The color purple invites mystery. It gives this... death-like feeling. It's normally associated with unknown or things that we don't know everything about. In video games or fantasy stories, it's often linked with mysticism or necromancy. Forbidden arts.

In art, your teacher teaches you that color wheel. Purple is a mix between cool and warm temperature colors. Makes it perfect for this sort of thing. Though the artist here could've used more dramatic shading on the purple...
