Does anyone know of any comparative studies that show how a HTGR nuclear plant could be married to the coal to liquids process? In other words, is it mostly the traditional heat generation that produces the extra CO2 or the chemical reaction by products?
Lets do it!!! What are all those toothless WV hicks gonna do without mountains? Mine coal. Thats what they'll do. They'll be happy for the jobs, and we'll all be happy to pay $2 for a gallon of gas.
Coal gasification doesn't work. Besides just how stupid is it to destroy land for coal and then make that coal into something else that will foul the earth even more? How much to the cost do you think that will add? Coal is expensive, oil is expensive and a process to take coal and make it gas will be even more expensive. It's time to throw out the old ideas and come up with something new instead of beating the same dead horse.
This is so stupid. The coal still has to be mined at great harm to the land and the people that live there. 474 mountains have been blown up in Appalachia to give us COAL. No matter whether we use it or convert it the harm is done.
BTW, I made a mistake in my first post. 474 mountains in WEST VIRGINIA. There are many more in the other Appalachian states. It's a shame and disgrace.
474 mountains have been blown to bits in WV so no they aren't "still there". Maybe where you are they haven't used MTR yet. I hope they never do. Underground mining and even the old style strip mining is pretty much a thing of the past. MTR is the fast and brutal way to go and gets the most profits for the coal barons like Don Blankenship. It's happening all over Appalachia and there's no use pretending it's good for the land or the people.
it's not stupid, face it we need fuel, unless you wanna live in the 1860's, riding a horse, building your own cabin, hunting for your food, or growing it, & cutting wood, for your heat and/or hot water

@jasbcor
This option is only feasible when alternate energy is used in the heating process otherwise too much CO2 is produced refer
CTL (Coal To Liquid) & GTL (Gas To Liquid) refer to "liquidcoalcom"

I'd rather have a couple of hundred nuclear power plants for battery or hydrogen gas power transportation.

DUH. Mining coal has nothing to do with producing gas or the price of gas. Two totally different subjects.

Coal to oil, oil to gas.

Little slow on the uptake, aren't you?

iam from Appalachia and they do mine but most of the coal is underground mining they dont blow up the mountians

So where did all those mountains go then?
Snicki1946 3 years ago
well hell there still here i live between two of them i go ridin on ones that havebeen mined all the time

That's true and we need to come up with new methods to produce energy instead of depending on the coal and gas that does so much harm to the world.
Snicki1946 3 years ago
Too much dependence on current fuel sources. In the future with oil gone, a lot of us will have to go back to the 1860's.
