@Reconciled Let's dance is signified by the iconic benny goodman opening in a series of swung eighth notes ascending for 4 notes skipping down a couple steps for another series of 4 ascending eighth notes. The sets of ascending eighth notes happen the standard 3 times before going into a soaring altissimo note.
Any respectful soloist would go into a TRIBUTE Performance with research done to replicate the iconic sound and style of the era. Ever Benny's SIGNATURE Ending was mutilated.
Still, you Europeans don't understand us Americans. This attempt at Benny Goodman is weak. You have to throw yourself into the art you're studying. You can't do it half-assed.
Yes, the clarinettist plays an Oehler system clarinet; as I do myself. The sound and the solo is good (solo copied form Benny) but the arrangement kills the swing. Soggy strings where they should not be. too many drum interludes. Are there any saxes??? The Fletcher Henderson score is beautuful by itself.
o my god. sounds more like a lullaby. where is the passion? the jive? the trumbones must "scream", not hust. and look at the drummer. where are gene krupas of today? swing was the punk of the 30s. loud, rebellious. if you feel the real swing, your feet want to dance.
I don't know how it is possible....but they just made Sing Sing Sing...boring!

FYI ONE NOTE IS A BAD WHY TO START A SOLO.
FragRaptor 10 months ago
@FragRaptor Oh, should he have started with a two-noted harmonic overtone? The soloist was fine. The rest of it lacked energy.

"Let's Dance" is supposed to be an energetic swing-jazz song.
WHERE'S THE ENERGY???

***w you all! I loved IT! Sounds awesome!
Sure there are some balancing issues... But that is probably becouse of the
Recording, and not becouse of the arrangement.

Good try, but not at all in the spirit of the originator. Flaccid.

Fuck sakes. How about we just tie big, heavy, stones to our asses and run around the block?

Most flat-out arrangements I've ever heard. There's a reason why they call this jazz and play it in jazzbands
