My friend and I went to a party in Hollywood that tried to recreate this era...obviously there's nothing like the real thing circa the early 90s. If anyone's in Los Angeles now who was part of it...send me a message! Love to have a friend with firsthand stories of this scene I missed out on...
From 1992 for me brother I'm with you on Limelight, Tunnel and palladium and( the original sound factory= Twilo )...And I agree about Twilo sound system thumped pretty hard... But their lights were insane I could dance on the dance floor and as the night went on it seemed like I was in like 5 other clubs I could never figure out where I was and then boom he would do something to the lights again and would realize I was in the exact same spot the whole night!!!! Damn I miss those days!!! It
Twilo, Exit, SF, Limelight, Vinyl, Roxy, Ohm, Lot 61, China Club, The World, Tunnel, Palladium + more...all pumping on a given Fri and/or Sat night.
Junior, Peter Rauhofer, Boris, Tony Draper, Jason Ojeda, Denny Tsettos, Jonathan Peters, Danny Tenaglia, Sasha & Digweed, Calderone, David Morales...just some of the resident DJ's we had on the regular
is every generation down on the next phase, or is shit really lame now? Cause I'd love the Studio 54 vibe before my time, but now NY is bad...no?
I don't know who most of these people are, commenting, but I know one thing for sure, you get all these mother fuckers in the same place, and we'll all have the same shit in common. We all feel the same exact thing, the memories from those days, the dislike and complaint about the way it is now, and we'd all probably chill like lifelong friends. We were NYC nightlife. Yes, NYC nightlife was ill before Giuliani.
ahh .. the Tunnel .. Used to be there every friday and saturday night when there wasn't a party. Palladium, Limelight .. If you didn't go to these three clubs before they closed, you never experienced REAL NYC clubs.
The tunnel, club twilo , the lime light, club vinyl, club speed , the shelter , o mg back in the days damn I miss it and yo twilo had the best sound system ever.
Whats the music name? thats the problem late-80's 90's had so many styles of club music, acid house , house ,trance, techno and so many artist, virtually nothing but commercialized crap (technotronic, cc music factory) was saved from that time.
Seems like a good era. Except there was no dance style, everyone just looks as if they are in a mosh pit, jumping around like spastics. Theres no better feeling/vibe when you get to a club and a track comes on and the whole floor just goes nuts. No matter the era, fashion fades & style remains. N thats why we will always be known world wide for our dance style in Melbourne, Australia ;)
70's 80's were the best in NYC. The 90's is kind of a lost decade. But there were some good times and each era has many memories.
Check out these must see nightlife interviews where host JERRY RIO asks the nightclub crowd the most outragous questions at (Mr Jerry Rio...channel or the Thyrdeye...channels.
OMG - I almost cried when I saw this! Tunnel was my home from '97 - '00. Saturday nights were out of control! Not givin a shit that it's Dec. and 25 degrees outside and we're wearin next to nothing! 18 and not a care in the world. Me and my usual crowd of 15 friends would be in our own little world and nobody else could even imagine if they weren't there. 5 hits a night and bumps on the dancefloor all night/morning long! Dancing on the HUGE speakers, rollin with glowsticks. Best time in my life!
dam.. the girls in this fuckin place...oh my god,... god looking girls from all over the place mostly one's from europe no attitude.. getting action from euro chic's....like crazy.
anyone one remeber frank alvee djing in tunnel..he used to do a power hour from like 2 to 3..was a good friend of mine havent spoke to in awhile..michael francis giving me drink tickets..lol..get in free drink free..just hadda buy my drugs..lol..sure do miss it!
this is soo depressing!!! I miss these days. NYC sucks ass now. There are no clubs! no cool kids.. only wanna be suits and golddiggers. noone is creative anymore. no more artistic crews. nada. i wish we could bring the 90s back in soo many ways! they closed all these clubs!! now u go to lounges and play with stuck up losers. i wanna cry!!
ah man this makes me almost want to cry...Watching this vid makes me realize how much I've changed and how lame I am now. I miss being a crazy drug addled party kid sometimes!!!!
damn, watching this makes me think of how much I hated Giuliani for shutting this club down. I remember going to this club during the winter time of 98. The bitter cold couldn't stop me from going to the tunnel.
@run666 hellz yeah..those tracks ran up the block from funhouse, thru the tunnel and over Roxy`s..now i hear they made a park outa whats remaining down on 14st...the tracks ran into westbeth which was kodak or bells first factory. i pretty sure thats where they made first poloroid camera..

the owner was forced to leave the country. it was in operation for a year or 2 after that but it wasnt the same. either way it was an end to the drug/rave culture.
the same guy also owned the limelight (which is still opened under another name) some chick o.d. on extacy right in the front lobby like 10 years ago or so. They took all his clubs away and fined him 1,000,000 in cash which he paid like it was nothing. I have been to all 3 clubs back in the day and it was the place to be. there will never be anything like it. Most clubs today are too commercialized.
