I went to so many devils rangers games at continental arena before they spent a trillion dollars on the rock and the place had about 10 ppl per section. I went to every rangers devils playoff game last yr and it was not all red...calgary Im sure is but THATS CANADA and this is NY which is the business capital of America not a hockey capital. Even if calgary is having a terrible season it is filled to the brim unlike most American teams. 2 yrs ago in continental there was 0 attendance

hockey is pretty popular in NY, not everyone is a rangers fan necessarily but it's still popular. New Jersey is the same. Only recently have they opened up new rinks, and the only reason they fill the stadium now is cause they spent millions on commercials, posters, promos, etc. to raise their fan base as well as moving outa continental arena. Of course there will be tons of fans if you make it to the finals, but if you compare any regular season game b/w 1994-2006 we always had more

no it's not. it's at the very bottom of the sports chain in new york . tennis is even bigger then hockey in N.Y. -- Have you ever seen a commercial with a hockey player in it? Now why do you believe that commercials and signs is representative of popularity? the amount of commercials for the rangers is few NOT because they are unpopular but because they do not have the funds to have tons of signs. go to Detroit and you'll see that there are not a lot of signs yet their fan base is huge.

when the rangers played in game 3 vs. vancouver in '94 finals, the Garden showed the game on the video screens. You'd never know it was a road game--Amirante, the crowd noise, Richter's save on Bure's penalty shot-felt like any other home playoff game. Even had the zamboni clean the ice between periods. No better place in the world to watch a sporting event and no better sporting event than Rangers playoff hockey!
