unreal tournament 2004 is a great game because of the addition of the vehicles, the assault rifle, the new super weapons, and the new characters! the diversity of mutators all so are great, i remember me playing dria with just goliaths, mostly i just liked the raptor. but all the vehicles in one match makes a huge difference!

I would think UT2004 would be perfect if everything wasn't so slow and the weapons were a bit stronger like in UT99. And fuck the Assault Rifle and Shield Gun too. I think they tried this in UT3 but the feel was lost for some reason.

I miss the UT2004 days so much. UT3 just flat out sucked and is definitely one of the biggest lessons on how to screw up a video game franchise. It's online community was dead within months as people just gave up on it. The art style was wrong. The whole feel and the way things moved wasn't as tight or as good as UT2004. No assault mode. I could list tons of other little things but UT3 just did not have the magic of UT2004.

UT2004 is the best in the series and this theme is a classic.

@DrCubeFTW WTF are you on about? UT3 has an assault mode. I find it actually better than 2004 due to the fact that's just as fast paced as the original UT. I agree with you regarding the art style though. But it's an all around good game.

The online community was dead within months due to the fact that people want to play easy-to-learn shooters like CoD or MoH. Playing UT online and being a noob is very taxing, you need to put in hours of play until you reach an acceptable skill level

The mode that you are talking about which made UT so amazing, was Capture the Flag, not Assault.If you don't trust my opinion, see numbers. They will provide you more evidence. :)

For me levels like FacingWorlds and Morpheus represent the creativity and craziness of UT. Also it has to be fast-paced and wild! It's like the opposite of CoD wich is more realistic and tactical (well not rly that tactical but you know what I mean) .

I think Cod-like shooters might have the upper hand now, but crazy shooters like UT will make a comeback eventually, there's just too much potential there.

Unreal tournament was the very first game I ever played (age of 4 :P). I've been a fan of the franchise ever since, anticipating every game. With Gears of War released, I was disappointed at the fact that GoW was very well known, but not its Unreal brother. Everyone around me heard of GoW, but Unreal was a mystery to them. I'm going to install my UT2k4 again tonight, i have had the CD's for over 3 years, i bought UT3 in hopes of something good, but then as my mouth dropped at GoW: first person edition, i broke the CD, i didn't return it, cause i knew the game wasn't worth time taking back, so i put it in my microwave and enjoyed the light-show. Epic took over UT3 and made it a fail, Atari had most control last time from what I've heard, so when epic made UT3, it sucked.

Unreal 3 is definitely a slower paced game than UT 2k4, I think EPIC has been influenced by the industry too much. They had a good formula, it sucks that they didn't cater to the PC fanbase first. Consoles already had Gears of War. PC Gets nothing :(
