Ha ha, no Lang Lang's playing didn't ruin my life but I was disappointed with this performance. Pulling emotional faces doesn't make him a sensitive musician, it just makes him a showman. I meant listen to Horowitz playing the same piece of music.

1) I have to say I admire Lang Lang a lot! He deceives millions and millions of deaf people in believing that he is actually a musician. Tomorrow he will perform in Brussels the Liszt piano concerto but I think I will stay home and wash my car. Besides I have tickets to hear Volodos perform the Liszt sonata in B minor next week, that should be interesting. Actually all of the recitals of Arcadi I have seen were marvellous, both live and on film.

People usually use a lot of reverb (or place the mics in distant positions) in orchestral sound mixes. I love this dry sound, you can hear every instrument right in front of your face.

i suggest listening to richter, gilels, horowitz and argerich, and after that, listen to this again and see the difference. these artists portray the russian soul of this magnificient piece and the're making music all over. this are musicians who play this music for the music's sake and nothing else.

especially in the sfz's at the beginning. maybe that's due to "Open-air"

i must really say that i clearly dislike this performance!

first of all, it seems all commercial.

"oh, take the introduction, because people know and like that theme and then add the octave-passage from the 3rd mvt that he can show that he can play fast octaves and end with the 3rd mvt's end, so you have a performance under 6 mins"
