@keeporjot Monarchists. "Republican" in Australia means to desire a republic. A Monarchist wants to keep Australia's political system unchanged (ie, with a monarch and governor general) while a Republican wants to change the constitution and have an elected head of state (a president).
I've always wondered actually...where do Queenlander Year 12s go after they finish school? :P I didn't go on Schoolies but I've always been curious about this.
@GreenCristina I didn't go to Schoolies either - I visited my sister in California instead. Many of my friends went to Bribie Island or the Sunshine Coast.
I used to want to go to Australia to visit the koalas and kangaroos. Now I want to go to Australia to visit your church. The churches in my area tend to either a) have no active members between the ages of high school and parenthood, which is lonely and isolating for a post-college twentysomething like me; b) have SO MANY parishoners that nobody knows anybody and attending church feels about as impersonal and anonymous as going to an out-of-town business conference; or c) have sketchy theology.
Oh Rohan, I love how you prioritize the news. Harry Potter was fantastic. I'm still waiting to go see it a second time. Prince William frightens me a bit. Why? Because I think he's a robot.
haha this was very cute

Although, I'm in the UK, I know what schoolies is from watching Home and Away and Neighbours. I shouldn't be proud of that should I? *sigh*
I love the sound of the red frogs though! Will be praying for them.

I love the Red Frogs. I was on such a big sugar high during my schoolies, and it was totally because of them

I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THE ROYAL ENGAGEMENT! :D
...but not because I'm particularly enthralled by the monarchy. I love weddings! It's going to be a HUGE WEDDING! And we get a Bank Holiday, too! :D
(And ok, a part of me loves the whole marrying a prince and becoming a princess thing... even if she is pretty upper class)

sillyhedwig 1 year ago
@sillyhedwig It's a week-long celebration school-leavers in Australia take part in at the end of high school.

@RoboFillet Is it like Spring Break here in the U.S.???

@SociologyGirl almost, except it's only celebrated by students at the end of their last year of high school after graduation.
