  • It would be nice if you could be louder. I understand that you're naturally quiet, but that's not good for a youtube video. I have my volume all the way up on my laptop and I can't hear a thing.

  • wat kind of pastels do u use? o.o

  • what brand of pastels do you use ? this is a really great video , helped me a whole bunch xD

  • Dose the gloss wipe off if you want to change it or is there forever ?

  • I know its partly off topic ....but where do you buy the body parts and other things..

Ive gone to a bunch of websites but they really only show other doll creations D: Can you help me ??

  • @Hollow2theSoul you can in:: dollmore.net/

  • oh god, no! prismacolors are wax-based and will harm the resin! watercolor pencils are what you need to use. prismacolor does make watercolor pencils now, but for god's sake, stop using their regular pencils!

  • i agree, it's a bit hard to hear you. And one thing i did notice, if i'm correct, that's a four sister's head, which has absolutely adorable little 'teefies' down inside that mouth. The mouth should have been a bit more cleaned out so you could really paint those teeth and the mouth. If your having issues getting down inside the mouth, i'd reccommend a toothpick, and using an old white t-shirt you don't need, as a cleaner. I can usually get a head back to a pristine/new look using these.

  • where can i find the type of pastels u use?

  • @NekoGirlVampire craft store or art store ^^ it's actually easy to find but never use oil pastels ^^

  • Do you not have to cover the head with something before hand to help prevent staining?

  • @rinaXtokyo Chalk pastels only! Oil pastels stain the resin.

  • you do the heads or you buy it ? O.O

  • were do you get the bjd heads?

  • What pastels did you use? They look like my cheap ones I got, and I keep feeling bad for using them for faceups.

  • @Sing0Along0Alysha cheap pastels are fine. That's a total misconception that you need expensive pastels for face-ups. I would reccommend prismacolor pencils, however. :) They are love :)

  • Um...I could barely hear anything, even with the volume way up. I know that you're naturally quiet, but what's the point of making a tutorial if your audience can't even hear you?

  • This is great but how did you make the head and the eyes and body because I'm thinking of making my own doll line?

  • if ur looking for BJD dolls that are perfectly made go to DIMDOLL DoT C0m you can also send in a pic of your self and they can sculpt your face in to the doll :) but it's pretty expansive but beautiful :D

  • Do you still do face ups to this day? ^_^

  • Can someone please tell me what the difference is between a face up and a non face up doll? :) Please and thank you!

  • @KagomesSelf a doll with a face up means it has the make up on it such as painted lips blush eye lashes and etc. a non face up'd doll is completely blank. It is entirely just the mold. no coloring on the face at all.

  • nice video keep up the good work! ~^^~

  • MSC is the most important thing in Make Up.

It is used to coat and to protect the resin from stains.

  • hi! i dont know whether my last message was sent or not so just to make sure - can you recommend a matt sealer for the pastel colour you use on the dolls' face?

    love the vid - thanks

  • @cinderellapunkdolls Mister Super Clear. It's annoying because in the US it is hard to get ahold of (can order it online, but that jacks the price up especially with shipping). Don't use Krylon or Testors or anything like that, it's too low quality and can end up changing color, not applying right, etc.

  • Deviantart is a great site! :D

OK this doesn't do with face ups, but with the eyes, I do want to ask; there's a certain putty that's purchased for inserting the eyes into the eyeholes. Would just regular silly putty work as well? Thanks.

    And great video!!

  • can u try to be a little louder plz?

  • @caylicat Nope, I'm naturally quiet, sorry.

  • @caylicat Turn your computer up... not hard lol

  • @caylicat

just turn up the volume : D!?

  • hey i got a questing, using color pensols, well dos it erres whit the time, or it don't???? .-.

  • may i ask where you bought the head? (i dont want to bu the hole doll just the head and a body. but volks wont let me!!!!) thank you~

  • i love the four sisters head!

  • D:/ you can do the makeup whit color pens?!?!?!

    seriosly??....

wtf... i wold neever imagen it xD

  • Where can I purchase one of those doll heads? :)

  • Is the pencil a make-up pencil or can you use regular pencils? And if it is make-up, is it still possible to use an eyeliner pen?

  • What if you're leaving the lips bare for effect. Do you still need to glaze them?

  • I love your work! Its really beautiful, as are the dolls. I'm really interested in getting into doing face ups ... but I can't seem to find just a head to work on. They all come with bodies. I was hoping you would know where I could find a somewhat inexpensive head to use?

  • If you guys know a lot about dolls I'd like to know where you found it, it's surprisngly hard to find information on how to make good dolls, not silly cloth or paper ones, stuff like these, 'classic' and 'fancy' dolls.

  • they dont really have meany tutorials on makeing them.... pretty much every one that has a dollfie such as myself have bought them from various asian doll companys. and the dolls if you DO want to make them is a very dificult task.

  • omg that looks hard to do

  • well it depends on the company; but the basic materials used for professionally painted doll face ups are chalk pastels ,acrylic paints, sometimes colored pencils and various sealants. And unless you treat the head like crap, the face up wont come off easily. To remove the face, you can use distilled acetone or distilled nail polish remover. you could also use a Mr Clean Magic Eraser, but be careful. the magic eraser is a very fine sander, so don't scrub too much or too hard. hope this helps ^_^

  • xD; question if you've bought the the doll with face up, do you need to apply msc if you felt like redoing the make up ?

  • If you buy a doll with a face up and then you decide you dont like it, then you first must remove that face up before you start the new one. BUT to answer your question. yes you do need to apply at least one layer of MSC to the surface of the dolls head before applying the face up. as well as the first layer, you need to add layers in between the parts of the face. for example, do the brows, then spray, then the eyes, then spray . . . . and so on.

  • ^^ oh thank you for the tip ^__^

  • yes!

if you don't, you'll still end up staining the head, and that would suck!

when you're removing the faceup. you're removing the layers of MSC that held it there before.

  • if you remove the pre existing faceup, yes you need to re apply the MSC or the sealent you have.

when you remove a faceup, you're removing the sealent that used to be there :D

  • umm i thought MSC or any other sealant had to be sprayed first or is that and option?

  • If you want to be able to remove it better later to change it you should spray it on the face before starting, but yes, it is optional.

  • thank u!

  • I'm just buying from ebay :3

just search 'super dollfie' then the size you want. There are some pretty cheap ones there (and some really expensive ones: 700$ for a 1/3 SD??) the cheapest I've seen for a blank body was 140$ or so.

  • Ebay is loaded with recasts and pirated dolls...make sure you do your research! If it seems too cheap, it probably is!

  • Yes, something as cheap as $140 is not going to be what you want. Better to save alot for the real thing than pay cheap for a fake one.

  • @fmaneko217 I dunno if it's been said yet, and this'll probably get buried anyways, but Bobobie makes high-quality dolls for that cheap (or cheaper depending on the smaller size ones). Tinies can run that amount down to $80 or so, but yeah, you have to know your companies to know which ones can actually get that low-priced.

  • A lot of sites have the option to buy the body , the head or the "character" without a face up. It would take a while to get a list of those sites, but most companies allow for it. With volks you can get full choice and some dolls called "kits" don't come with faceups, but nor are they strung. Otherwise volks is the only big company I know of which doesn't allow for you to generally buy just the body or head.

  • Depends on the size, I'm going to buy one of the SD 1/3 (60 cm version) and he'll cost 290$ just for the body/head and face up.

Eyes (glass) are about 8 dollars a pair

Most peices of clothing are about 15$, it depends on how extravagant they are and who you buy from.

    Wigs are from 15-25$

(again, these are all for the 60cm/2ft Super Dollfie brand :3 the smaller the dollfie, 1/6 and 1/4, the cheaper, but they arnt as detailed)

  • wat my sis wants 1 4 her b-day

  • I don't know...

    Good luck.

  • thanx

  • i will make a creepy looking doll

  • Okay...?

  • Note to self!!!!

"Buy all Face up materials from Volks"

  • Hi ^_^ Did you make the doll head or you buy it ? and if so where can I find it ?

  • What are good sites where I could buy a BJD? I'm going to buy one very soon.

  • Can you remove the face up later when your bored with the makeup? and if so then How?

  • I sent you a pm, sorry I just got back from my 3 hour long Bio lecture, so I didn't catch this earlier.

You don't really need to write a comment and send me a pm, one or the other will work.

  • where u buy all this stuff x_x

  • I got the doll at volksusa . com and the pastels and colored pencil at a craft/art store. The other stuff is makeup supplies that you can find anywhere.

  • Yeah. There's one going from one hand through the chest to the other hand and a longer one goes from the head to both feet.

  • I thought you had to use watercolor pencil since normal color pencil wouldnt come off? I have lots of prismacolor pencils, but on DoA everyone says to just steer clear of it

  • I personally don't have problems with prismacolor colored pencils coming off clean with a mr.clean eraser sponge and water, I guess some people do. Watercolor will come off much easier because it's made to be water soluble, it just dissolves.

The only things I know to stay away from are any markers and things with oil in them.

Anyway I find the prismacolor come off easier than even the mr.clear face-up type of coating which is actually made for the dolls.

  • HeatherC19,

I think you can use watercolor pencils also, they're supposed to be safer for the resin and they wash right off.

  • lol, completely understandable!

  • just so you know whatchamacallit=blush brush I believe! Lol

  • Yep, sometimes those strange words escape me.

  • I'm a tad bit confused,

is the make up removable? and if you order one from volks does it come with the makeup on?

  • Yes the chalk pastels and the colored pencil I'm using are removeable.

If the doll is a "kit" you have to put them together and do the face-up, if it's not, you get a face-up included.

  • so you can either choose to buy a kit, or just a regular doll with makeup and everything assembled?

  • Yes, most of the msd can be bought in kits, otherwise you get a finished doll.

  • where can you get artist grade pastels?

  • What doll did you get...I was looking at the site and am a little confused. I want one exactly like yours. So if you could get back to me I'd appreciate it.

    By the way, awesome vid^^

  • That's a Volks Megu.

It's the same mold as Sara, Nana and Kira. ^^

  • Aw, I love that your bird is chirping in the background. x3

  • I'm a newbie here!

Where did you find your dollfie doll in itself?

  • volksusa. com

  • Is there a specific kind of colour pencil to use?

  • Probably not, but I use prismacolor #PC946 dark brown.

  • what is the name of the itme that you use to gloss the lips?

  • It's by sculpy and it's glaze for the clay but I use it for lips. It comes off easily and works well. I use the gloss kind for shiny lips and the satin kind for usually boy's lips. Also for the boy's lips If I'm lucky enough to have some mr.whatever spray then I'll use that. I just got it at the local Seirra's you might also be able to find it at a micheal's.

  • I've been making dolls, and sculpting faeries for awhile, but the sculpy glazes are the best of any I've ever tried, they dry quickly and smoothly to a hard finish, and are never sticky, which many other professional sealers I've tried are. I find them the best on dolls for that reason, I usually use a single coat of sculpey satin glaze for the eyebrows etc, and gloss for the lips, they protect the paint from scratches really well because they dry hard. they are the only glazes I would suggest.

  • I heart that face! It's a really cute one! *goes to watch pt 2*

  • how do you put in the eyes??
