Hi, which program do you use to overclock???. I got an alienware m11x R3 so i would like to know please answer me. i usuallly get arround 85 C normally do you know why it reaches so high temperature?
hey dude can you plese help me i get huge problems when i overclock mine... i have like flickering shapes randomly appering on all games, do you have any idea how could i stop it without not downclocking it ?
My system:
CPU Intel Core i5 2430M 2,4GHz to 3,0GHz
GPU Nvidia Geforce GT540M 1GB GDDR3 clocked at 800,950,1550
@xXiRegretNothingXx It's definitely not healthy for your laptop. You have to downclocking your laptop a bit. Find your own max, or else you killing your laptop.
@yfzrider13 - I must apologize. I have tried to OC once with MSI Afterburn, but didn't work. Now I tried you advise, and it worked. My 3DMark06 score went from : 8.950 to 10.500.
@DiChatZ hmm i actuly found a soulotion not overclock at all, but i bouth laptop cooler it runs even better then overclock. i guess the problem is that the card heats up too much and fps drop quiet a lot.
1. st. Your OC suck.. There are no different between your "OC" and non-OC.. You reduced your resolution, and make other settings at high. You got like 30 fps average.
@DiChatZ What processor/ graphics card are you running? I had to drop the resolution to get decent frame rates while i was recording. Fraps sigificantly drops framerate so yes, when i am not recording i can run those resolutions. When I overclock my card I am seeing a substantial rise in frame rates (anywhere from 7-15 depending on the game.) Those few frames can mean the difference between smooth and laggy.
@yfzrider13 I run i5-2430/GT 540M 2GB. It's a ASUS K53SV.
I run all settings on high, except shadows, their are on low. My fraps are 40-80, depends on much.
My point is, you can't OC a GT 540M, because they don't allow you to do so. But you are welcome to post a vid, with ur OC. And I will take my words back, and apologize.
@DiChatZ I'm running a few settings on very high and recording. I'm going to have my overclocking tutorial out soon. Its actually quite simple if you use the right program. The video should be out soon, hopefully i can help you out!
@DiChatZ i currently have the n53sv with a 2670qm and nvidia 540m and i oc it with msi afterburner and get an average 10 fps increase with the core clock at 830 mhz, the shader clock at 1660 mhz and the memory clock at 1000mhz
I'm planning on getting this computer. Is is good? And does overclocking make a significant difference with the frame rate or settings you get on a game? Thanks :)
@UglyHoboBoys I was using a bad program to measure temps. I am running close to 80c when overclocked. If my computer rises much above 80 it resets itself back to stock clocks.
question, does all nvidia 540m GPU have the overclock feature in them? because i'm buying a laptop with the same GPU like yours. in fact, it's the same exact laptop except my model is n53sv-dh72
I have a samsung laptop with the exact same specs except for ram (I've got 6g ram). I want to overclock my gt540m because I just got BF3 and would really like a few more frames for smoother gameplay. At what temperature does an OC get dangerous?
Dude do u change the overclock in each ?What settings of overclock do u recommend?one that doesnt give high temperatures =OO cuz u change them every video =O
@davidalex712 It won't harm the computer actually. If the card is overclocked too much or it gets too hot, then it automatically sets the clock speeds back to stock. So no it won't harm the computer and it shouldn't void warranty because its just a setting. You are not modifying any part of the computer by tampering with clock speeds.
@davidalex712 Stick around and I should have a tutorial video done in mid december. Also, keep watch for other games suck as dirt 3, rage, and battlefield 3!
I had my clock speeds up to 800/950 and after booting up Crysis and right after entering the game, my screen went black... Is this normal? Rebooted and everything was fine, but I'm just curious. I really want to improve my gaming performance.
Hey guys, I have an M11x R3, with the new i7 Sandy-Bridge CPU. My GPU is a GT540M and I'd appreciate some GPU OC tips... A problem I seem to have is that I can't change the Processor clock from its base 1344, but I can adjust the Graphics and Memory clocks... Should I up the latter and leave the Processor clock at 1344 or will that break my card?
Got the same laptop but with i5. I downloaded all the Nvidia software to overclock, but I can't change the Processor clock from 1600. Did you have this problem?
I Boosted the card from stock up 800/1000 but I can't change the last value..
Got a good 8FPS more on the BF3 demo with that clock.. Now we just need better drivers...
@yfzrider13 Even if i overclock the core speeds up 2 mhz, and touch nothing else, the gpu usage still drops heaps, like from a 99% usage to a 38%, and my core speeds dont drop, as seen from msi afterburner
I overclocked the gt 540m to 825, 1650, 1000, but when ever i dont use my charger for my laptop, the fps will drop drastically, instead of keeping the same frames. Why do you think this is the case? does it happen to you?
I got the same Asus N53SV with the GT 540M, and i've overclocked it to a simple 800/1000.. but for some reason i keep seeing artifacts in all the games i've tested yet + 3dmark06, even though the GPU temp is actually on a stable 68 degrees Celsius?
@Fantasma25 Nope i don't have a cooler. But crysis REALLY overheats. I played for a good 30 minutes on these settings without a problem, but i wouldn't go to much longer. My temp never got quite that high, but crysis is just horribly optimized. I played bulletstorm at 825, 1000 and it never overheated!
@TheProMiners Download the nvidia system tools then go to the control panel and adjust the clock speeds. 800/950 is a good stable starting clock. If you want to get extreme i've found that 830/1080 is the max you can go and still remain stable.

CreamIceProductions 5 months ago
@CreamIceProductions Its because the battery doesn't produce enough power for gaming. Especially when you're doing a heavy overclock like that.
yfzrider13 5 months ago
@CreamIceProductions Because when it's unpluged the GPU automaticly lowers it's clocks to conserve power.

@trisanosh Oh, I'm sorry didn't notice the temperature already mentioned in the discription, great results and nice temperature ;)
