Man, i love my Jekyll and Hyde, when staked it with my Timmy it sounds even greater! Love visual sound..got the VS Volume Pedal, the Comp 66 and the J&H on my pedalboard.
I got my route 808 in a sweet ebay bundle with a pedal board, power supply, vox standard wah, bb preamp, boss tuner, and a bunch of cables. This pedal was a big surprise and I loved it instantly
How does the circuitry/sound of the 808 side of the Jekyll & Hyde V1 red differ from the V2? I know that the V1 is true bypass, and the V2 is buffered, but apart from that is there any differences?
I know people all over is going to scald me for this , but the klon centaur sucks , it always sucks and I couldn't wait to get rid of it . There is tons of pedals out there that sounds 10 times better than the Klon . This is a great lesson for the pedal snobs out there .
How I know that you didn't just mess with the tone knobs on the pedals? Yes, gain and volume levels matter, but so do the tone knobs. Hence maybe why the VS 808 had more low end.
No messing with the knobs... the VS Rt. 808 has a tone knob and bass boost so that you can dial back in what get's lost in most overdrives. Plus it has a great gain than most overdrives. But the proof is in the hearing, Go to a store and hear it for yourself. Then you can make your own conclusions...
the overdrive side of the jekyll and hyde IS in fact a TS808 clone, but it IS somehow better. i have '79 TS808 and a jekyll and hyde. i compare both pedals in every setting possible, the jekyll and hyde wins EVERY time :)
I bought this pedal today and this thing is incredible! it has brought my single coil strat to life! I a/b'd it against a boutique 808 clone and it killed it! You should hear how good this sounds with a strat plugged into a Traynor Darkhorse mini stack! Way to go Visual Sound, I have you Angry Fuzz too and I WILL be buying more of your pedals for sure!
I own a Route 66 V2 and a Klon Centaur and I like them both for what they do. However they do not sound at all similar to me and they have different strengths and uses. Setting them to sound the same is not the way to use either of them in my opinion so I call BS on that front. They are both good pedals though.
i went with a Route 66 dual pedal into the Jeykl & Hyde dual pedal. Having two of these ODs rigged before and after Dist and also being able to create complex stacks has taken me into realms I had not explored. This OD is really musical, it has a liveness and feel to it. I think is better than the green cheese versions that are all good, Keeley really improving them but the VS is very impressive for the bucks. It is not a Hermida but that is twice the cost. The VS v2 dual pedals are really good.
I like this shootout better than the distortion one as they pedals are more tuned closer, in reality there should not be much difference in the tones. This shows where the subtle makes the difference in taste of the sound, same with Compressors, very hard to discern differences, it is very minute. An OD can also be good lightly edged and hard edged, the VS OD has a lot of range, better than any TS model, more vol and a internal adj bass boost. I think the Klon is better than it seems here.
The bass boost on this pedal adds a lot to the sound. Its the same overdrive as the Route 66. the comp side of the route 66 works great as a slow boost with the OD side.
Bob, your company makes fantastic products. I recently A/Bed my Maxon OD808 against the Route 808 and it was splendid for less than half of what my Maxon cost me.
That's true. He did use both as they were released. You can see this in the American Caravan DVD. You get a really clear shot of that pedal. Then, in other DVD's of SRV you can see glimpses of the opposite pedal.
Great stuff, I agree with yaksox thought it was a little hard to follow, maybe some annotations to go with it if the cam is not pointed on you in the booth?
Amazing! I´m sold!

This dude is selling me on pedals that I already love. I think searching for a "better" 808 clone is like pissing money down a drain after tonight.

@katarzis27 I know, right? It's about time a company--ANY company--did that.

Hardly hear differences in this one..

i wish you had included the zendrive, at least (to me) its just not the standard ts sound.
with that said, the visual sound was my favorite, followed by the ts9 and then the fulltone and the klon were tied.

great video. i was suprised to hear the differences (and the, ummm..... not differences? haha).
i tell you what, if and when i decide to get ever buy another OD pedal, it will more than likely be the Visual Sound.

you probably need to play and feeling note respond too. These pedals do respond to your pick differently ...

did steve ray use a ts 808 or a ts9??
highsociey 2 years ago
i believe he used both, but im positive the 808 was his main pedal, he used it as a solo boost
