  • Hi from a fellow Brit over in the Colonies...

That is a very nice tank...great job mate! It's not unlike my 55g barebottom discus tank. I have a chunk of branchy driftwood on each side with 4 big Amazon swords (asymmetrical placement, 3 plants on left and 1 on right), and the "golden rule" point is an empty space between them. Your wood is rather nicer than mine though- very hard to get good wood like that where I'm at. Will try to post my own movie for you eventually.

    Regards, Colin

  • hi, what is the name of that wood?? is that expensive? thx u, nice tank... i want to start my aquarium with discus too

    -leo-

  • hi...the wood is called "redmoor",i have two pieces in the tank..they were £25 each! they do need to be weighed down as the wood floats for a long time,as it takes a while for the wood to soak enough water in to keep it down..i glued a piece of slate onto the bottom of both pieces and this done the trick, keeping them down. just google redmoor aquatic wood and you will get a number of online shops selling this wood. you can also choose the piece you like! andy

    a

  • thx u, it's such expensive woods... but it's good looking than the other drift wood... should i peal the wood or left the skin of the wood remain there? cause in my local store they haven't pealed the skin yet..

    -leo-

  • Stunning!

  • is it best to keep it simple? or can you have them with lots of plants?

  • you want to give them atleast 1 side or the back of the tank to be able to retreat to..more plants never hurt

  • ive kept both of them and for me its discus all the way..with the malawis your tank is like a war zone..constant aggression... discus on the other hand just cruise around tank with very little aggression..only maybe when spawning!

  • Yeah very little aggression fighting when spawning or over food.

  • There's a lot of aggression in my discus tank but nowhere near the amount of trouble of malawians.

  • does anyone know that scalare eats neonfishes??

  • bellissimo!

  • Fantastic set up Andy.

  • aye nice set up andy.. nice n peaceful.. unlike my little aggro machines...

  • 2:29 they are swimming towards you. Its nice to know that they know you are the owner :)

  • Ya, cichlids are very smart. They know what food and and even who there owner is. My little brothers guppy do the same thing as these discus...

  • this tank set up is awesome man. great job they look very healthy!

  • HOW MANY GALLONS IS UR TANK

  • great tank and nice choice of discus.. those are good quality..

  • hi do you use any co2? or just lights?

  • just T5 lights

  • @andyhay09 How do you manage no algae? I'm running 105watts in a 50 gallon and about a 10 hr photo period and I have constant green water....

  • @xlsn1perlx try adding a willow tree branch to your tank. i know it sounds stupid, but the branches sprout roots and suck up all your excess nitrates and other nutrients like a vacuum and pow! no more greenwater I have used this method lots of times and it works every time. u could try a temporary 8 or even 6 hour photo period also

  • your tank looks very nice by the way- i like the white sand and the water and the discus look very clean and healthy

  • thanks alot...happy fish keeping...lol

  • your welcome! It's just when it squirts out the dirt the discus can get a little agitated.

  • I've got an Osaka aswell and also some discus, just wondering, do you ever clean out the pipes that connect from in and out to the filter? Mine are filling with dirt and then when the filter stops and starts loads of dirt gets fired out!?

  • hi...with the tank set-up being really new i havint had these problems you are talking about...i will keep an eye out for them though... cheers

  • alegance! :D love!
