You are the right man Chuck, KISS, Keep it simple seaman, I have been using this self steering arrangement for a couple of years on my 20 ft boat, in Brazil. It steers on all courses, even when the wind comes form the stern, under gennaker !

I don't understand why many sailors use windvanes or electric steering devices. I use the system successfully even on my 13 ft daggerboard dinghy.
