Perhaps the Dream Academy revival begins here? I was listening to the last Noah and the Whale album and it seemed very familiar and put me in mind of those great, cheesy US films from the 1980s, like "Ferris Whatshisface Has a Day Off" and "Planes, Trains, Italian Cruiseships and Automobiles" and then it hit me, like a slate flying from a loose roof. It was all Dream Academy. So, Paisley's very own Phantom went onto the 'Spotify' website and listened to the first Dream Academy and...........
This one goes out too all the lonely people,...in my position,....cost`s fk all to breath, smile,be polite,....the bstrds can`t take that away,.....top tune,...too the dreams of this world,....bring another track out you lot and put a bit of hope into d.a fans eh?not N.A. fans,....just D.A.fans,.......where hav u gone,....you were fkin gud,.....you can`t just "STOP!"making fine music! i`me still mending cars,....get some more good tunes out you idle buggers,....lol
Thank you for posting this. I am just now discovering this group. I love their sound. The oboe is well used and adds a lot. And Life in a Northern Town is haunting, and resonates with anyone living in an old northern industrial town (such as myself).
@ksherwoodf not as bad as my northern town,.....even rock bottom of prem,....ah well.......THE ONLY WAY IS UP!!!!!!!........just getting off your`e ass and doing someat about it,......but with no "PENNIE`S!" it`s hard to make pennies,.......gud tune though,.....hop my dongle lasts until i play life ina blackburn "CARAVAN!" Truly fantastic song performed by hauntingly gifted artists! It sound just as good, if not better, than it did 25 + years ago! I LOVE The Dream Academy!
Tremendous song. Yeah, haunting is a good word to describe. I've been listening to this song since it's inception, and I also never tire of it. This guy has talent.
This is truly a classic, and very haunting. I will never ever tire of this group, I will always cherish my CD, LPs, and still have the worn out cassette as well! It's one of my all time favorite albums, and am so glad I was able to grow up listening to this in my collection all these years. My friends and I still love listening to them, and it was always playing in my car, and made for great traveling music, especially along the coast. I miss those days, and listening to this brings it all back!
@dap2112 Hey Thanks!!! I consider us the lucky ones to have heard, listened and really appreciated their talents all these years. I think it's sooooo cool to know others are out there that feel the same way as I do, and still listen to them as often as I do, I'm sure of it!!!! ; ) Cheers, and peace to you and Happy Holidays!!!
Dream Academy - one of my all time favorite bands. somehow this music never made it across the ocean, we were exposed to so little of TDA's music. A song about the 60's - Life in a Northern Town- somehow got translated into a notion that TDA sounded like the 60's I dont really agree with that. If classically trained is what gives this group their remarkably exquisite, richly layered sounds then maybe more should try that. Deep love for NLC voice and style, TDA always in my heart.
reggie's on the street with all the lonely people tryin' to get a job . the dreams of this world have turned into a nightmare. Linda meets a friend . gettin' nowhere..something always goes wrong. jenny says she's gonna give it all up & stop..but it's so hard to stop when all your friends said they just got high. Why should they try to hold on to the dreams of this world?
beautiful...totally love The Dream Academy..love this song too...used to have the poster from 'The Love Parade' 12" on my wall years ago, but have lost it since!
A reunion would be excellent since I would have been a small kid when they were around the first time round...
British record buying public, be ashamed. TDA had just one hit single. Crying shame. Saw them twice, the gig at Egham in a blizzard was truly epic. More from Trashmonk please. And a reunion wouldn't go amiss either ;)
Rather a wonderful song, This was playing at one of the most self destructive moments of my life, I am glad to have been able to save myself, from myself, and this song and its message still stand. Thanks Nick, Kate, and Gilbert.
This remains my favourite Dream Academy song. The lyrics and music, overlaid with sounds of traffic - ah! The entire sonic effect, supporting a bleak narrative commentary, just dazzles me.

If I was a record exec. in the sixties, I would have signed this band in a heartbeat! They have that sixties feel and would have been huge.
