It is frightening, and sickening, actually, to see how casually these young people were mauled & manhandled by the police. And not just by the police but also by the organizers, who are clearly pushing people. To me, this is just more evidence that Harper is bad news. He spreads bad vibes. The courage of these young protesters is self-evident--and stands in stark contrast to Harper's own low, sneaky deviousness. Heaven help us, if this creep gets a majority.
@xtfcr7 Yeah you're right. He got a majority of seats but 60% of us didn't vote for him. Imagine that. We need to start a new centre-left movement. We need to DEMAND that the LIberals & NDP unite & go after Harper. We need to get him out, get what will be left of our country back from the Tories & bring in proportional representation IMMEDIATELY. After that, if the Liberals & NDP want to get a divorce, fine. But 60% of us should not be held hostage by Harper's phony majority.
Stephen Harper has attended meetings and signed into agreements concerning the North American Union. Stephen Harper refuses transparency on these issues and Global Governance.
Democracy: where 51% take the rights from the other 49%.
I get the liberal negativity on Iraq, but I don't understand the far left filth position on Afghanistan. For some reason, the far left excrement were even against the Afghanistan war as if, after 9/11, the West wasn't going to go after the terrorists' main base there. The far left scum are despicable, horrible human beings who never lift a finger to defend democracy and in fact spend most of their useless, worthless lives praising dictatorships and attacking democratically elected leaders
@RuflessRecords Listen to the Conservative rhetoric these days...blaming the war on Afghanistan on the Liberal Party.. This is what your stupid partisan rhetoric amounts to. With the budget crunches these days, almost everyone with a brain, in both the Canada and the US is questioning this war. Why did Bush not just do a surgical strike and deal with Bin Laden??, rather than create a totally unneeded war. Explain yourself now....2 years later...
@RuflessRecords Speaking of dictatorships, how about China, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Bahrain, Syria? You gonna have a war with them too??...all in defense of democracy?? Go ahead and do it. I will watch as an interested spectator, as you trash yourself and the rest of us. DId you like how the Bin Ladens got special rights to fly when the rest of us were grounded after 9/11? That was nice of Bush, wasn't it?? Where's your consistency in your argument? Explain yourself.
@RuflessRecords Oh and did you like the US Liberty Act in the 90's that was out to punish us for having business in Cuba?? Alot of good that did eh! if you supported the US on that one, then how about Canada and the US sucking up to trade with China and Saudi Arabla (esp the US). Nice contradiction eh?? Why don't we end all immigration and money coming in from China, just to satisfy you?
At least we have a Conservative PM to protest. A Liberal PM would have had that guy pepper-sprayed and then had the caucus laugh about it in the House of Commons.
Are Canadian Troops getting a raw deal? Any Army worth its weight commonly rotates Sections, Companies and Battalions not just for rest but to ensure standard fighting ability is maintained. This rule flies in the face of what our Government thinks about our role in NATO. Why are Canadians allowing it?
Atleast they have the right to protest, if he were under taliban rule he would be dead. How can you judge a deployment without facts ill never understand this, screeming world peace from a safe office building in canada does not achive it . People relate Afganistan and Iraq too much, they are too verry different wars.
Canada is moving towards totalitarianism. Jaggi is a pro-democracy activist trying to prevent us from going in the direction of Nazism, Stalinism, etc. Harper is taking us in that direction with his militiarism, authoritarianism, and police state tactics. If Jaggi were in Nazi Germany he'd do the same thing and be punished there as well. The only reason they don't murder activists en masse with impunity is because they wouldn't get away with it.
Actually It's the Liberal Party philosophy that is more akin to National Socialism. Trudeau tried to apply the idea of state religion to Canada thankfully he failed.
Yo pyork2007. Dang dude just because were advancing are military does not mean were headed the way of the Nazi's, go read a book or something. How long did Canada take to give aid to those tsunami victims we had to first rent aircraft because our transport aircraft were too small were too small, when we had Canadian citizens in the heart of the Israel, Lebanon conflict we had to charter boats to pull them out of the country, umm issues if we cant protect our own citizens.
Another response to pyork2007. So when your stuck on your roof for a week from flooding, you can think back why did I not support more funding for choppers, boats and personal. It's funny how trolls like you just speculate, talk shit, and complain. Ever since Harper took control our economy has been booming our Canadian dollar is up, correct me if I'm wrong but I think I remember seeing on the news unemployment dropping. So please give me some facts.
Again to pyork2007. A few new choppers, transport aircraft, northern navel ships (also used for search and rescue), some equipment and kit for the people giving their lives for their country. Please, I dare you to go up to a soldier and say you do not deserve that armoured car, or artillery support.
Wrong, they man-handled everyone - but escorted them outside - they took the Indian into the bathroom and shut the door after cuffing him, yet not arresting him. He was probably the most articulate protester there. Poor bastard probably got his ass beat in that bathroom.
unfortunately, that wasn't the case. that was jaggi singh, canada's most widely known professional protester, "anarchist", and anti-everything dude. the guy could use a beating, having grown up a spoiled rotten silver-spoon-fed bitch, but if the cops dared, he would have cried "hate crime" and screamed at his buddies at the CBC to blow the story out of proportion. *sigh*... why are there so many leftist jackasses in this country?
Jaggi Sigh is a national hero. He has the moral courage to non-violently stand up against the pro-Bush regime of Harper et al, which exists to serve U.S. corporate interests and is destroying Canada and the Earth. Harper has innocent blood on his hands and by defending him so do you. "Letsgetgvil" -- you ought to be ashamed of himself for attacking Singh and defending an anti-Canadian traitor like Harper.
Go masturbate while you read some more Chomsky, bud. How could you consider Jaggi a "national hero" when he's obsessed with demonizing his homeland and whatever person happens to inhabit the PMO at the time, Liberal, Tory, or otherwise? He's a priveliged rich kid who has no concept of economics or real democracy, not to mention an attention whore with a superiority complex /messiah disorder.
I will reply to you as though you are a rational person tho' cleary you're not. Jaggi stands up for ordinary Canadians exploited by the self-centred people (Liberal or Tory) who were put there by corporate interests. You are angry with him for betraying his class interests; this betrays your own narrow interest. He is putting himself on the line to the poor and democracy against selfish bastards who worship wealth and power. His is a great soul; your soul is small and shrivelled and sad.
You know nothing about me as a person, so that's a rather bold (and unqualified) statement. There's a difference between class-conciousness and class-fixation, the latter of which both you and Jaggi seem to have a bad case of. I'm not angry with Jaggi at all. In fact, I find his pick-and-choose attitude toward the law and government amusing in its hipocrisy.
"Ordinary Canadians" are not the scum living on the sidewalk begging for change so they can have another meth hit. "Ordinary Canadians" are the good, hard-working people of this country who pay their taxes, raise a family, and take responsibility for their actions. Having lived a life of privelige, Jaggi understands none of that.
Slapping the blame for all society's woes on "TEH CORPURRASHUNS" speaks loads of one's ignorance of the problems Canadians face today. Even worse when you consider Jaggi is a bigotted anti-semite who's a big fan of 9/11 conspiracy theories.
You are so narrow-minded: being pro-Palestenian does not mean you are Anti-Semite; it means you are pro-human rights. This is why many Jews are also pro-Palestenian. As for corporations, I suppose you think that Exxon and Shell are doing us a favour by raping the land through tar sands development while giving only 25 cents per barrel to Albertans? Both Liberal and Tories receive money from these foreign interests. See the film "the Corporation" to get an edcuation on their true nature.
If your are anti-Israel, you are an anti-semite. The Oil Sands are providing literally millions of Canadians with employment in the oilpatch and related work sectors, not to mention housing construction and the service industry in places like Edmonton and ESPECIALLY Calgary. The Corporation? Done. Saw it couple years ago in fact. Full of holes, out of context, and just plain silly. Now go read "The Rebel Sell" by Joseph Heath and Andrew Potter to know idiots like Jaggi Singh's true nature.
You are so tragically wrong: Judaism calls for social justice, not state terrorism. What Israel is doing is really Fascism. As for the oil sands, it employs 33,000, or less than the number that could be employed to run windfarms in Alberta, which would create jobs and save the planet. Only the U.S. oil and war profiteers would be unhappy. Your views are so extreme that every time you attack Jaggi, you give him more credibility.
I agree with your phrase "responsibility for their actions." Moral responsibiliy is what Jaggi and others like him are standing up for, against greedy lunatics who want to rape and pillage Canadians for profit. These corporate types are the real addicts, but instead of a hit of meth they want billions of dollars from the pockets of your "good, hard-working people." If you defend them, you are defending their right to screw average people trying to get by and raise a family.
And are those corporate types giving you a job? Or are you still living off of Mommy and Daddy, who work for those corporate types?
Face it, governments produce nothing, they live off of our taxes, from our jobs with those demon corporations. Without corporations, good hard working people, would not be working anymore, and governments would have NO money to spend on your socialist schemes, but don't let that get in the way of a protest. Grow up or move to China, protest there all you want!
Bystanders also attacked Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi in their day. See King's piece "Letter from Birhingham Jail" to defend his actions against his naysayers. You are right, I should not make categorial statements about you - it was a reflex action because you attacked Jaggi, who has used his education to exercise a great deal of moral responsibility through radical (but non-violent) tactics, to bring attention to the "institutionalized violence" committed by the wealthy and powerful.
Harper is Bush's "mini-me": militarization, pro-death penalty, anti-environment, pro-globalization, human rights violations (eg Gitmo Bay North, security certificates), destroying boreal forests and water to supply U.S. with oil, helping mining corporations destroy the developing world, etc. He is anti-Canadian because Canada stands for peacekeeping (not internat. aggression), for democracy (not anti-democratic tactics, eg SPP), and civil freedoms (now eroded).
Whoever says fuck Israel should pack your bags and leave and go live in an arab country like Syria. Long live Stephen Harper for being intelligent. Justice at last!
That was Police assault. Pure and simple. If this was from another country, especially an Arab or Muslim one, all you right wingers would be condemning this as a shutting down of democratic protest. Canada is being hijacked by Bush-loving ideologues. Time to kick Harper out.
I'm so disappointed that there isn't a single comment that is intelligent. If you have a problem with this action I would love to hear it in an articulate way that goes beyond 'fuck this or fuck that'. The racism in the comments are also startling (but not surprising). What is it that you feel so threated about? the fact that some people-whether you agree with them or not-have enough empathy for issues to act on it?
I donot know english speaking ..afraid Quebec..Harper favorites quebec ...give quebec more money than the rest of canada...why ???they enjoyed taxfare money..we have to work hard the rest of canada..stand up
Canada is so bureaucratic, now we have to protest in both offical languages, but I hope they let Jaggi speak on the front steps, not that I would listen because as you said, he just reiterates the same statements over and over again.
LMAO! That red headed moonbatty girl screeching like a lunatic is hilarious. All of them are extremely ridiculous. A public announcement is not the time to voice opinions; that why Cdns elect OPPOSITION representatives for. Leftists love to talk democracy... this is democracy? Disruption?
The leftist version of freedom of speech is that they get to shout down everyone who does not agree with them, and disrupt their meetings. The punks should be thrown in jail.
Whoa man, Lazereye, you've got a lot of hate inside you eh? lol. But remember, free speach is a right, and by trying to make him shut up, you ARE infringing apon his rights.
liberals and socialists claim "we support the troops but not the mission" which is pretty stupid. The CF is experiencing its highest recruitment levels in decades, and Canadians are volunteering to go over to A'stan because they support that very mission. To say "we support the troops but not the mission the troops themselves believe in and are voluntarily sacrificing alot to complete" is disrespectful to the CF. God Bless the CF, God Bless the Conservative Party, and God Bless Canada.
"God Bless the Conservative Party, and God Bless Canada" - ahhh shut your trap! Supporters of the Conservative party are not even Canadian, they are more American. Get lost confused rednecks!
Look at that bearded pro-terrorist slob in the video. "Be reasonable, be reasonable!" What a loser. These people are living in a fantasyland. I feel sorry for the mature, intelligent Canadians who have to live with this trash.
"Get a job"? MORONS! How the hell do you know they don't have jobs. The Police are the least educated idiots that have so much authority. Look at them chew their gum and pin that guy to the wall. And the thug who was fondling that women. Enjoy the spotlight now Harper...the Liberals are moving back stronger than ever.
The Liberals would have had him pepper-sprayed and then laughed about it in the House of Commons, or maybe you're too young to remember 1998 and the APEC Summit in Vancouver.
The Conservatives respect human rights, while the Liberals use the police to crush them.
Both Conservatives and Liberals have disrespect human rights in Canada and abroad. Do not judge what is right or wrong by what your political opponent does. Judge it by the principle of not harming others and defending what is morally good. By this standard, both Chretian and Harper are problematic. Harper has gone farther: he is destroying Candada, turning it into a corporate-run state to serve the interests of Exxon Mobil and the like.
Yeah, he's strengthening Canada by giving away all our natural resources to the U.S. for a fraction of what they're worth and failing to come up with a national energy security plan (the U.S. and Mexico have one, not Canada). And morality? How morally upright is it to allow Canadian mining companies to abuse human rights abroad. Every heard of Burma? The U.S. has better laws on this front that Canada. Harper sold Canada out and has blood on his hands.
Actually, once again you are COMPLETELY wrong. Today, it was announced that Canada is taking the toughest measures against the military junta in Myanmar, or Burma if you prefer.
That is for show - pure PR - probably has no teeth. Do you believe everything the government tells you? I am talking about something called the Halifax Initiatve (look it up). This was a national conference on passing a law to ensure that extraction industries (oil, gas, minerals, wood) comply with international human rights and environmental regulations. Harper's government has refused to pass such a law because it is getting paid by the mining and oil companies not to.
ajaja.."everybody is affected by cancer.." omg u guys are funny, GET A JOB...tell you what we'll pull out of the Middle East, and when we get attacked by terrorists and thousands of Canadians die we'll hold you entirely responsible for it..ok?
It is frightening, and sickening, actually, to see how casually these young people were mauled & manhandled by the police. And not just by the police but also by the organizers, who are clearly pushing people. To me, this is just more evidence that Harper is bad news. He spreads bad vibes. Canada doesn't stand for peacekeeping when it means that the soldiers we send overseas aren't properly trained, equipped, or supported.
Peacekeeping only works when both sides are willing to accept Peacekeepers, and when the Peacekeepers are credible deterrents to further violence.
That's not militarization, that's common sense.

Canada is so bureaucratic, now we have to protest in both offical languages, but I hope they let Jaggi speak on the front steps, not that I would listen because as you said, he just reiterates the same statements over and over again.

This guy yells "Why are we being asked to leave?" It's because he wasn't invited to speak informally in a formal setting.
I can't stand these hippies!
Moonwez 5 years ago

Lazereye 5 years ago
"ahh shut your trap!"?? That dosen't sound very Canadian now does it Lazereye? :) Vote Harper!

Lazereye 5 years ago
The Liberals would have had him pepper-sprayed and then laughed about it in the House of Commons, or maybe you're too young to remember 1998 and the APEC Summit in Vancouver.
The Conservatives respect human rights, while the Liberals use the police to crush them.
PhilipJFry72 4 years ago
Both Conservatives and Liberals have disrespect human rights in Canada and abroad. Do not judge what is right or wrong by what your political opponent does. Judge it by the principle of not harming others and defending what is morally good. By this standard, both Chretian and Harper are problematic. Harper has gone farther: he is destroying Candada, turning it into a corporate-run state to serve the interests of Exxon Mobil and the like.
pyork2007 4 years ago
I couldn't disagree with you more. Harper has been bringing some stability and morality back to this country. No more empty promises for Canada.
He's not destroying Canada, he's trying to preserve it by strengthening it.
PhilipJFry72 4 years ago
Yeah, he's strengthening Canada by giving away all our natural resources to the U.S. for a fraction of what they're worth and failing to come up with a national energy security plan (the U.S. and Mexico have one, not Canada). And morality? How morally upright is it to allow Canadian mining companies to abuse human rights abroad. Every heard of Burma? The U.S. has better laws on this front that Canada. Harper sold Canada out and has blood on his hands.
pyork2007 4 years ago
Actually, once again you are COMPLETELY wrong. Today, it was announced that Canada is taking the toughest measures against the military junta in Myanmar, or Burma if you prefer.
PhilipJFry72 4 years ago
That is for show - pure PR - probably has no teeth. Do you believe everything the government tells you? I am talking about something called the Halifax Initiatve (look it up). This was a national conference on passing a law to ensure that extraction industries (oil, gas, minerals, wood) comply with international human rights and environmental regulations. Harper's government has refused to pass such a law because it is getting paid by the mining and oil companies not to.
pyork2007 4 years ago
What colour is the sky in your world? "The oil and mining companies are paying..." Are you well?
The Halifax Initiative is just another left-wing lobbyist group. It has lofty goals but they are ultimately unworkable.

I agree! We should not subject our leaders to scrutiny! Trying LEARNING that the leader is right before you question the leader's policies!
