It's just my personal opinion, but I believe that the train crews on this subdivision should have unlimited chiropractor visits...gettin' bounced around like that!
The weight of the locomotives sometimes causes the rails to move up and down (not exactly a bad spot) which makes the locomotives bounce and gives the crew that effect.
Gotta love the transcon. One big tamping nightmare after another. What crossing was this? I usually like to hit up CP Holliday where the Topeka sub juts in right before the yard throat at Argentine, and at Woodland drive.
The railroad can go as fast a they want to if u pull infront of a speeding train it isnt BNSF's fault. They have horns on all engines and lights bells and cross arms and if that isnt enough warning too bad!
That's what those rednecks deserve for going so fast! Faster...faster...louder...louder. I think they enjoy speeding through cities pissing people off. If they are so concerned about safety....common sense says to slow down. Duhhhh!
I do stay out of the way! But why the ridiculously loud whistles....I don't think sleeping in my bed 5 miles away at 2 AM is a threat to the train? Is it? If someone is stupid enough to try to drive around the tracks...let them get hit....at least people could sleep then. It's simply unnecessarily loud!
you won't be saying that if we kill somebody you love, or if your child walked across those tracks twice a day going to school. people think if there is no whistle blowing then there is no train. so why don't you put some earplugs in and think about somebody who isn't yourself.
Sorry, but everyone I know is not that stupid! Instead I think of my kids trying to sleep at night in what used to be a quiet house. What threat could the train possibly have five-miles away? Hmmm? Jesus, if someone can't figure out what the cross bars & flashing lights are for then they shouldn't be walking or driving without some sort of guide!!
You mean the trains just recently started blowing the whistle??? Well everybody i know can sleep through a train going by FIVE miles away...get ear plugs, they are very cheap and last forever. and btw, the trains were there before olathe even existed so tuff shit.
The number one reason for louder horns is simply this: quieter cars, and more careless drivers. 30 years ago, FRA regs mandated 80dbs horns at 50 feet. Now, they're 120dbs at 30feet.
Times change. And like Okie said, the railroad was there long before everyone else was. These aren't "rednecks" who just hop on a train and start blaring the horn for no reason. FRA/AAR regulations strictly regulate who does what, and when and where it is done.
you won't be saying that if we kill somebody you love, or if your child walked across those tracks twice a day going to school. people think if there is no whistle blowing then there is no train. so why don't you put some earplugs in and think about somebody who isn't yourself.
It just looks to me like the the locos have a bit of a suspension problem, because the cars on that train just went by without any kind of rocking or up or down motion. Also, the other train that went by didn't have any problems. Usually if there's a bad spot in the tracks, you'll see trains on both mains having problems.
Huh? So if one track is bad the other is just as bad? I am not getting the logic there...You can clearly see the cars dipping too (I know it is far from worst track ever!!!!).....And I've never heard of or seen engines just bouncing along on perfect track.
The other main was bad too, and you can kind of tell as the DPU's pass.
just a soft spot in the tracks. the engines are fine, but it will sure wake ya up lol. It could effect one track or both. The cars and engines are designed much different. remember that these locomotives weighs 415,000 lbs, and those cars only weigh about 250,000 lbs per unit.
That's not that bad. It just seems to me like the locomotives did more bouncing than the actual cars, and it was just in that one spot. Maybe the suspension in those locos was bad.
I spent an hour yesterday watching BNSF intermodals fly down this section of track in Olathe. I was shocked at the bouncing of the track and at the speed at which they go inspite of the bad track. All it will take is ONE wheel to trampoline off the track and there will be a big mess. This track is within mere feet of homes, parking lots and businesses. An accident just waiting to happen. It is one of the best railfanning spots in the Kansas City area though.
Reasons for rough track thru there is all the high traffic that uses the area, and many of the street crossings, unless there's a big accident, the rails are good until the next time they are inspected, the most they would do is lower the speed until the problem is solved, but its mainly all the crossings going thru there.
Haha, yeah i live in ohio, always seeing CSX and NS all over. its always nice to get out to places like Joliet to see BNSF, although CSX uses a surprising amount of BNSF power. any ideas on a subdivision you want to work on?
That sounds cool. I'd want to work for CSX on the Fostoria Sub/ The surrounding area, since fostoria has its own subdivision, im not sure what the others around it are called. If only CSX was a better railroad to work for
It's time to get UN underground passage_ railtrack the noise is getting to my nerves.

is there a chance is it derailing cause its bouncing so much like that? Just wondering

I sure don't need the Internet to see and hear the trains roll through Olathe, KS. I can see 'em live every day.

Amazing! 5***** video!

That was neat!
What causes that "roller coaster" effect?
Is it a bad spot in the rails?
writesong 2 years ago
Just when a section or the rails go slightly up or down, and it causes the locomotive to bounce. The springs are getting a good work out!

Wrong all the tracks have speed limits. All the locomotives have speed recorders. IF an engineer speeds , he can loose his job.

Its just a soft spot, you can see the mud splatter on the side of the rails, the locomotives bounce much worse because of the wieght.

Yes, exactly...thanks for clarifying
