@breakdancer958 In SKIF the second kiai is not at the last move but if you look and listen better you will see that the second kiai is at the first jump.. Don't hurry to dudge a Master... He knows very well what he is doing...
@richardsmith1990 i saw one very optimistic bunkai for it somewhere, cant remember where.
imagine the hand that you pull back is representing a katana (sword) you jump and kick it out of the offenders hand, then another attacker from the front tries to thrust a sword, you duck that, step up and block it out of his hand, its a VERY optimistic bunkai and im sure there are many others but thats one i have seen, il try to find another some more bunkai, more realistic ones
@richardsmith1990: @richardsmith1990: Someone has grabbed your arm and is trying to pull you in their general direction, you keep tension with their grab as to steady them. You then release the tension by jumping and kicking them with your right foot. (Be it in the face, arm, knee, etc.) You land safely and stand up for the next opponent where you block and counterattack them accordingly.
when he does the jump kick after he lands he springs right back up. It's amazing, at my school we land and look left and right before we jump back up.
One of my favourite kata, Kanku Sho is attractive to younger karateka as a choice for 3rd dan grading due to its flexibility and athleticism. As always, an excellent ,powerful display from Kanazawa.
There are no 12th dans whatsoever in Shotokan. Bunjinkan ninjutsu is the only art I'm aware of that goes over 10, and there's a lot more than 3 of them in the US over 10th.
Hey I train in Ireland with a club recognised by JKA. We work by the rules, don't have any 12 dans in our club, and we've trained with Ota, Ochi and the late Sensei Enoeda in the past. Don't disrespect dojos in other countries, remember America was the place where the phrase "McDojo" was first coined.
I have read all of the comments found here and I think many of you are confusing competition style performances with those we see here. The trend in kata competition to perform the moves at great speed removes the natural rhythm and takes away the true meaning. The pace of a kata as we see Sensei Kanazawa perform is paramount to its understanding. It can also be harder to perform the moves at the slower pace than rush through them without proper form or understanding to their actual meaning.
I toally agree with you. The first run is usually quite fast, anyway. This is probably the speed acording to his interpreation and particular condition.
The second run is - to my pleasure - slow and more instructive.
I do not train Shotokan but I enjoy a lot watching Kanazawa San´s videos, as they are very similar to what I learned.
Not knocking Kanazawa, but you must mean the only recognized 10th under certain associations. I've met other 10th dans. Doesn't change the fact that Kanazawa does great kata. Would love to train under him, although he'd probably kill me.
Ignorace? You have great ignorance, and try to hide with flowery rhetoric! The Atomic bombs saved millions of Chinese lives, as tens of thousands were dying everyday that the war was going on, under the Japanese! Compare that bomb to what they did in Nanking, did you ever hear of that? No? Of course not! We didn't brutalize the Japs the way they did to the captive populations that they conquered. Stick to your karate fanstasy and leave history to the knowledgeable!
My son, I have a great deal to teach you. Please do not let your ignorance interfere. The attrocities in China cost the Chinese people over seventy million deaths. The cruelty of the Japanese was unpresedented in all of Asia's history, even the Mongols! People were brutalized in ways unconcivable to the Western morality. You, in your childish ignorance and loyalty refuse to face the facts and reality of their history. In your loyalty to this man you make a total fool of yourself!
Don't mix things up and do not criticize because Western morality has to be ashamed of what it has done in time. Just think of nazis, atomic bombs over Japan, religious disgrace everywhere. Don't offend those masters who believe in arts that can educate for peace. You don't understand martial arts so just step aside and let people who practice judge for themselves. Ignorance is the worst enemy of mankind. Remember..!!
Kanazawa trained under Nakayama. Nakayama wasn't the best of the group that studied under Funakoshi. The JKA had a great p.r. office. That's why they stayed alone, and wouldn't compete against other styles in open competition. Takuoshu Univ. was a hotbed of Japanese militarism. Nakayama was a "student" in Manchuria under the Japanese occupation. All that crap about "Dojo Kun" is bullshit! Look at how they treated the Chinese under their rule! So those idiots who worship Kanazawa are idiots!
Good to watch. I do GKR but like watching all styles. I find it interesting. The sad thing about some commnets are the mean spirited ones that just slag of for any reason. I wonder why tose wankers then bother to watch the videos that they rubbish so much. Per chance has anyonecome across goose call Kaich0 who does this. cheers
It is such a shame that there will always be people who use the cover of internet anonymity to make disparaging comments about such a great master. How sad that these people need to do such a thing to make themselves feel big.
I recall that Master Kanazawa could move with such fluidity that often people did not perceive his technique, let along his speed.
Also, he could make great power with very small movements. Once in a London subway station, he parried an attack with a small, circular motion of his wrist and then dropped the man with ippon nukite (one finger.) He later regretted the "violence."
The true dynamics of karate or unique. Most karateka subsitute enthusiasm, aggressiveness, or "street-fighting" power rather than the subtle, yet powerful, dynamics of Master Kanazawa. Anyone who can shatter a makewara or put his foot (toes down) through kendo armor is not just dancing.
It's an honorary position, usually only awarded to you once you're dead. This guy's the first living 10th Dan. Not that it's an aincient traditional ranking system.
Thank for all these vids Orbelus, they're smashing.
It's an instructional video, so he's not gonna whip through it.
Also, as a side note, I love it when english idioms lose their meaning so much that people start misspelling them....things like "with all do respect" instead of "with all due respect".
Hello. My name is Sam, and I'm a prick when it comes to grammar.
Also, what most people miss is....Kanazawa is a 10th dan. If he does it a nonstandard way, that Becomes the way to do it. Also, if he does it a certain way, you can assume it's so for a very good reason.
