Interesting phrasing and great improvisation, dude. Awesome! ;-) As for the Lester, well, they're not making the Classics anymore, but the Traditional Pro has sort of taken its place in the catalog now. It's also got a '60s neck and non-covered pickups, and it's a solidbody (unlike the new Standards).
@zech2006 i think they brought it back.... not exactly the same but in faded black and faded cherry models. Gibson Les Paul Classic Faded. i'm looking at it right now
in my opinion the 498 has too much bass and the 500t is too heavy for a classic les paul. i changed the 500t and took a seymour duncan seth lover instead. But soon i gonna change both pickups to seymour duncan pearly gates. That's the sound i call classic for a les paul.
i just love that guitar. i've got the same, but i changed the 500t into a seymour duncan 55b (seth lover) pickup. the combination with the more modern 496r is genious for my experimental playing. i didn't like the 500t because it was too steril. but nice playing man!
They are more shrill, and the sound can never be as smooth. But they give out tighter tone at the bass register and really cut through the mix. In a band situation they are pretty good!!! Both these ceramics are quite hot pickups with a distinct middy character that is very enjoyable...
@B2Rockin Burstbuckers are very thin, not particularly good for anything. The 496R is in my opinion the PERFECT neck pickup. Its ultra bluesy, great clean or dirty. Im actually contacting Gibson Custom Shop (they have a booth at my favourite guitar store) and they will make me a custom one of a kind double white 496.
Awesome, I was looking at one of them, but I wouldn't get it for a while b/c I'm not rich and I just bought a new guitar, an Agile AL-3100 (LP copy). I'm pretty satisfied with my Agile: Alnico V pickups, Grover tuners, smooth neck, it's nice! On a scale 1-10, how would you rate your Gibby?
VERY GOOD PLAYING, but i think you already know that. yeah, the roland cube series is amazing. i have the 30 and 60 along with a mesa boogie stiletto ace.

i have the exact same identical guitar and absolutely love it. Shocked they would discontinue it. oh well more value to my guitar.

how do these pick ups compare to the burstbucker series?
B2Rockin 2 years ago
I have no idea Bro.
I used to try burstbucker series in the store.
They can make Gibson LP character.
But my feeling 500T Pickup can make Hot sound for metal and 496R Pickup can make warm sound for jazz.
zech2006 2 years ago
I may just buy them and get the guitar anyways, I love that tobacco burst finish. Awesome guitar man!
