this is a major load of bologna, i work on a farm like this and we would lose our job if we treat them wrong, like these people, you guys are generalizing what people do. and if we didnt feed them "aka" why they are fat, then you guys would come after us because we are treating them wrong, humans need natural protien to live, and if you try to shut dwn turkey farms like this thousands of people would lose thier jobs, and there would be lots of sick people.
In some aspects you are right, but perhaps a revision of method is necessary? We should give them more room to move around in and change the ways that we handle turkeys. Even if they are food, we shouldn't give them a life of hell before the plate. At least let them be regular acting animals.

Secondly, I think people like you have no room to complain until every person on earth can have three square meals a day. Why should people starve because you don't like to see how your food is made.

You forget that humans are omnivores, we need to have animal protein as part of our diet. You may have chosen to not eat animal protein, but it is necessary for a healthy diet. Animal protein is an important source of vitamin a, b, iron, and fats needed by our bodies. This can lead to metabolic issues, anemia and worse health issues.

In some aspects you are right, but perhaps a revision of method is necessary? We should give them more room to move around in and change the ways that we handle turkeys. Even if they are food, we shouldn't give them a life of hell before the plate. At least let them be regular acting animals.

The problem is the amount of people eating these turkeys. Some of these farms are feeding within a certain sector of the nation. There's just too much demand for: beef, chicken, turkey, milk etc...
If you want to eat turkey, then raise one and clean it yourself, I guarantee you it'll be healthier.

I cannot believe how fat those ugly turkey hens have become. Still, for those who want to get on their "high horse" about the rough conditions for these fat turkeys, I'd suggest doing something about it and not just complaining about it.
Fat turkey hens WILL end up in the oven. However, they can be purchased for rescue. Any volunteers? I doubt it. Who is building shelters one by one and then paying a staff of folks to just babysit fat turkey hens? No one I can name. Bye to fat turkeys.

Turkeys raised today in the tens of thousands on over crowded, filthy factory farms are susceptible to infections, such as salmonella where the disease can easily spread. Methods used to artificially inseminate turkeys help to spread salmonella. When we are removed from the daily process of agriculture, it leaves too many opportunities for its manipulation.

Secondly, I think people like you have no room to complain until every person on earth can have three square meals a day. Why should people starve because you don't like to see how your food is made.

You forget that humans are omnivores, we need to have animal protein as part of our diet. You may have chosen to not eat animal protein, but it is necessary for a healthy diet. Animal protein is an important source of vitamin a, b, iron, and fats needed by our bodies. This can lead to metabolic issues, anemia and worse health issues.

Humans are opportunistic eaters. Just because we can survive on a meat-based diet doesn't mean we should, especially when you take a look at the effects it has on the environment and our health. Animal protein is far from necessary for a healthy diet. Actually, the consumption of animal fats and protein is linked to heart disease, colon cancer, diabetes, kidney disease, hypertension, and obesity, just to name a few. There is a healthy non-animal source for every nutrient you mentioned.

I am a second year PharmD, as part of my Physiology classes I had to take to get into that program study human nutrition. We need certain nutrients which are body can not naturally synthesize one is vitamin C (Plant based), and Vitamin e, b, a, which are all animal based. Along with Iron which we get the bulk of from meat.

A 1/2 cup of cooked carrots has 205% DV of vitamin A, an ounce of almonds has 24% DV of vitamin E, potatoes have around 30% DV of vitamin B, and beans are filled with protein and iron. There is absolutely nothing that comes from animals we can't get from a healthier alternative. Even the ADA's position is that plant-based diets are healthy and nutritionally adequate. Just because we CAN eat meat, doesn't mean when should.

As for vitamins, nuts and soya products are a exellent substitute for meat.. Ive been a vegetarian for years and have never needed extra vitamin tablets or anything . Infact I very rarely get sick since Ive been a vegetarian.
The best part about being vegetarian is you know your making a difference. (maybe not much, but some)
