Morrowind has a specific culture that is unlike any other of it's kind, while Oblivion is a generic (albeit beautiful) fantasy world. Morrowind has a deep storyline that lacks predictability and varied characters, possesses difficulty, and does not hold your hand, and does not offer free fast travel.

People hate it solely for it's lack of hand-holding. I hear Skyrim is taking a similar approach as TES III.

Not really much animation here, just some nearly static "super hero" poses set to music. where's the believable transition from standing to walking to running frames? or the "i've had too many drinks at the tavern" family or animation sets? Or maybe just the bored shop keeper that perks up after you walk in? The annoyed Khajit who's tail starts to twitch when annoyed, or who shakes the water from their fur when they get wet? Animation is in the subtlety of life, not comic book poses.
