  • In this video it's hard to keep eye contact. It's like she is peering into my soul. Her eyes are very beautiful but they are a little spooky, well dam I don't know how to explain it. Maybe this is the reason that some people say don't make eye contact. My X GF had the same looking eyes, but she was evil. I'm in no way saying that Sarah is that love all her music.

  • We do ab workouts to this song in dance class, and when she sings, "this is gonna hurt like hell". She's right.

  • Sarah peaked in the early to mid 90s.

  • Hurts, to close to home...I wonder...will I ever get it?

  • You will always still be there, hauntinh me, like through my whole life!Rod,...

  • i am baffled by these triple repetitions, it is not me but YouTube system itself, while i was posting the previous comment i had TWO ERROR messages so i canceled twice and posted the third one, now i see a triple repetition...go figure...

  • check out tabitha streets arms of an angel

  • 'Hold on to yourself this is going to hurt like hell" The best line ever in a song!!!

  • sooo good

  • Sarah in this video looks like the kind of a woman you wouldn't want to hurt - out of loving tenderness, but also out of fear that she'd rip your heart out in a snarling frenzy :)

  • WOW!!!!!

  • gorgeousssss make me cry :( lol

  • A. MAY. ZING. not just in this song, but in this song as typically she is.... and in my opinion, as more amazing she is as a human. We are all great.. but Sarah excels beyond mere mortals. She is an angel and a demigoddess.

  • I love Sarah.. I mean LOVE.. but I really think I like the live version from Mirrorball a bit better.. there is a lot more emotion to it.. this feels way too upbeat for what the words are putting across. I still Love it though.. maybe Mirrorball just spoiled me ^.^

  • I love the song but not the video it freaks me out....

  • grosaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

  • sos una grosa!

  • hermosaaaaa te amo sarah

  • Sarah's music got me through tough times in the past. Thanks

  • Sarah definitely feels these lyrics, you can tell by (among other expressions) the mirthless half-smirk - takes some real bitter sardonic desperation to pull one of those -

  • this place is neither heaven or hell

    this place is called earth

    this place is alive

  • @RightfullyReticent A dying person with loving people around is definitely better than a living but lonely person.. A long and lonely life can be very painful.. Trust me :)

  • Such a beautiful song by a beautiful woman. Her songs have meaning and substance to them. They are built with skin, muscle, and bones. The real deal

  • A stunning beauty.

  • She is so hot, and the song has meaning...

  • and yet another link to death...

  • hold on to ur self cuz this is gonna hurt like hell !

  • "Hold On" got me through my divorce in 2001. That's when my world was opened up to Sarah and I've never looked back. She is an absolutely amazing talent, artist, and all around fantastic person. I hope to meet her some day if just for a second to say Thank You for all the wonderfulness she has brought into my life.

  • @czarman01 YES,I WANT THE SAME BECAUSE HER MUSIC IS THE SOUNDTRACK OF MY INNER LIFE EVER

  • I've had several botched suicide attempts after I left my life behind. I was emotional and depressed and I was in love. :/ I cut all my hair off and I threw myself down the stairs, took sleeping pills, but I'm here and I'm so, so sad, but I know I gotta move on. The only thing I have left is my new boyfriend, Hayden. <3

  • מדהים מדהים הלוואי ושרה תופיע בישראל :-)

  • this song reminds me of my sister that died because of alcoholism. this song means the most to me, when she left me to be with nadoosi and i am sure there are people out there that have the same remembrance of someone they lost

  • @xXxChiefGurlxXx I near died from drink muliple times. Im glad Im not laying on my apt floor filled with booze and pills, not caring about being alone.

  • Peace!!!!

  • hi everyone!!!! loll

My friend and I came up with a song called "Keep on" & "house of roses" and I was kinda hoping I could get some views and some feedback from all youtubers out there. It would REALLY mean a lot ;) thanks

  • Hmm... Not bad, but I like the original version far more than this remix.

  • @CmdrGendoIkari This is the original version. The longer version on The Freedom Sessions album is the remix.

  • @turfturbo - This was on the Mirrorball album, which was where I first heard it. Whether that came first or not, I much prefer that Mirrorball version over this one.

  • yes she makes great vidios to bad the ones now are just no comparison.they have crap vidios ,,i fell sorry if you notice a lot of the songs have the same sounds ..and all the nnudity is getting boring,,

  • "Hold on. Hold onto yourself. For this is going to hurt like hell" Best opening lines of a song ever. Very powerful all the way through.

  • This is a beautiful song as is the video, as all of Sarah's songs!!! Anyone that thinks the song sucks is a complete moron with bad hearing........

  • Love it :)

  • Great song

  • sarah knows how to make you feel and understand the emotions of all her songs

  • Comment removed

  • Shit and fuck, this song is so sad x-(

  • this is a BEAUTIFUL song.. i LOVE the afterglow live version

  • I may have never lost anyone, but I dont see why I would have to to really understand and feel the power and meaning in this song. I love it.

  • love how the song is redone in mirrorball...more emotional....and very strong indeed!

  • Pretty song! For people who don't like it, you all are just of docefags.

  • LIVING THE LIFE OF WATCHING DEATH COME TO SOMEONE SPECIAL , HORRIBLE AND IT HAUNTS YOU FOREVER, NEVER GOES AWAY! NO WORDS CAN EXPRESS THESE SONG EXSPRESS JUST THAT! BEAUTIFUL AND OUTSPOKEN!

  • If you have ever lost someone you love, this song strikes right to the heart and soul. If you haven't -- you won't get it.

  • great song

  • who says this song sucks? Go die in some hole

  • Sometimes it feels real, sometimes, not, but I wake each day, and again, it begins anew

  • Actually, she wrote it after watching a movie about a woman whos husband was dying of AIDS... ;o)

  • <3 this song but the video sucks

  • @nycait882006 so much hate on your end. Peace to you.

  • @nycait882006 maybe you'd like to see me sitting beside my wife's hospital bed. I'd rather see loss portrayed a little more artisticly

  • I love the way her eyes look into you in this video.

  • i thought this song was about the man she loved leaving and going somewhere the next day, so she stayed with him, so i would sing it at night as a prayer to the man i love! now that i know it's about that!...that kind of makes the song better!

  • she is so beautiful... i love her voice, this song and the video!

  • I wanna hear Sarah sing Roll Out The Barrel.

  • all i have to say is noones better where they have that urge to be criticall about honest music or or and people bein honest

  • I wish this was the album version of the music. the bass is way too loud and the vocals are way too low.

  • took almost 17 years but this songs really good. Great era for music

  • @KillingJoke696 Faggot.

  • most beautiful.... intense....deep..... song...ever...

this song takes your breath away every time......

  • beautiful song :D

  • This song capture's all my fealing in one little box and make me confused, such a nice song!

  • Hold on... don't fall... hold on...

I dedicate this song to my uncle Jim. Hold on, Jim... you can do it... please, Jim... I love you... don't do this, don't hurt someone... please, I love you, I really do...

  • This was one of the first songs I heard when I finally got into music again after my father's suicide. It made me re-live breaking the news to my 3 younger brothers. It moved me to tears and yet was comforting at the same time with the "we'll get through this" attitude. I haven't heard it in so long; it just made me tear up again listening to it here. Thanks for sharing :)

  • good thing u re-gathered urself for a brighter side of life...:)

    Thanks to Sarah.

do listen to "Out of shadows" by her....heard it Pandora, simply fell in love with it

  • wow! that was brave of you to share that !...good luck to you, I'm humbled!

  • I first heard this on Crossing Jordan and I was like "OMFG THAT'S SARAH!" so I found the song and gave it a full listen and it's sooooo prettyyy! I <3 Sarah!

  • Which album is this version from? I've heard the Mirrorball version, and it sounds much different than this one.

  • @chimchim22

Fumbling Toward Ecstasy is the album, the album that introduced me to Sarah McLachlan

  • Sarah is such an amazing artist. Everything she creates is just pure, beautiful art.

  • I agree 2200%. :)

  • lol........do u notice that there are so little canadian singers that when people think they are good, they are say they are good candians, but when an american is good, u never hear he/she is a good american singer

  • I dedicate this song to the victims of the earthquakes in Haiti...

We must hold on and pray 4 a better!

  • hold on yes, pray.....no

  • Amen, my friend. Amen!

  • Even though my prominent lines of dance motion are breaking oriented, this song makes me want to work on my contemporary lines. Such a pretty song... =)

  • Beautifull, Sarah. My sagrad heart is conecction whith you

  • GOOD DAY

  • This is the era of hers I really liked.

  • goooood heavens she's beautiful!.. amazing voice.. nothing beats her voice.. tallanted canadiaaan BYAAAAAAAAAAHHH!

  • i love love love love love this song :) i love the bit at the end when it says hold on, hold on to yourself, for this is gunna hurt like hell.. it just hits me straight in the heart :')

  • Wow, I LOVE this song. :)... I'm 23 and have loved Sarah since I was 12 and heard Surfacing. :) Her songs now, are far more powerful and personal to me and my "story" now...She's been really helping me get my life back on track. Thanks. Peace. :)

  • Me too Stevie! I feel the same way! I'm also 23 and all of Sarah's music just speaks to me so much more now that I've grown up with her.

  • i love this video and song. its helping now in a difficult time in my life

  • i hate this version. i think the live version is alot better. i love the live version.

  • I love that you can just see the emotion in her expressions as she's singing, and you can hear it in the music too!

  • I love the story behind this song...She was watching a documentory on this couple from canada. This woman found out her boyfriend was HIV+ and decided that she loved him enough that she would stay with him and fight it together...they got married and she watched him grow weaker everyday...till finally years later he died...and Sarah wrote this song out of the emotion the show gave her....

  • EmpressOrchid,

    Thank you for sharing.

I remember breaking up with someone, and my heart was broken, and this was the album I listened to. Because men look to cry harder, believe it or not. Hold On is such an amazing song.

  • @EmpressOrchid I never knew that thank you for sharing.

  • @EmpressOrchid Link me to dat show plox

  • @EmpressOrchid and THAT is why Sarah is a Godess among the rough

  • @EmpressOrchid Thank you so much for the back ground on this song. It means so much more

  • i think this song is so powerfull and deep. When u don't have any hope....any power to go on...hold on. U have to! And i think you'll make it only if you really want to and you really belive in what you're proposing to yourself

  • this song has put a mark on me and taught me that love hurts so badly that sometimes you can barely handle it, but yet there is hope thanks for existing sara

  • do you know how she thought this song up...its kinda sad but beautiful...

  • Well life / love are not here to be owned or controlled.

Pain comes in trying to grasp what was meant to be only experienced and shared for its given time. Like a false religion will have you search for God outside of you or through them:

Many people also search outside of themselves for love, before forgiving themselves and others and looking deep within for what has always been..

  • That is absolutly beautiful what you wrote, i really apreciate it! :)

  • Simply magic... as the whole fumbling project!

  • This was my first time hearing the real version of this song...and I don't care for it.

I love the one from Mirrorball. So much more emotion in it.

  • Her song FALLEN is better id say

  • She could fart any verse of the Bible or the Koran, and I'd still pay $80 to sit in the nosebleed section with obstructed view, cause I'm certain it would be in perfect pitch and tone.

  • Well I like this song and I actually prefer this version. It's different, but I think it's good.

  • not nearly as good as the live version

  • This song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it

  • This is, in my opinion, the best Sarah song of all. so powerful, so direct. i was quite young when this came out and I painted the lyrics on my wall in my first apartment. I had recently lost a sister and this song really helped me see that there is more to life than this.

  • I just wanted to respond to the people who say this song sucks. This was written for a friend who's husband was dying of Aids. The lyrics are powerfully emotional and they got me through many a night when my sister lay dying. Awesome song, awesome thought. Kudos

  • @blairtulsa7

This is a fabulous song. those who don't like it are just idiots.

  • @blairtulsa7 This is truly one of the most beautiful songs ever !! Those who dissagree are idiots.. ;)

  • @blairtulsa7 Wow, that had to be so hard for you. I love this song. I understand how difficult that had to be for you. Thank you for sharing in a most difficult time. I agree how powerful the lyrics are. Hope all is well with u now... I know it hurts. But it does get better

  • to answer celticdrw, Sarah has stated many times in her career that she is a lifelong agnostic with a catholic upbringing and is raising her children agnostically, teaching themof all religions and allowing them to make their own decisions later, her soon to be ex-husband Ashwin Sood is an atheist with a jewish upbringing

  • @kisscatastrophe I have never heard of Sarah being raised Catholic, nor is her former husband Jewish. He was raised Hindu and I have no idea if he is involved in the faith or not.

  • She has an amazing voice.... I can't belive she wrote the lyrics herself... more amazing is what inspired her to do so :)

  • HEY!! Who the fuck cares!!ONE CELT FINUCHIAN!!

  • Well, sorry! I'm just curiousity! She is so cute!

  • I love this new mix of this classic song from Sarah..the words are amazing!!

  • While this isn't Sarah's best video, it is one of her greatest songs. Ita actually on the new CD Closer that she's putting out for her greatest hits. Try to listen to the song without watching the video. Its about her friend losing a battle to AIDS and how they are thankful for everyday he survives.

  • If you normally like Sarah but don't particularly like this song it might just be this version (which is the original). She significantly improved it in her live version from the album Mirrorball.

  • Lmfao!!

  • Dude, it gets worse: just returned from 9 years in Australia, where even the women think the pc/pseudo-feminist overload here is nonsense. Already ran into so much anger-aggression.

Have you ever heard the Zen riddle: if a man's walking in a forest and says something, and there isn't a woman around to hear, is he still wrong?

A couple of chicks here got pissed off at me for that one. So I told 'em this one:

"How many feminists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

    [answer:]THAT'S NOT FUNNY!!!"

  • Thanks

  • To DrHMFIC: This song is not about male bashing, it is about a woman who is losing her husband to a terminal disease. She needs to "hold on" because it is going to hurt like hell.

Also, this is not the best version of the song. Search for it on youtube under the Mirrorball tour. That version is the most beautiful and melodic. I agree the Cirque performances were kind of freaky.

  • Well, I lasted for an entire two tortuous minutes of this horseshit before bailing, and I think that's pretty damn good.

I shall now attempt to get over the pain by shoving some razor wire up my ass as a diversion.

It is many things, this video - but mostly it's a turd masquerading as a video.

  • Media is metaphor. It is many things, this video. Pure magic. Amazing composition of visual and musical rhetoric. Lovely, sad, strong, hopeful.

  • I totally agree; both the video and the song is a classic work of art.

  • She's back?

  • lol nice

  • A beautiful song, Sarah.

    ~David
