Flight sim? which one? FMS, not, clear view - pretty good, the other $200+ pretty good.. Not perfect but very good for getting really familiar with controls, orientation. Certainly help a lot, but in my opinion they act very different than real heli - still a great way to practice.
I am in Colorado, so about 1 mile above sea level, and the heli can fly just fine here; I am sure the only limitation is how well can the pilot fly and how good his/her eyesight is. When you get high in a heli it gets hard to see the orientation and I think that is the main limitation. There are quite a few very very good videos of people flying RC helis with cameras, some quite high.
This cam is about 2oz; performance drop is noticable; but pple who went to brushless motor say this bird can handle more weight then. Pay attention to CenterOfGravity not just weight.
Wow, 2oz is quite a bit of weight to add to a little bird like this! Hell, I tried to add a 67 gram camera (2.36oz) and my poor Honeybee couldn't get more than 1 foot off the ground! Overall, nice flying! Steady platform for shooting.
Thx. Interesting on your experience though! I am in the mountains and it did quite well with that weight.. Any chance your battery is not performing or the main motor is going bad? With this cam it was a bit sluggish, but takeoff was not an issue. Is your center of gravity and tracking as it should be?
Though I'm far from an expert, I am sure that my tracking is fine. The main motor performs well without the camera onboard, so I don't think that is an issue either. It could easily be my battery, though, as I havn't flown in ages. It might be time for a new lipo!
Well, don't know what to tell you. Hope the battery will do the trick. Are your blades a bit beat up too by chance and have you ever actually balanced them? I think you can get a new lipo for below $20 these days - have fun if that allows u to fly with the cam :)
I actually just replaced my blades not long ago, and I can assure you they are balanced perfectly. I suspect my battery is to blame, considering its age. I got it back before I really knew how to care for batteries haha.
