  • Amazing! You are the best, Maangchi! Best videos~<3

    비데오를사랑해요~~~!

  • Oh no, Maangchi! The best part is the head! I know many people don't like to look at it, but the head meat has the most flavor, in my opinion. Yum, I can't wait to this, especially the cucumber soup. Thanks, Maangchi!

  • easy recipe and delicious! :)

  • Is this the same dish as Kongchi?

  • @ceeIoc Makerel (godeungeo) and kongchi are different but the taste is similar. kongchi is saury in English.

  • i hope you dont mind but i guess i'll buy a mackerel tats been cut =[

  • you can just cut the head off from the beginning.

  • Hey papercuts777 said you make better korean food than him so I came to ask you how to make this like soup, but It was made out of beans. It had kim chi inside and had like a (vomit) look to it lol. Reall good, I put soy sauce on top of it and ate it.

  • @Mw2Recruit I think it sounds like kongbiji jjigae made with ground soybeans, kimchi, ...It's very healthful and delicious winter stew. If it's not what you are looking for, leave your question on the forum under general discussion on my website. Don't say the word,"vomit", my readers will be angry at you. : )

  • Does Mackeral have alot of bones? Also could you use a different fish too?

  • ahhh. the first part made me queasy.. but mackerel is soo delicious!

  • I like so much your recipes and the way you cook, and you are very cute...

  • hey maangchi i was wondering how u make the rice. nd i remember going to my korean friend house nd ate dinnner ther. her family made this black rice that was mixed with something. i heard its very healthy so i was curious of how to make it. also is ther any kind of type of rice u kno how to make?

  • @xxhunnyy

    1. Combine 1 cup of short grain rice, 1/2 cup of sweet brown rice, 1/2 cup of barley rice, and 2 tbs of black sweet rice

    2. Wash and drain a couple of times and put it in a pot with a thick bottom

    3. Pour 2 1/2 cups of water into the pot and soak it for a few hours.

    4. Bring the pot to a boil over medium heat for 10 minutes.

    5. Open the lid and turn the rice over with a rice scoop or spoon.

    6. Simmer it over low heat for another 10 minutes!

  • Hello Maangchi, I would like to learn a recipe but i'm not sure how to make it because all the recipes i have looked up so far is in korean and i am not that fluent in it. Would it be okay to request a way to make 유부초밥? i'm not sure what it's called in american but yeahhh. If you're busy i understand but i would very much appreciate it. Please and thank you !

  • @JenJK417 oh, ok, yubuchobap is very easy to make. It's one of my upcoming recipes.

  • Hi Maangchi, I'm Hannah from Sydney. Cos I'm living apart from my mom it's not easy to ask her how to make korean dishes I have craving for, and your cooking videos really help me a lot. I was actually not interested in cooking at all, but ever since I found you at youtube, I've been slowly getting into cooking. Yay! lol.. I really appreciate. Wanted to thank you and let you know someone you haven't even met before can soothe their homesick just by watching ur videos. THX!

That will be my first time! .

  • @elliottonyt Happy Birthday in advance! If you like Korean BBQ, check my LA galbi (korean bbq) recipe later. You can make it at home.

  • I always wait for your videos, I'm only 16 and you're helping me to learn how to cook =) thanks, more power to you. Your cooking makes me hungry... *drools*

  • How yummy!! I don't eat meat so when my family has Kalbi for BBQ, my mom makes this for me. It's really good on the grill!! I wish I can learn how to make the mackerel jorim style!! Thanks Manchi!! I'm such a fan!!!!!

  • I got to try the whole fish, because the canned Mackerel these days are not quality.

    Thank You!

  • 3:35 Aww Maangchi, you're such a trooper! The oil jumped and looked like it hurt you :( You need a band aid :] By the way, your face looks so adorable when you say "let it cook" after you put the fish in the oven hehe :)

  • LOL I love your comments when cleaning the fish! Have you watched the new TV show called Master Chef? The first episode they were doing tryouts and I'm pretty sure it was a Korean man named Michael Kim who's going on to the next round. He made duck ssam and hugely impressed the judges!

  • I was surprised Maangchi didn't add a clever comment when she was cleaning Mr. Mackerel's gills at 1:49. Hm, probably something along the lines of: "Maangchi! That tickles when you clean under my gills hehehe" ^___^

  • the poor fish!

  • YUMMY!!!

  • wow, u r a brave woman to cut up the fish like this, lol, i dnt think i could even do that, lol, GO MAANGCHI!

  • Thank you for cutting the head off! I don't like things to stare at me when I'm eating them! lol.

  • @yoyomax12 haha, it reminds me of my friend Julie living in Montreal. She covered the fish heads when she cut them off for the same reason.

  • How are you suppose to eat the fish while not eating its bones ?

  • @rosered130 LOL! You're just kidding right? How do you eat chicken without eating its bones? My goodness...LMAO.

  • Yes I heard the crunchy sound.. and it made my mount watering.

By the way I like it the way when you say "That's it.."

    Thanks ;)

  • OMG when u eat u make it sound sooo yummy!!! lol, i forgot to eat dinner yesterday Im so hungry now X'O~

  • Fish with guts means it's super fresh right?! HAHA!

  • The first time I had Grilled mackerel was at a soju tent at Hyundai Beach. I still love it.

  • i'm sooo hungry...but i just ate a big lunch x)

  • Haha, I'm not gonna lie. The gut removal made me cringe. But it does look good, ah.

  • @ssaemblog lol, cute!

  • @Maangchi Haha, I'm weird. I can handle bloody and gore action movies, but I can't handle fish guts. :( Hahaha.

  • @ssaemblog yeah, your comment made me laugh! I just left a message on my Facebook about your comment. I can handle fish easily but I don't think I can make Korean blood sausage(soondae). You are not weird.Check my official FB page, maangchi. I just left the comment 2 mins ago! : )

    =D

  • just lov to watch ur cooking!

  • hottest chef ever

    nice looking mackerel

  • That looks like a lot of salt! And that fried skin looks very black. Still, I love mackerel, so I must give this a try. Thanks for posting!

  • This is awesome! My mum wanted to make mackerel for a while now but she doesn't know what to make with it, we usually have the canned version :x So this is perfect!!! :DD

  • Poor Mr. Mackerel! It's not you're fault you were yummy and now you're in Maangchi's stomach! xDD

  • Not to worry about disgusting Mangchii, me and my family fish mackerel from the ocean every year, I am quite used to fish guts and such. Normally however, when you fish this you throw those disgusting things back to the sea. The seagulls go crazy over them.

But how bony is it? The ones we fish have bones practically everywhere, I usually swallow 5 bones every time we eat them. (Doesn't matter though, it's such a tasty fish).

  • im hungry now

  • maangchi <3

  • I can't imagine eating that cucumber soup lol...

but the fish is looooking awesome (:

  • thank you so much, my goodness i hate the smell of mackeral

  • OO you should make a video with fish roe! Like the little yellow eggs in a fish haha?

My family is from china and whenever I go back I always have some, its SO GOOD! I'd really appreciate a video of that! Thanks maangchi, food looks DELICIOUS! (as usual haha ^.^)

  • Hey Maangchi!! I love all of your recipes ^^~ Do you have any idea on what I can make for a food fair. My school are having a food fair next week and wanting us to bring food from all over the world! Do you have any suggestion??

    P.S It's 00:24 o'clock now in where I stay ^^ I luv mackerel so muchhh!!

  • xD my grandmother used to cook this all the time haha

  • it looks very happy

  • No other seasonings besides the salt? =(

I think I would really rather eat this with kimchi(and with rice of course). Due to the lack of seasonings on the fish.

  • @YouKube you seem to underestimate the flavour of the fish ^^ salted fish is amazing, just as it is =D

  • @YouKube Mackerel is a very flavorful, fatty fish. You don't need anything else but salt (well maybe a squeeze of lemon after it's cooked) to mar its flavor. With rice this fish is just sublime --my favorite.

  • I'm hungry now....hahaha

  • very2 sharp knife...~ ^^ u don't remove the gills? why?

  • omgggg i missed you maangchi!!!!!

  • Wow...bloody! But it should be tasty!

  • IM FIRST!

    Still looks good =) thankss~

  • @s2ELLIEphant hate to break it to you, but you're not the first.

  • I don't usually like fish, but this looks good. :)

  • looks delicious!

  • i love ur knife :) so sharp.. what product is it?
