I am going to have to agree with Kevin completely. This technology will not be compatible with current devices. Other companies will have to make devices specifically compatible with Surface. I doubt it would be able to read current credit cards, so new types of them would need to be created. I do not believe Kevin is saying those things because it is Microsoft, he is saying it because this technology will not be out for at least a couple more years. The iPhone is a clear example of how multi-touch should begin to be implemented into devices and computers. Just watching the video of Bill Gates show us paint and how the photos spill out so you have to arrange them show how bad of an execution of multi-touch that MS did. The iPhone however is a here and now example that people can get accustomed to and pretty soon with the experience that Apple has gain from the iPhone, they can but together an OS, in some years, that will be ready for multi.

Surface does exist, but Kevin is making a good point. There are no devices that support the surface machine yet. Credit cards, phones, cameras: none exist that do this now. The table itself uses cameras to recognize optical things on the back of such devices.

put the wifi/bluetooth device on the surface at first, pairing the wifi/bluetooth and at the same time, the 5 cameras of the surface will "regonize and memorize" the object, save it into its "device management database", and next time you put the object onto the surface, it'll be regonized by the cameras and the BT/wifi will try to connect to the device. it should work, not as fast as the demo shows, but in about 15 seconds, the device should be regonized by the surface.
