  • Love that sound!

  • Pretty sweet little AX84 HO amp. 6V6 is an order of magnitude cooler looking than an EL84, and has pretty similar specs so you don't need to change much to substitute it in if you prefer the tone. :)

JJ's 6V6S is contraversial as some say its more like a 6L6/6V6 hybrid than a 6V6GT, perhaps thats why someone posting thought it was a 6L6, but whatever, it sounds great.

I'm trying EL84, EL34, 6V6, 6L6 (all JJ) in my DIY amp (not AX84 design) to see what sounds best.

  • @mopheadthe3rd

if you go to the AX84 website, and then go to associate projects on the sidebar, you can see some other amps which are probably more suited for you.

  • Okay, the notes up there say 2 x 6V6 S JJ but the pictures are showing no such thing. That's single ended amp with one power tube. So what, exactly are we hearing?

  • you're right, i acutally meant 1 6v6 and 2 12ax7Wbs... my mistake

  • Hey, it sounds Great! I'm considering building one too. This vid is helping to convince me.

    Thanks!

  • I wanted to post the same as rotylee: I can see two 12ax7 / ecc83 and one 6V6^^ I'm gonna build that amp, too. At first with a el84 in the power amp and then I'll check all the Octal tubes^^ At first I worried about the frequency rating of the hammond 125ese., but I hear it works great :D

    Keep rockin'

  • One of bucketheads lesser known but great songs. Cool looking amp.

  • @guitarrulesall What song is it?

  • @Rullknufs Binge and Grab (instrumental version, i can't say i like the real version)

  • @wongsmokesbong Okay :)

I've actually listened some to Buckethead since i saw this video and he must be one of the world's best at what he is doing. Although 90% of his songs are all crap lol. But the ones that are good really are good aswell.

How much did that amplifier cost to build?

  • @Rullknufs it cost about $300 aud when i bought it, but it cost alot more cause I am in Australia and had to obtain parts from overseas (i remember the output transformer being particularly expensive/hard to get). It really depends on how easily/how cheaply you can find the parts.

  • thats definately a JJ 6L6GC by the way

  • 1 x (6v6 S JJ) and

    2 x (12ax7WB Sovtek)

  • i'm guessing you lernt the guitar from marty freidmans dvd(THANK YOU) where did you learn to make the amp

  • Ax84 website lol i forgot to put information in the description. I'lll do that.

  • thanks

  • 6v6 S JJ and 12ax7WB Sovtek

  • What tubes are you using? The driver tubes look russian and the output tube is obviously a JJ..but what type?
