  • Strong fucking triceps.

  • I love how so many people critique. Let me see you close grip bench as much as this guy does. It will probably never happen. Great job man!

  • too many haters, cant please everyone. great press. good form on the close grip dude

  • That was not exercise for triceps! It was for inner chest. To exercise triceps, you must hold both of yours arms into side of yours body.

  • nice form, nice grip, nice lift

  • thats strong as hell regardless I go alittle closer though I put my pinkie just inside where the bar goes from rough to smooth Im more comfortable that way

  • This is what you would absolutely call a close grip bench. I don't know what the argument is about here. Yeah okay his hands aren't two fucking inches apart, but there is no defined length to which you hands need to be spaced for the bench press to be called close grip; it is all relative to how wide your normal grip is. Ryan Kennelly used one hand width in from his normal grip to train his close grip.

  • @CronaciousD maybe bodybuilders have to use a 'narrower grip' i.e 8 inches or so....

    but bodybuilding is for pussies.

  • @CronaciousD and i dont know if you guys know who the guy is in the video. His name is Michael Keck. He not only writes on elitefts.com as a physique specialist, but he also holds the world record IPA raw total @242...

  • believe it or not.....this is the correct close grip bench press form...... any closer and you will fuck up your wrists and elbows in the long run

  • There are questions to whether this is a traditional "close grip bench" but either way, the guy controlled the weight well.

  • that was a great press

  • yeah that is no close grip i always put my little finger just where the bar goes from smooth to rough like in the video where his index fingers are thats where your little finger should be

  • what's the most effective for triceps?

  • well done

  • How close should the grip be? About the shoulder width?

  • @MetaIhead89 the closer you get the more triceps and inner chest but it also has to do with how comfortable it is. if it puts a huge strain on your triceps and hurts to do it then you widen your grip some. a few inches in grip from really close to pretty close is still going to work the same muscles either way. it just depends on how your body was built. thats what everybody always bitchin about form doesnt realize. we are all made different and can have a considerable difference in form.

  • you should keep ur arms tucked in fer close grip so it uses more triceps. you pretty much used half chest, half triceps. so ur triceps cant lift 465, sorry bro.

  • youll tear the shit outta your wrists trying to do close grip much closer than that... I know alot of you probably have your hands side by side "close gripping" 95 lbs - but thats why you have 14 inch arms. STOP HATE'N - THAT WAS BEAST

  • @heybuddy47 If you call what he did close grip then your a retard, im not saying have your hands touch but they should be no more than 4 inches apart, his hands was about 12 inch apart thats not a close grip thats basically a regular bench press, and yea i can only close grip 165lb and my arms are 18".

  • Strong lift!

  • that's not a close grip bench for tri's! that was just a flat bench press with a fairly narrow grip. either way, its a heavy lift.

  • hes wider tho so its pretty close for him

  • Good lift! but I wouldn't describe that as close grip

  • Awesome lift man, and without wraps too...pretty incredible

  • thats badass, and for all the haters out there, understand that if you try to do 3-6 inches apart with massive weight, you will break something. The whole point of a compound movement is to lift as much weight as possible over an isolation move, a close grip bench is simply a standard bench press with the grip moved in to stimulate the triceps to a greater degree than the chest.

  • @wickedblackcamaro

Thanks for posting this. I agree 100%.

  • oh yeah dude!@!@!@ hes totally fat dude yeah lets make fun of peoples weight cause we're so cool! oh man!!! Gee!! Shut your mouth you stupid scumbag, he just pressed 465lbs on bench, something you will probably never do.

  • @hunchback234 your an idiot - does it look like hes training for the fucking olympics.

  • Have to agree with Superbigjag here. The elbows should be close to your sides and his are not. Your upper arms nearly parallel as you come down with the bar. Its a great lift regardless but calling it a "close grip bench" is a stretch. HIs grip appears to be shoulder wide. Bravo though..nice lift

  • He's not fat at all. What are you on about?

  • My god that's amazing...I would be happy if I could bench 200pounds. I weigh 120 and I'm 5'7 15 years old.

  • Proper close gripping technique is placing your hands around 6-8 inches apart. Clearly this kid is a beast, but his hands are much further apart than that, looks like around 20 inches. in other words, this video isn't a real close grip because he is working more chest, anterior delts, and chest than a pure close grip tricep movement.

  • a grip 6-8 inches apart places your wrists and elbows in a very poor biomechanical position. You may be able to do that with 135lbs but at an appreciable level of weight, that close of a grip is a recipe for disaster. rest assured his triceps are taking a beating

  • Its all relative to the individual, I comfortably did 308lb for 5 reps close grip bench today; (not sure what the distance was between my hands but if I stuck my thumbs out they could almost touch) so saying its a lot of weight doesn't excuse that this guy is not doing a real close grip but a good lift none the less.

  • @Sim86 :

your numbers are good for a close grip but if you look at some of the major power lifters and those who train these lifters, a "regular" grip is considered a close grip to them. to bodybuilders its a little closer than that. Either one of them are close grips. However if you really read up on it, the correct position for your close grip is hands around shoulder width apart. if your thumbs almost touch then you're probably a bit too close and are hurting your wrists and elbows.

  • I train close grip exclusively when benching. I go 17-18 inches apart. Any closer is murder on the front delts. 16-18 inch range is ideal for tricep stimulation while keeping delts relaxed. My max is 340.

  • with any respectable ## that'd destroy your wrists and elbows. 14" is about as close as you should get generally.

  • Proper close gripping is not 6-8 inches apart. That will lead to incredible wrist problems and does not increase the effectiveness of the lift. A close grip bench is anything narrower than the width of your torso. Close grip bench is not a pure triceps movement anyway, it's a compound movement and no matter how you do it you use the chest and shoulders. If you want a pure triceps movement than do pushdowns or skull crushers. Close grips are a bench assistance exercise, not for isolation.

  • 465 is out of this world, but do a response with doing like 250lbs 20x and see what kind of responses that gets you, very impressive though man, keep it up, and i'm sure by now your even bigger than that.

  • idk im not that strong but i read somewhere that it is unnecassary to have your hands inside the angle of your should joint on close grip in that you get no added tricep isolation and you produce an unnecassary strain on your wrist.....just my two cents

  • thats exactly what it is- 2 cents. that was a great effort especially for his body weight. the only bitch i have is his partner put his hands on it b4 he was done. you can argue that he only put his hands around it without touching it but thats irrelevant in my eyes. great close gripping!

  • Amazing strength, I am fucking jealous! An for all the net Mr Miyagi's out thier, close grip is shoudler width apart grip, the fact you think you can go closer proves you move pussy weight, otherwsie you would know better!!!

  • Really? That is the only way I bench is close grip then. I have a hard time going wider than my shoulders and it feels unnatural to me.

  • why would you max out on close grip? I do them for tricep thickness and rep 365 for 5-6 reps. Never tried maxing out close grip.

  • You know it's funny, but I could have swore that this was HIS video, not yours.

Good God, you're not THAT important pal...

  • o wow

  • TO each his own on how close a grip should be. Some people get elbow or wrist problems if they grip too narrow... I like at least shoulder width for close grip.

  • Looks more like a normal bench with the grip a little more narrow than usual....but impressive weight nonetheless

  • Nice lift!

  • Awesome lift but if you're trying to hit the triceps when doing CG bench press you shouldn't roll youre shoulders back like you did because rolling your shoulders back like this will isolate your chest.

  • yeah i would say it is close grip but it is as wide as you can go maybe an inch and a half more narrow and it would be pure close grip

  • Not really...a pure close grip is hands at shoulder width...any close and you risk a wrist and or elbow injury...plus it doesnt do anymore for the tris when you go closer.

  • now thats impressive.. good job bro.

  • "close grip bench" is the very mm when your tri's become the primary muscle and your chest does not. That is a close grip bench, he's not at a power lifting comp. Did you take your dick length and multipy by 2 to get that number? I can't believe the amount of little boy haters on this video. It's big weight and a clean lift. Who gives a fuck if you buddy racks the bar for you? Morons. All this comin from punks who can't bench more than I can bi-curl. Awesome lift bud!

  • y call it close grip if its not close grip?? to me its mid grip. but stil...immense strength!

  • Holy Moses mother of dog!

  • shoot

  • tysonuk, thats a good grip, and if it works for u...keep doing it. most people dont use that close of a grip because it causes elbow problems..but if ur comfortable than its fine.

  • i got a question, i do my close grip, ALOT closer, hold your hands infront of you, just far away from each other with your thumbs just barely touching each other... that is my close grip... is that right? or wrong? i wont lie it works for me, and i got good triceps which i am happy with, but just wondering... anybody who knows this stuff care to write back please =)

  • You're a strong dude and could definitely get 450 without any help

  • thats good, i hate it when you can do the lift, and the spotter helps you out because its moving slowly

  • lol, you guys are crackin me up. yes that is in the midst of my bulk, so no...Im not very lean at this point. Im currently 7.5 weeks out from a BB show and will post a vid so you guys can see what I look like dieted down.

the lift was made, its clear to see that the spotter doesnt grab the bar until its time to rack it, his hands go under a bit early just in case something happens, but he didnt touch it. I dont count lifts where the bar is touched

  • fat shit

  • hes prob bulking plus go say that to his face

  • nice lift good weight speed

  • Thats very impressive. Ignore the retards who put you down they cant lift shit.

  • thats insane .......realy not bragging but i can only do 170 max of on rep and sets of ussually 135 of 8 reps and 150 of 8 reps and i way 140 any feed back go on just dont flame me??

  • Strong dude. But the lift was not made. You cant have a spotter touch and move the weight the bar and consider it a good lift. Weightlifting 101 brotha.

  • Thats not really close grip..

  • That is a powerlifting style close grip.

  • who gives a shit, that's pretty big weight

  • agreed. hes not even that fat, clearly off season if hes a bb.

  • Thats how I do my normal benchpress.

  • yeah what ever, people keeps chatting shit over the internet.

  • Im not saying weight wise fuck face, im saying form wise.

  • I'd hate to have your wrists if your close grip is closer than that.

  • Then you need to move your hands out farther.

  • Great technique.

  • it's a close grip it's still shoulder width...

  • thats not a very close grip gangsta

  • Huge weight. Great form. Notice how he doesnt bounce the weight nor lifts his but off the bench.

And i wish i had that spotter..perfect spotting

  • Wow spade you must be a complete bad ass. I bet you could do that 10 times if you wanted to. Everyone here envies your bodybuilding knowledge.

  • Goddamn man, that's fuckin diesel as hell. What can you hit for a max with a normal grip?

  • I think some these guys just noticing you bringing your elbows out a bit midway through the lift. With weight like that though I dont know anyone could do it any other way.

  • thats cg for him because his shoulders are so big, how much do you weigh apex?

  • wow

  • I mean, I could easily get on here and say "thats not close grip" like everyone else....

I will not say thats not close grip, but it sure as hell is closer to a bench press then a close grip considering this guys build. He is a rock, and he probbaly goes hardly any wider when he benches.

He beasted it, mad props. But if I want to workout triceps, I would go closer. If I wanted to put up 465 lbs and look like a bad ass, then I would do it like he did.

    Cannot deny its borderline.

  • well thats fucked i do 180kg bench press wide grip thats fucked im a pussy im going to fucking step up my game iv been on 180kg for 1 year now how do u get stroger help me

  • I thought close grip was when your hands had to be placed within the width of your shoulders, and then your elbows are brought down to your side.

I think your hands were the same width as your shoulders.

Doesn't matter, that's a LOT of weight regardless. Real nice lift :)

  • im a personal trainer and that is a a propa and safe way of doing the close grip bench press FACT. WELL DONE

  • id say its not close enough, but considering the weights he's lifting, its probs a sensible width

  • good working

  • insane

  • GTFO. i love youtube comments.

  • GTFO. i love Youtube comments...

  • Yeah it is retard.

  • well, since im the one doing the lifting.....for me it is close grip. My normal grip is much wider than that.

doing close grip with your hands much closer than shoulder width apart will lead to wrist, shoulder and elbow probelems if youre moving any appreciable amount of weight

  • thats close to me

  • Just occasionally the World Class experts on youtube put up videos of themselves. This is one of those rare occasions, you can see the kind of massive arms mcbain built with his years of experience close gripping correctly
