I think oceanwaydrums is a mindblowing product with the best sounding room ever but when it comes to the maximum velocity it sounds as if there are only two or three samples for each velocity level. How many samples or "hits" have you used? When i do a snare roll on my td12 kit it sounds a little bit machinegun like.
@feewert42 OWD can sound just as realistic. But the main difference is the very specific drum samples. The prices for Ocean Way Drums products vary from almost as low as EZD (OWD SE is) to the deluxe Silver, Gold and Platinum where the value difference isn't because of realism but it's because of the content which was sheer massive studio time at Ocean Way with countless hours from Allen Sides and Steven Miller. That's not cheap in real life either (much much more). So to get Ocean Way's sound..
@Goku313 Thanks. What's special about this product that some people miss is that it has its own sound. All drum products do because they are recorded in different places. The way they are done differs as well. This particular product was one of the most expensive drum products to do. Just blocking out Ocean Way for that long (even for the mix presets, not just the sampling part) was something rarely done. Not everyone realizes that.
Yo Homies' listen to this guy, hey kicks-butt but most of all he knows how to tune the freakin' drums, 99% of drummers can't keep a steady tempo or groove going & most of all have absolutely no idea how to tune their kit.
Don't become a drummer just because you are too tone-deaf to play anything else, all the really great drummers can sing & play an instrument other than drums pretty well.
@higgy1051 Hi hat sample triggering from V-Drums are the trickiest to do. Some software is better at this than others and also if you tweak the settings in the V-Drum it can improve. From a midi keyboard the hi hats are actually some of the most realistic because it has more articulations to choose from.
I bought the DrumMasters 2 Libs w/Nick playing that Gretsch kit and I've been trying to get an even response in recording on my Mac(2.66MHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAm) with the Infinity Player in KONTAKT (using the V-Drum mapping)...does anyone have any tips to make these drums trigger the software a little cleaner ? I'm using a MIDI to USB cable and although it triggers, I get drop outs, misfires, playing fast seems to be impossible when going across the toms. Jeez I any help would be APREC !
"I Know There's Something Going On" by Frida of ABBA. Phil Collins played the drums on the track and Nick D is a Collins fanatic. Genesis and Collins is all this guy used to play back in school.
@dankenton They built a duplicate room that was used by Collins/Gabriel for the 3rd Gabriel solo album & Duke to get the exact Gretsch/Collins sound, I bought the DM2 package just to get that kit, it is dead fucking on, probably the single most distinctive signature drum sound ever created !! Hats Off to Sonic Reality for making those great kits so affordable !!
Nah. There's versions of Ocean Way Drums that can be had for as little as $99 for the Player and $39 per kit. Go to the downloadablesoundz web site /oceanwaydrums and you'll see.
Not only can it easliy match the sound quality of any BFD, Superior Drummer or XLN out there, but it also loads in NI Kontakt which is what I use. It can be played via V-Drums or via Keyboard (Pre configuered- and GM-mapping are provided!).
Everybody who is seriously into the virtual recreation of acoustic drums should take a very close look. It also comes in various packages which are easliy upgradeable. For me it is a 10 out of 10.
