  • My name is Michael Caine. Not a lot of people know that.

  • One of my all time favourite songs ever. In London in the 80's in the pub people would get pissed off because I would put this song on 5 times in a row !!!!!

  • @goodkarmafollowsme wow!, your a self centered dick................i wanted to kill (literally) this dude who put hotel california on 3 - 4 times in a row at my local bar. Have some respect for others at the bar (you probably really did piss off people at your bar)

  • This band is hilarious. What a piss take!

  • You cant beat abit of madness

  • On a crazy Madness mood. Love the band and this is their best song IMO

  • your only sposed to blow the bloody doors orff!

  • @mainface wow! someone else who actually remembers the original Italian Job.

  • MY NAMES NOT MICHAEL CAINE

  • A great actor...his daughter was/is a fan of Madness and he happily agreed to the sampling as a result.

  • I thought this was a song about people who couldn't get an autograph from the Man.

He ain't that great, anyway. But Madness are something else.

  • Two people got neither a word nor a photograph to keep.

  • my five minutes of fame is that Michael Caine gave my parents a bottle of champagne when i was born! because he is a legend!

  • awesome group for a wonderful actor

  • 2 people are not named Michael Caine

  • bowielike but still 100% madness !!!

  • Micheal told MADNESS they had to give him 1 million pounds to be in the video and that's why he is not in the video in person :FACT: ;D

  • Magnificent song from one of the best singles bands England ever produced.

  • brilliant suggs and the gang

  • I love Chas in this video <3 and well, obviously I love the song too --"And all I wanted was a word or a photograph to keep" :D

  • Michael Caine almost didn't let Madness use his voice in this song, until his daughter convinced him to. Now there's not many people who know that.

  • @freelancerobotics i knew that :) it was on bbc radio 2 the other week

  • @freelancerobotics Except for anyone who's read the Wikipedia article on this song.

  • @grainbelt01 watch?v=hY85a15n5QY

  • Never understood the direction Madness took toward the end of their initial career; this song and others like "Wings of the Dove" don't really work for me. Perhaps you had to living there at the time?

  • "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" A bit of topic but that a never ending line! ;-)

  • It's nothing to do with Northern Ireland! The intro refers to 'Get Carter' - which stars (guess who?) and the style is the 60s Harry Palmer films. The supporting actors are cast to look like those from Ipcress and Funeral in Berlin....

  • @staffsyeoman Ummmm yes it is mate.

  • @staffsyeoman nope...it is about the troubles in northern ireland, specifically about an informer called Sean O'Callaghan who prevented a bomb at a duran duran concert that princess diana was due to attend, nothing to do with get carter or in fact micahel caine.

  • last heard this song back around 1984, was only 3 years old growin up with me mum while me dad was at work, 30 years old now and just heard it again this week for the first time and actually remember it.. absolute magic :)

  • @ChrissyboyH44 you like alllllllll youtubers have the most amazing memory. Forget the fact that most people's memory doesn't kick in until around 5-8 years of age (rarely 5, most of the time 6 1/2 and up) and yet all yall amazing youtubers can remember a song from 2-3 years of age, WOW!

  • @rwk1983 I will forget the 'fact' 'many' peoples memories only kick in at 5-8 and remember the fact that many other people's kick in earlier, I remember loads before the age of 5.

  • Never really a big fan way back then, but now I realise they are quite awesome

  • Watch The Fourth Protocol. That's one of the good guys.

  • @slurpeeslurpee1 which is a lot of people

  • The best song they ever did. Fucking sound.

  • sweet song

  • Epic fuckin song HAHA!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @Malinth66 No, YOU!!! GET A LIFE FUCK YOU!!!

  • @slurpeeslurpee1 What a miserable being you are.

  • @Malinth66 No, YOU ARE THE MISERABLE BEING!!! Don't listen to some old shit

  • @slurpeeslurpee1 I see. Your life is such a massive failure that you've resorted to having a good trolling. Well, have fun on the streets.

  • @slurpeeslurpee1 Don't you DARE mention that shitbag's name here in the process of dishonouring Michael Caine and Madness. FUCK YOU!!!

  • @whatthehell5551 Yeah well, I'm going to beat the shit out of you when I meet you in person

  • @slurpeeslurpee1 Hah!!! Bullshit. You don't even know me. Dumbass. You must be trolling or you are a fucking moron.

  • @slurpeeslurpee1 fuck off get a life, get a sence of musical taste then come back here and say something good about this song or the entire world of madness will beat you to death, alright

  • well said

  • I Am micheal caine!!!! best line ever!

  • boss song but i cant figure out wether its suggs singing

  • @choclatesaltyballz It's Chas.

  • @mimkyodar cheers mate. massive tune! madness best by a mile

  • absolutely fantastic song, madness are just brilliant"!

  • 3/14/11: Happy 78th birthday, Sir Michael!

  • This must be Madness' coolest song! And Carl Smyth looks like Ewan McGregor...

  • One ot Madness"s best in my opinion.Should be included in the live concerts.Suggs is great but it makes a nice change to hear a different vocal. The endless tallent of Madness,THE MUSIC NEVER AGES AND THE NEW STUFF IS JUST AS GOOD.

  • this song is AWESOME!!!...and so is michael caine....so just awesomeness all round really..

  • 2 people were only 16 years old

  • @HToothrot Hey theres loads of 16 year old Madness fans around im only 16 :)

  • @MaccaBeatles and i'm only 14

  • @MaccaBeatles And 13 year olds! I started when I was 10! ;D

  • @MaccaBeatles Hell yes! Im 15 :D

  • Rihanna is a uselless spunkbucket !!! Well said Jon998.

  • Someone should do a cover of this called "Omar Sharif" if you catch my drift.

The song is a relevant now as it was when it was first recorded.

  • made so many years ago but still sounds good!

  • I haven't heard this song in forever! <3

  • I'm greatly impressed by the fact that Madness appear to be appreciated by such a diverse section of society, and I'm also pleased that Madness have such an international appeal. This is music that will definitely not be appreciated by some of the record buying pond life, but as long as the 5 year olds have got their Girl bands/Boy bands, then I'm sure that everybody will will be happy.

    Viva Madness.

  • esta canción es fabulosa

  • stop chucking thoes bloody spears...........at me

  • i'm 17 and i love madness. i think more people should like them and similar, PROPER music. instead of this justin bieber crap.

  • I'm only 17 but i love Madness.

  • best madness song this one reminds me of school days

  • Suggs is the lead singer of Madness but not on this song for some reason.

  • @iw32 Chas is handling vocals on this one.

  • Very pleasant song to listen to, even though it seems to have to do with "the troubles". First time hearing this band. I was searching for Michael Caine, but I'm glad I came upon this, it's really good. Is this from 80's, or the 70's? I'll have to listen to some more MADNESS

  • michael caine said in an interview recently that this is not actually his voice, sounds just like him though!

  • @YDiawl but you realize that's only your opinion and there is no objective measurement of a genre or artist's worth, right?

  • Music reflected the times...Madness is a great band.Pick up there latest one its grown up madness..lol....Check out Embarrassment video...its cool.

  • Carl/Cathal/Chas sings on this song, the only one of their hits he does so on.

  • madness fish and chips sunday dinner eggs bacon beans and a fried slice good to live in england

  • @Jon998 I was thinking roughly the same while listening after so many years... This is music!

  • I was born in 1987 and this is one of my fav songs and music videos.

  • Is there a storyline is this video?

    I don't really understand it.

  • @noole1994 Don't worry if you don't understand as their isn't really any storyline. Actually the song is about a hypothetical British 'informer' during the Northern Irish troubles. Guess the link to the actor Michael Caine is he famously played a British spy in the 1965 film Ipcress Files.

  • @hkpho0ey and to underline that link to the actor, Sir Michael recorded the 'My Name, is Michael Caine' line just for this song , after his daughter convinced him to reconsider his earlier refusal.

  • @ssithl Guess that would be Natasha Caine as it's his youngest.

Although may be another link to a Caine film. Having just listened to it again due to your reply. Whilst I don't think is a direct quote from a film I think the very first line "If there is one thing worse than a murderer it's a dirty rotten stinking grass..." is a link to another film. Probably too out of character for Harry Palmer (Ipcress File), however I could imagine a gangster like Jack Carter (Get Carter) saying it.

  • @hkpho0ey according to Wikipedia - which of course comes with a pinch of salt , the video is indeed based on Ipcress File :)

  • "You're only supposed to blow the bladdy doors off"

    Quality

  • I grew up listening to Madness and I will continue to listen to Madness all the while I have a good taste in music.

  • Has to be one of my favourite Madness songs :)

  • Great song.. pity about the video!!

  • nice motor that old jag

  • My name is micheal caine, not alot of people know dat hahahahaha loool, zulus thousands of em. lool

  • i cant believe i loved every madness song love them 4 ever

  • the madness videos always have something random at the begining before the song starts, the best one so far is defo one step beyond

  • Anyone notice the name at the beginning of the credits - "A Maurice J. Micklewhite Production?" Ironically, that's Michael Caine's proper name. I guess that's a sort of reference to the actor as well as the paper shredder. The car belonged to Lee Thompson.

  • mad about this song at the moment!! brilliant stuff :)

  • what is this song about excatly?

  • Michael Caine you silly twonk lol

  • It's actually about an informant ("grass") during the Northern Ireland Troubles. It mentions Caine because, at the time he was best known for his role in a spy film: The IPCRESS file.

  • Now that's some good info, Thanks

  • Where did you get that notion from????

  • It's pretty well documented, you can read about it on the song's Wikipedia page

  • Pretty well hidden then! The use of Michael Caine, the fact that the video is based on the Ipcress File and that Harry Palmer (Caines character in the film) say s "My name isn't Harry, but in this business it's hard to remember whether it ever had been" makes me think otherwise and would put this down to good old accurate wikipdia.

  • I thought it was about a famous person forgetting his name(his original purpose)

  • @rkvktmen Utter nonsense

  • duhh i knew that just the story

  • Twonk, classic not heard that one for donkeys! nice one mate :-)

  • 2:58 Chris was cute back then :)

  • my favourite Madness tune!!

  • this song is fucking cool

  • Cathal bears a certain resemblance to Graeme Swann IMO. And yes, you beat us Aussies in the Ashes again.

  • I wish I was born in the 80's. Or even the 70's just so I could experience the 80's. Im 13.

  • lol....can you imagine going around with bleached jeans and a mullet?

  • I'm nearing 16 and began to like them a lot at your age, this chart stuff is all utter crap

  • im 18 years old and my only regret is not being able to witness the 80s and all its great music like madness....

  • I so agree with you!

  • i love Madness!!!!! all music pales in comparsion :'(

    im 15 :P

  • Oh man, the world needs to wake up.

Listen to this and then listen to Rihanna or something.

How can you even consider Rihanna as Music? But that's my opinion.

  • Exactly, I'm 14 and I cant stand today's "Pop" music, eg Rhianna and all the shitty dance and c(rap) music.

  • Someone else that agrees, i'm 15

  • @Jon998

You are so right man!! we live in sad times now..

  • @Jon998 Nice one mate, I feel exactly the same.

  • @Jon998 i consider them two wildly different types of music, both which i enjoy. just because something is different doesn't make it bad :) keep an open mind

  • @Jon998 I actually did, and felt awful after listening to it....

  • @Jon998 ha! i love your sentiment. there is so much good music out there that has been washed over or covered by so many manufactured plastic popstars. if you like this may i recommend the band called talk talk, or perhaps the icicle works. let me know what you think.

  • @spooksixsix talk talk were crap but the icicle works were fantastic group ian mcnabb was a great songwriter and the group were amazing live

  • @unclemort1960 hi, you dont reckon talk talk then? ! never mind. at least we agree on the icicle works, what are your thoughts on the talking heads? i know some of their stuff was a bit odd, i think that was eno's influence.

  • @spooksixsix the heads seemed very nerdy and intellectual i prefer rock to be a bit rough `n` tough i.e the ramones the clash johnny thunders and the heartbreakers .the early heads were a big influence on XTC whose debut was a good record

  • @Jon998 100 % agreed! Madders are great!

  • @Jon998 You're wrong, rihana IS MUSIC, but... very, very, bad music!

  • @Jon998 but your opinion is RIGHT!!!

  • love that video anyway but how gorgeous is Cathal in that?? xx

  • The fact that so many of you are teenaged Young Ones fans, and not only that but you like Madness, fills me with hope that the future of our great country is not so dim after all. :)

  • @apollothemighty What country are you from. I'm 17 and from America and all my friends listen to Madness!!!

  • @Devildance1234 I'm in the U.S. At the time I made that comment I was in Louisiana, and now I'm in New Mexico. The South tends to be pretty stagnant. All the high school kids I was teaching last year were into--what's her name?--Tyler Swift? Except for the one rebel among them who liked Insane Clown Posse. I thought he was joking at first when he told me that, so I busted out laughing. Then with horror I realized "Oh, my god! He's serious!"
