@kegzasaurus If you're going to be pedantic at least get your facts right. Excluding their very early days with Eric Bell, Thin Lizzy were pretty much always 50% Irish, 25% American and 25% British - the British component being either Northern Irish (Gary Moore), Scottish (Brian Robertson, Midge Ure) or English (Snowy White, John Sykes). So stick those 24 thumbs up your paddy arse.
@lukemusic67 People get way too stupid about this. According to some of these jokers, is AC/DC not Aussie b/c most of the band members hail from Scotland? Is Tony Iommi not one of the the greatest British guitarists ever, because his parents are ethnically Italian? How about Brian Johnson? Is he not Scottish because his mom's Italian?
@decristo1021 - AC/DC renounced their aussie status as the oz government done everything to stop their style of music, which was encouraged in uk. If the founding members say the band is scottish i reckon it's their decision, same ges for TL - Irish band, always will be no matter how the line up changes!
@lukemusic67 - you forgot brazilian then you dumbass. Thin Lizzy are an Irish band same as Sex Pistols are british, end of, stop being a douchebag - HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
@cisco9x What? Thin Lizzy and The Sex Pistols? Thin Lizzy were and are more Irish than The Dubliners and the Sex Pistols were a massively anti British band.
Thin Lizzy were respected among the punk community which is quite something as punks despised & rebelled against most rock bands. That's how powerful the mighty Thin Lizzy were, are and always will be. Thin Lizzy until I die!
I had never even heard of this til today, and I love both Lizzy and the Pistols. This just further confirms my belief that the whole "punk" thing was never anything other than primitive rock at first. I love Paul and Steve and think the Professional's album is awesome. Same with Paul and Steve's playing on Johnny Thunders' So Alone sol album, which as we all know featured Phil and Steve Marriot on one tune.
Much better quality than my old Betamax copy! Such a great track; it's just good rockin' fun. The cover by the Pretty Maids is great too - they play it in the same vein; no jazzing it up or embellishing it, just played as a good rockin' cover.
i <3 it when the irish get defensive ...but all in all they are are right thin lizzy is irish and therefore will always = awsome ( and im welsh/irish ) \m/
3 founding members were all Irishmen you bunch of idiots. Their songs were based on ancient Irish legends and growing up in Ireland. Typical of brits to claim what they like about Ireland as theirs! Go and fuck yourselves, thats my concluding statement.
@kegzasaurus so true my man a proper Irish band , i now eric`s got is own stuff now and brian still does the lizzy stuff, Phil my friend is sadly missed when i was 14 and i heard these guys i thought these fuckers are going places and when gary joined lets do it. Anybody into rock will tell you the finest rock band to come out of Ireland.
@stratabacca Phil Lynott was not English! Why dont ye read up on him. He was born there only because Ireland was a strict Catholic country and his mother was pregnant and un married. Dont insult the man!
British, Irish...Lizzy were an international phenomenon! (Though I have always regarded Lizzy as Irish, and I am a proud Englishman). God Rest Phil, and God bless you all at Christmas! Lets all always enjoy the talent of this remarkable bass player.
Lynott was born in Hallam Hospital (now Sandwell General Hospital) in West Bromwich (then in Staffordshire), England, and christened at St. Edwards Church in Selly Park, Birmingham.
@kegzasaurus except Brian Robertson who was Scottish , Snowy White who was English as was John Sykes and Darren Wharton and not forgetting Scott Gorman who was American. Otherwise they were an Irish band.
@45rpmSINGLES and any other doubters - "Thin Lizzy are an Irish hard rock band who formed in Dublin, Ireland, in 1969. The two founding members, drummer Brian Downey and bass guitarist/vocalist Phil Lynott met ..."
From Wikipedia. I was just clearing up a little error and not intended to offend anyone. If I had said 'best of Irish' I am quite sure you would have retaliated even though I could claim Johnny Rotten was Irish, blah, blah, blah...
@legindyoll - Yes sir, like I say, not starting a political discussion, just clearing up a little error. Both great bands regardless. Happy Christmas all.
This is an awesome song. What's wrong with having a little fun with a classic? LOVE Thin Lizzy and the Sex Pistols both!! After all, not every band is the Beatles.
Why are we watching a Christmas video in Sept? I'm watching for the musicianship of Thin Lizzy and of Cook and Jones but why are you watching this way before Christmas?
backsreett girls..!`?i have done some serious party party with bjørn muller.great guy!and.,of course fro fredrikstad.:)but phils voice and tight riff makes this song better than backstrees version.but of course.,backsreet plays hardcore boogie,so this version is another story.
