The same motherboard i have on this computer i found, the bios can overclock it, but it hangs on 133/31 and 133/41 with spread spectrum at 0.50% giving it a max speed at 121/41 to be 496 MHz. I NEED to know if it's stable enough LOL (winxp hangs on this blasted machine and I tried for 6.5 hours to get it NOT to BSOD, but with no luck. I did get xubuntu to boot from it on a CD :D, it even detects not more than a 40GB HDD, using a 20GB one now.)

@monsi809203 It depends on the motherboard, compaq machines usually have their own bios and detect the CPU speed, making them difficult to overclock. You may have jumpers on the motherboard that can change the speed. 400Mhz should work, 450Mhz would probably be pushing it a tad but should be OK if your computer can run at that speed.
@HighTreason610 I saw the thingy that can change the speed. I also saw from the CPU cover that I can switch the speed up to 600MHz. Is that speed still safe? 'Cause I don't want our 10-year old computer to burn into bits. And also, is the tweaking of the speed switch safe? I'm dead if my parents and my brother would find out that I destroyed my PC.
@monsi809203 I wouldn't push it to 600Mhz, at least not for a lengthy amount of time, unless the cpu casing itself is what says that, in which case it's underclocked, but I doubt it as I don't remember the P2 going that high.
Overclocking is never technically safe, but if you don't tweak it too high then you should be able to get away with it providing your heatsink is clean and the fan on that is in good working order. Some systems refuse to boot if you set it too high until you put it back.

Don't worry, already savin for my next mahine, at present i am on a Pentium D, but my next machine is 2xQuad Xeon, 256Gb Ram and Quadro Plex, basically the non-cutdown equvelant of the system you suggested.
there's already something better, search for "Supermicro X8DTN+" this is the sort of board I am after, or maybe, i'd go for the Supermicro H8QM3-2, as you can see, 12 ram slots is behind the times, this is why I usually buy Server hardware, as for 7 PCI-E... that could be useful, I still like the Quadro Plex though.

If you edited the ocilator that must be connected to the PLL by raising the FSB also increased the frequency of the PCI bus? on the other hand I have a P3 1GHZ would like to overclock but the memory reaches a maximum of 144Mhz SDRAM maybe get to 150 mhz 3.3V increasing the line for this did a voltmod reaching 3.5V but it works much more unstable yet. Wanted to know if there is some method to stabilize the reports without reducing the frequency. Thanks

OMG, i just realised the last 30 or so seconds are missing from the end of the vid. i never noticed that. Well, basically the system was stuck back together and worked shakily - that was the missing end of the vid, in fact, the P2 still works to this day, and still smells of burning too.
its ultra overclocking 266 mhz to 990 mhz?im not sure of it(if you got a good motherboard).if you take too much of it your processor,RAM and whole system will be dead.Anyway overclocking too much is not a crime.XD
It works, i still use it, but if I put too much demand on (seems the L2 cache was damaged) it crashes the computer, still, it's good for playing with midi files, as there are three ISA slots (Awe-64, Scc-1 cards go in there) for my best sound cards with midi in/out. I have a couple more P2's anyhow.

Ya, it's the "Future Military" tune off duke 3D, but I nicked the MIDI and changed the instruments to drawbar organ and bagpipes. I think Duke Nukem is cool.

this guy doesnt fake this sort of stuff because i do actually know him personally but im not going to say anything more on what he does besides overclocking incase someone gets him done by the rozzers.
also if anyone try to get him done you have no proof of what i've mentioned so lol.
