I had a 325e engine replaced years ago at a wrecking yard, and was wondering if I really got the 2.7 or the much more common 2.5. Any markers that would indicate?

that sounds good man thats gonna be my next upgrade on my 84 325e along with a limitedslip i put urethane subframe and controllarm bushings and it handles like a dream along with bilstien shocks and lowering springs
You guys are wrong about 325i being a 4 cylinder ,how do I know I own one their still a inline six 2.5 high rev with 167hp 181fpt and I also use to own a 1986 325e or also called 325e(eta) greek word for economy.
Its easy to install,ok now disconnect the battery just to be safe,once youve done that find your ecu(computer) and take of the cover there should be the factory chip there, its the same size as the performance chip,once you find it gently with a flat screw driver start lifting each side alittle bit at a time until it comes out,the plug your new one in,be careful though the new chip plugs in one direction only read the chips owers manual for that,put it all back together and thats it.
Hey guys, yes the 325e has the 2.7 i6, meant to rev slower, has longer throw and more torque. I'm not running the dinan chip as I've done the 327i mod to the engine now. Check my other vids.
Ive been trying to find parts man. Where is a good site or shop to search in. do you have a dual inlet exhaust or single i cant find dual inlet anywhere.

I have a 1980 320 that has a shot frame, a 240 that blew a strut and killed the strut housing, and right now, I am trying to get my hands on a 325e, If everything goes ok with the car, I'll finally be able to shut my friend up when I smoke his ass in his cougar lol
do u know the difference between the "325" and the 325e because the one i had only said 325 there was no "e" there and they say it exists but I didnt know the difference it had dual inlet and outlet exhaust with the two pipes thats go into one muffler I didnt know if that was stock or aftermarcket
the 325e has 2.7l inline six ohv engine and the 325 only has a 2.5l inline four engine. the body and frame remain the same its just a powertrain upgrade to gve it a little more jam the e d=stands for the greek letter eta
Incorrect.....the E was the only to carry the 2.7, all the rest of the bodys go along with there name, 325 means 3 series 2.5 liter engine. The e's get better gas milage and had low end torque, and only rev to 5K stock with the dinan chip 5.5k. i Just ordered my chip.
actually the 325 325e and 325es all have a 2.7 in them ive had all of the above. e stands for efficiency and es stands for efficiency sport and i stands for injection and and is of course is injection sport but a e series are 2.7 liter straight 6 cylinder engines only the i had a 2.5 and the 318 and m3 have a 4 cylinder
not to mention that the 2.5 is def a Six cylinder, the only thing that was 4 cylinder where the 318's and the M3 e30 (m3 of this body style) 325i or 325is 325e 325e's were all 6 cylinders.

@lettera32 rpm guage tells all. if it redline at 4500 its the 2.7L "e" engine. if it redline to 6400 its the "i" 2.5L engine. hope that helps
