That recording was made in 1969, well after Sinatra's voice had begun to noticeably deteriorate. Although a nice rendition, if he had sung it the year it was written (1959), it would have sounded much better.
The scene is from the movie "High Society" starring Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly. High Society was the remake of the 1941's "The Philadelphia Story" starring Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn.
Life...what's Life if not just Everyday Struggle , full of Victims ... Victims in it's evey meaning...It constrains you to find and know yourself; To show your possibilities.
I look back at the "Rat Pack" era and cringe. The alcohol driven Las Vegas lifestyle isn't something I aspire to. But, I'm a musician and a singer and he is a musician and a singer and the rest vanishes when he sings. When I need a reminder of how important lyric interpretation is, bending the rhythmic phrasing to the flow of the words, finding perfect emphasis, making the audience wait for that word that caps it all off. Nobody was better at telling the story in song. Not to mention the pipes.
This is actually a translated version of the song written for the movie "Black Orpheus". It's called "Manhã de Carnaval" written by Luiz Bonfá and Antonio Maria. Songs from this movie are historically important to as one of the first that brought Brazian music and Bossa Nova to American ears. It was picked up on by people like Stan Getz eventually through A&M records brought Antonio Carlos Jobim to world recognition. BTW, the Sanatra version here is from 1969.
No matter how old it is, no matter how new it is, no matter the genre--metalheads, gangstas, punks, J-pop hounds, techno fiends, and classical aficionados alike can all come together under a single banner in order to proclaim the power of fantastic music.
While Frank Sinatra's work certainly isn't the only banner, I think that it's one of the finest banners available.
It is a great perform... This song is beautiful! Really is... I said that before....
I want to pay attention of Alice Groves perform this song! This song is like writing for her voice. I was very impressed listening her perform... Beautiful... really...!

@RealMusicKing Both films were masterpieces. My God, they're all dead now, but then again their legacy lives on.

Call me a fool, but I'd rather live in those times. You just can't find that kind of atmosphere nowadays.. nowhere. It was magic, back then.
