit. He was involved in murder!!

That asshole, the first one speaking, is treating Mary Jo as a disposible object just like Ted did. Seems like Kennedy supporters are blind to the truth that Teddy Boy was a criminal.

  • Kennedys all treated women as disposable trinkets. Telling that the first thought was of Teddy's predential ambitions. Nobody cared about Mary Jo, before or after the crash.

  • typical democrat

  • @rvhawkeye Objectively speaking, you're right. Look at this weiner douche "No I will not step down" ted might as well have done that too "No I will not step down" republicans bite the bullet (so long as it's fair); democrats (most) act like whiny little bitch scumbags true story. Look at barney and charlie. And what happened to chimpanzee maxine? When's she gunna get that ethics investigation? It's probably too late now she's buried the evidence and hid the dead bodies, if you will

  • The Senator was human as we are, had his strengths & weaknesses as we do, and was fallible as we are. He has now met & been judged by his Maker, No other judgement matters.

  • Het Ted your next supposed to go muff diving in the water.

  • I bet Mary Jo was giving him a BJ when he lost control and drove offf the bridge.

  • @rs216016 Not at all far fetched. Why do you think a drunk Ted Kennedy was driving a hot blonde girl over to the beach at night? To gaze at stars for a little while? He should have went to jail for this... A few years ago, Uncle Ted came to my alma matter (Mass Maritime Academy) to do a graduation speech. I almost wanted to stand there with a sign that said "Don't drive into the canal Ted!"

  • @DanSVT03 since when is getting a bj against the law?

  • Barak Obama visited Chappaquiddick on his summer vacation.

  • Mystery? There's no mystery here. Ted was more concerned with saving his political career than saving Mary Jo that night. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

  • Cant be more than 5-6 feet deep...........Alcohol Abuse killed that poor girl. Sober, I think she would've survived. And Sober, Ted would not have drove into the water. I will never, ever, get behind the wheel of a car drunk. Booze&driving is a tragedy just dying to kill someone. It only takes a second for something to go wrong. And booze reduces reflexes tremendously. And this case was NO different. But we focused on Whom, rather than the what, was involved here. DONT DRIVE DRUNK!!!

    peace

  • I love it , how we can all set here and say this and that aboult what happen and how bad of a guy he was , BUT the bottom line is we was not there nor do we know what happen that night and we will naver know , we must go on what we do know of ted from what we have seen him do for the USA . but the bottom line is we was not there and have no way of knowing why , what, and when , but the big one is why . all i know is others love to jump to the bad in anything . it makes a better story .

  • @kevin32douglass about what happened? you have got to be kidding there is a dead girl and Ted didn't report it for 10 hrs. if he tried so many times to go back into the water(which I don't believe) why did he not get help immediately?

  • Don't be so harsh.. i'm sure it was just a youthful indiscretion. Can't we move on. He's trying to do the work of the people.

  • Ted Kennedy, womanizer, drunk, left a woman to die in a submerged car. How dare someone like that think he deserved to be a Senator of the United States. If anything good could come from the death of Ms. Kopechne it is that Kennedy was kept from becoming President of the United States. The Kennedy family is the biggest fraud in politics ever heaped upon this Nation.

  • @49bobbyk

The current was to strong for anyone to be able to rescue her.

  • The chief of police............Dumb as a rock.

  • 53: the first thought was about Ted's presidency ... what about the Mary Jo?

  • @MARCBSTN i thought that at first too but look at it this way, ted was his buddy and he didn't know mary jo from a whole in the ground. Somewhat understandable. No i'm not supporting ted lol

  • @Bravesrtops Please listen from 3:07 on ... in his own words "I was head dog of the boiler room"

  • I told someone who was homeless to go to the University Of Chappaquiddick

  • Ya! And his first address to the public was not about how sorry he was about leaving her to die or just about the whole incident of a person dying in a tragedy with him: No, all Kennedy was thinking about -was not getting caught sticking his doinker in Mary Jo. He talk about no one jumping to conclusions about any acts of immorality. When' the whole real immorality was the fact someone died there.

    He left someone to die.

That was the run down of his first speech to the public about the incident.

  • Ted didn't kill her.

  • what a piece of shit all he cared about was teds presidency not that a life was lost

  • era i tried to era save that bitch but era i couldnt era

  • 3 facts:

    (1) This was the only manslaughter case in the entire 200 years of Mass. criminal history where an autopsy was NOT performed

    (2) The driver who retrieved Mary-Jo thought she suffocated rather than drowned

    (3) The coroner who held Mary-Jo's body before burial thought that she had suffocated rather than drowned & was amazed that no autopsy was to be held

also look in that video how close that bridge is to a house with a PHONE

    Ted=guilty as hell

  • If a Kennedy wants to murder someone ,they can get by with it. Martha Moxley,s mother did stand up to a Kennedy and Won.

  • Rotting in hell a bitch Teddy? About time......

  • by your statement, u'll end up the same.

  • the latest theory is the cop spying them spooked them as they were making out

Kennedy GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND WENT BACK TO THE HOUSE

and told Mary Jo to drive off ALONE and hide till the coast was clear

she had been drinking (altho was under the limit)

and lost control of the massive car she wasnt used to driving - on a sand road over a narrow bridge in the dark

Kennedy only learned about the death the next morning

she left her bag at the party - she wasnt getting the train

  • new research into car accidents in water have revealed that he could never have escaped from the car as easily as he claimed

Also if she had been in the passenger seat she would have sustained serious injury as the car hit the water at that side and was badly smashed

Mary Jo's body came out of the wrecked car unmarked

I still dont get is how he got back to the hotel after told her to scram when the cop saw them

    did he swim over

this theory makes the most sense to me

  • Furthermore, I'm sure he was savvy enough to know that he could have gone back to the hotel, made the call to authorities (or had someone else do it), then gone down to the bar and had several stiff drinks--and by that sidestep any blood tests that could determine he was drunk BEFORE the crash.

This is a well-known strategy, actually, if you can avoid the police for awhile. The excuse is that you were so upset by the accident that you "needed a drink."

  • well you or i might not have had that "stigma' in 1969 but a us senator, with presidential hopes, beign the brother of 2 slain heroes, would have the stigma that his drinking killed a young woman. and he was already in trouble for leaving the scene, and the judge at the inquest added (unofficially) reckless driving and also his impression that ted commited perjury. add drunk driving to that mix andhe was in serious do do

  • That's the point: He was in serious trouble, drunk or not, for not trying to rescue the girl (at least by calling someone--there was a house with a phone within a couple hundred feet of the bridge). Once he went awhile without reporting, then THAT became a far bigger deal than being drunk.

WAITING before reporting made things WORSE than immediately admitting he had too much to drink. Thus, his wait is NOT evidence that he was drunk.

  • GetMeThere1,

I am a personal friend of one of the first state troopers who responded to this accident. Ted Kennedy was drunk at the time he crashed his car, and he did pay people off to keep his senate seat.

  • Don't tell it to me, tell it to a reporter--who would have the wherewithal to vet it.

No State Trooper would know whether or not he was drunk. Witnesses the next morning described him as alert and normal. If members of the party had said he was drunk, it would have been part of the record, which includes several other damning things.

If a "typical" state trooper knew what you claim (especially about payoffs) then others, who could publicize it, would know.

  • Well sadly, even back then it wouldn't have done much good to tell any reporter.

He had been drinking almost all night before he got in that car.

The state trooper never talks much about the accident (well, atleast before Ted passed away, I haven't seen him recently). But I do know he was told to "take the money and shut up" otherwise he would have lost his job. That isn't right.

  • As I said, there's no evidence he was drinking. If it was told to state troopers that he was, then it would have been told to others.

I believe he was more interested in getting laid than getting drunk. If anything, being SOBER only makes him look worse--he calmly and SOBERLY let the girl die. If he had been drunk he could have the excuse that he didn't know what he was doing.

  • There is a FULL FBI report, with a colossal amount of ancillary info: like death threats to Kennedy, online. It doesn't say he was drunk. State troopers would not consider themselves obligated to keep info from the FBI. And Hoover HATED the Kennedy's. If he were drunk, Hoover would have found out, and it would be in the records.

  • Well, if this state trooper had chosen to take the money, then I guess we can all just what kind of a person the trooper is.

Apparently money and a threat was enough to stop a supposedly "decent" person from telling the truth and let justice be served.

So much for keeping to the oath.

Kennedy may have offered bribes, but taking it and shutting up is just as bad and no more decent.

  • Oh so my friend was a dirty cop by keeping his mouth shut because Uncle Ted was going to take his job away?

You're acting like he was the only man who knew what happened that night. Everyone on duty knew what happened.

You have some fucking nerve sticking up for Kennedy and saying the police were just as bad for not saying anything.

  • So then everyone who knew what happened is just as guilty as the perpetrators of the crime.

You either stand up and tell the truth or you're just dirty and a person of no honor. It's choices like this that shows who a person really is.

Maybe that's a harsh reality about your friend, but what he did is no different than watching a crime happen and not report it. A true man of honor and integrity would have made sure the truth came out, not just shut their mouth because of a threat.

  • Why doesn't this video mention:

    1) She told nobody at the party she was leaving.

    2) She left her purse and keys at the party

    3) The car was seen parked in a nearby cemetary, and when approached by another driving wondering what they were doing there, it sped off?

A girl dies in the service of giving a b*** j** to a celebrity....

  • Question is why did this girl get in the car with an obviously drunk man? There's no way she should have ridden with him. That was poor judgment on her part. She couldn't have gotten a ride with someone else?

  • As far as I know, there is NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER that he was drunk. The only relevant "evidence" of what was transpiring is the evidence that I alread gave.

She went "for a ride" with the person she INTENDED to go with, for purposes having nothing to do with transportation. Did you even read my comment?

  • I've been reading and hearing for years he was drunk. So, she intended to ride with Ted? Are you saying they were having an affair?

  • The wikipedia article on "The Chappaquiddick incident" supplies many facts. To my reading those facts suggest that in fact they sneaked off in the car for a "quickie," were interrupted as they were parked, and Ted sped off down a road he didn't know well, and then drove off the bridge. As far as I recall, no mention was made in the article of anyone reporting him to be drunk--while there WAS significant information provided to suggest their drive was not about taking her "back to her hotel."

  • I read they were headed to the beach, not to the ferry for her to go back home.

  • the evidence he was drunk is the pos didnt report the accident for 10 hours, letting the potential booze in his system dissipate, and trying to give him time to make excuses as to why they were parked on a road when a cop spotted them

  • That may be a SUGGESTION he was drunk, but I wouldn't call it "evidence." It's also reasonable that he just couldn't face up to the whole situation.

Besides, "drunk driving" didn't have NEARLY the focus back in those days than it does now (I was just getting my driving license in 1969). Yeah, it was illegal, etc. But believe me, it had NOWHERE NEAR the stigma or legal implications as today.

  • they spelled waivered wrong in the end

  • there was a cottage next door - hmm, seems like Ted could've gone up there immediately, said, "call the police and the fire dept." and within minutes could have rescued Mary Jo.

    Instead - he left

  • not that you know of orange

  • "oh my god, there goes Ted's presidency right there"

NOT - "oh my god a woman died at the hands of a man who left her there to drown"

    Pretty much says it all!

  • Exactly what I was thinking.

    What a scumbag!

  • @ICONICFREEDOM you should fuck her bones, big mouth

  • Unfortunately, there is a recurring theme here;like clinton,he was so much in favor of "women's rights" in the public sphere, but in the private life....not so much. ;and ,like Clinton, women's groups would never condemn his hyper-aggressive womanizing, or this moral outrage."He's one of OUR GUYS" you know?

  • He can't be in favor of women's rights and be horny at the same time? I am.

  • 200800:When Kennedy chased women ,he wasn't exactly subtle;borderline, sexual assault, sometimes;there was a Republican a few years back, who'd get all touchy-feely on his aides and others;the Women's groups ran him out of office;wrong party, you know?

  • Oh, you've met Foley, Ensign, Sanford, Craig , Stevens and Cunningham? They did nothing wrong because they're good christian republicans.

  • Pkr:Your argument is that of a 5 year old;

  • Good point.

  • To call Ted Kennedy and coward and killer is what the communists, socialists and radical muslims would like to hear. This is as an unAmerican statement as can be... this is a tragedy that only people that HATE America would bring up and discuss... it is a sad moment and it could have happened to anyone....

  • Pkr: I don't believe in harping on the negative immediately after his death,BUT,on the facts,of course he could be called a coward and killer;what justification is possible for not calling the Police the same night? He basically confessed to a "lack of character' in this case.

  • at best a coward.

    at worst a murderer.

    SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS

  • what a great man he was unfaithful just like his brothers he was a murderer and still americans put him on a pedestal, this is sick and now kennedy can face his creator and he can now burn in hell along with pelosi

  • Hah Hah orangelevithian you are the true fool and blind on top of that. I suppose if Georgey could run again you would vote for him because you are a Rush idiot who can't think for himself.......

  • "There goes Ted's Presidency right there" -Not , I hope nobody was hurt. How appropriate to have this said in his words.

  • God's justice does not sleep forever.

There has never been men so overated as the kennedys.John and Bob were more than likely whacked by the Giancana crime family, who joe kennedy paid to deliver the union votes that got john elected .Then attourney general Bobby goes full court press against the mob.Who shot the Kennedys? Stupid question.

It is telling that teddy saw the death of mary joe as the loss of his presidency, and a kennedy tragedy.

    Narcissistic scumbag.

  • To all the folks who hate on Ted for Chappaquiddick, I do not blame any of you I feel the same way . As for the other posts about libs. (I am one) and Obama haters ( I am not one , I voted for Obama and would do it again)Take your heads out of your ass, there are more sources for information then your right wing rascist drug addict Flush Limbaugh and his sorry ass cronies...You all make me sick you will cut your nose off to spite your face. Make up lies about our President cause your guy lost

  • You remind me of the Dicks who said that they supported Bush jr and would vote for him again after seeing his true colors.

It just goes to show that there are dipshits on both sides.

  • Well whatever Rush has done, an innocent woman did not die.

Your case as "our President" speaks volumes. You are a true fool.

  • Ha Ha thats all the guy could think when he saw the car ..."Oh my god , there goes teds presidency".

    What a douche.

  • What does Obama read in his spare time? Go to my channel to find out. It might just scare you!

  • R.I.P. Mary Jo Kopechne, your murderer has finally been dealt with. R.I.P.

  • Mary Jo and her family are at the pearly gates denying Teddy entrance.

  • Rest in peace Mary Jo.

  • America after Obama election is becoming the garbage of the world .... all the illiterate, ignorant, arrogant, racist, haters are coming out of the graves to spit on a country in search of some dignity after the Iraq war. A country which has no more humanity, which despice a smart, educated and gentlman president who cares about everyboby and not only the corporations.

  • A country so masochist that believes the illegal aliens are the problem of everything while they give their entire salaries in the hands of the CEOs of the insurance companies who decide if they deserve a cure, who make you pay the entire mortgage of your house if you have cancer .... but they enjoy all your money in their golf courses in tens of millions of salaries and bonuses.

  • America the prostitute of the corporations where the more masochist you are the more you vote for those people who fuck you.

  • America is so narrowmided that worshipped Bush for 8 years and was rewarded with the worst economic crisis after 1930 and now believe they can get out of the shit in seven day with the help of God .... SO CHILDISH, SO SPOILED.

  • A country which lost its battle with other economies because of its arrogance and ignorance. Still the Americans, the zombies, are nostamgic of a past and are freaking scared and have no nuts to invest in their future. They would like to live in a cocoon and the call themselves capitalist? A country scared to invest money?

  • A country which is happy to waste money with Bush without any investment, just give aways for teh rich people but HAS NO NUTS TO INVEST TOGETHER AS A COUNTRY, NOT AS A SINGLE, IN SOMETHING BETTER FOR ALL EVEN IF IT MEANS SOME SACRIFICIES?

  • Yes, everybody closed in his cocoon of distrust, hatred, racism, homophobia and xenophobia eating transfat with 1/3 of the population obese and 2/3 overweight. Not even 10 years of therapy would help America to grow up into a responsible nation. A country so happy to remain a kid that see the world surpass them and blame the world because they are so spoiled they never blame themselves.

The zombies are back: the birthers, the death panels, the dead book, Glenn Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly, .....

  • Go back to bed idiot!

  • Mr.Freedomdemocracy, now there's an oxymoron for-ya.

Anyway I read your 1st comment, then just hit thumbs down on all the rest.

  • RIP Mary Jo......it seems the Kennedy name got him off. And the people of MA kept sending this man to Washington D.C. Now he can explain it St Peter......I wonder how that went?

  • i was able to vote in 3 senate elections that kennedy ran. the last 2 times he ran against token opposition that had no shot of getting even 40 percent of the vote. but i always voted against kennedy. the man was a hyopcrite, a liar,a booze hound, a womainzer, and a murderer. sadly my opinion isnt shared with most of my state

  • rot in hell you good for nothing liberal.

  • Ted Kennedy judgement day is here. You stole that poor girls life in 69. Forty years later its time to pay the price. Burn in Hell forever.

  • Why did he turn right?

  • I must say 51 seconds in on the video tell the whole story for me "I looked down and saw the car and the commotion down there and everything , and I thought Oh my god there goes Teds presidency" It seems obvious what happened. With that said he was still better than Michael Jackson and look how he was canonized after he overdosed...

  • vehicular manslaughter

    he was drunk... end

  • Obama lies

    Grandma dies

    Kennedy drives

    A woman dies

  • Buh Bye Chappaquidick ted.......

Justice finally caught up to him...

    40 years to late IMO.

  • Let's not forget the "gifts" of JFK, the whoring drug addict:

Cuban missile crisis -- total human extinction, stopped only by sound military minds who took over.

Bay of Pigs -- helping Castro set up and slaughter any remaining, freedom loving Cuban patriots.

  • yeah, a real "mystery"

  • Here's another Kennedy "gift": Sen. Edward M. Kennedy sponsored the Immigration & Nationality Act of 1965:

    "

. . . will not flood our cities with immigrants . . . will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area . . . will not upset the ethnic mix of our society . . . will not relax the standards of admission.

    "
