1:50 is like full size humbucker pickup spost to lean like a tele bridge pickup does? i have a jackson guitar with that same problem it doen't level when i bring it up. "it leans backward )
is 2/32 too close with a guitar that has staggered poles pickups?. i can hear a loud wave on the 3th 4th 5th 6th strings when fretted and not open, "does that mean put a flatter pole piece set of pickup in my fender strat"
Billy- awesome lesson buddy; I just scooped up a Tele- pickups were a little too high when guitar was delivered to me and with your instruction was able to lower them both down to my sweet spot!! You rock, literally and figuratively!!! Take care my friend, Torrey Hecht
Thank you for a great turorial. How do I lower individual mics? The mic for my D-string is too high and too loud and there's no screw on the mic like on an Epiphone.
@MrNatashaRostov On a pickup like this you cannot adjust them. I suggest if you have a pickup with staggered polepieces to replace them with pickups that have flat polepieces. The volume response will likely be more even. -Billy
@MrNatashaRostov No problem. Glad I could help. I have a guitar set up guide ebook I'm releasing on September 15th that has more details about pickup adjustment and set up information. There are videos as well. -Billy
@smp5652 You can do it that way for sure....the measurement will be relative however. So in other words same end result with two different methods of doing it..!! -Billy
Not very informative if you're from outside the US. 3/32 seconds, what does that mean? Seconds, or do you mean inch or something else? I've no idea. Most parts of the world use the metric system you know.
2 christmases back, my pickguard came with a protective, sticky vinyl cover on it. I also took it off a while back, and some of the vinyl is stuck under the volume knobs.
Now I can still turn them, but it gets a little stiff to turn , which is annoying for volume swells and changes.
It's just making my guitar tacky looking up close. can you help me out here??
Matt- Thanks for the question! Take off the knobs. Then loosen the hex nuts so you can effectively remove all the plastic. Tighten them up and put the knobs on. You're good to go. If they still feel stiff then on your next string change take off the pickguard and spray out the pots. I use Caig Deoxit. Let me know how it goes! -Billy
How about a video showing how to solder in new pickups? I've got some strat & gibson style pickups I'd love to swap out,but I've never soldered, but I am handy. Cheers
I put that on my list of "Videos to shoot for people" and will get to it asap. Probably in the next week or so. NAMM is next week and I will be gearing up to cover that. Stay tuned and feel free to ask any questions!!! -Billy
You can do it this way but the way I show it in the video is the way I've been doing it for years and works great for me. Try it fretting the string at the highest fret and see what you think. Then try it the way I show it. Experiment and find what works best for you. Hit me back if you have any questions. I am happy to answer them! -Billy
The two screws go through the pickup bobbin, then two springs and screw directly into the wood. Very simple but effective design. Thanks for the question and please feel free to ask more! I am happy to help!
I would start with setting the high E side of the pickup at 3/32" and the low E side of the pickup at 1/16". This is a good place to start. You can then tweak each pickup from there. The Neck pickup may have to be set a bit lower particularly on teh low E side. Try it and post back. I will try to help as best as I can without being there.
Thank you for the help Billy. Since I play with 10.5s I adjusted every pickup @3/32" on both E strings and it didn't give me any buzzing on the neck. The sound isn't thin and wimpy anymore.
BTW- All of your videos are well made and I hope you know that they are very informative to everybody, including me. Great job!
Well, that I think is a personal preferance. I like to set all my pickups balanced. Maybe favoring the bridge pup a little bit. Experiment and see what works for you. Have fun!!!
Very helpful thank you

@Zigtoe 3/32"...that's inches. Use an online calculator to convert 3/32 to mm. I believe it is about 2.5mm. -Billy
insidedrivers 1 year ago
@Zigtoe multiply inches x 25.4 to get metric
3/32=.0937" (3 devided by 32) to get decimal point .9375"
.0937*25.4=2.381mm

I like to adjust the single coil closer to the strings, is that okay?
wisesatyr72 1 year ago
@wisesatyr72 I would not adjust them too close...it will reduce some sustain and squash tone... -Billy

@300guitars how exactly do you take of the knobs?
Skateronastick 1 year ago
@Skateronastick There is a set screw on each knob. Turn them counter clockwise and pull off the knobs..!! -Billy

I thought you were supposed to measure from bottom of the string to the top of the polepiece with the string fretted at the highest fret?
