this is an mma match not vale tudo. vale tudo is outlawed in most countries, and events are sometimes only titled this for traditional reasons especially in Brasil. downward strikes with the elbow are illegal in most mma matches. kind of silly of him to do this, because it looked as if he was dominating the match.
Makes sense..but we can't forget Vinicius is first n foremost a capoeirista..where anything goes and there's no such thing as ''illegal blows'' in a real capoeira fight, so i presume vinicius reacted on pure fighting instinct, forgetting the rules.
true, and this is not one of the more violent ways to use a downward elbow. the only problem i could see was that he may have struck the back of his opponents head. i think that standing downwards elbows should be ruled differently. for me, the rule should say no downward elbows to a grounded opponent.
yeah through all the capo fights ive seen. its practically useless in a ring fight due to the enclosed spaces. plus the dance fight part is mostly just show but marcus accually is the only one who knows how to use it correctly in enclosed spaces.. thats just my opinion
There are definitely others, it's just that, total, there aren't many capoeira fighters in MMA, total. AND capoeira--and it's trainers, teachers, etc.--isn't particularly well-known or in the spotlight as a martial art.
Yeah you're right. I'm a capoeirista and I seen most people do a ginga in the ring. Many capoeiristas that I've met, don't train to actually fight, they train for the game.
I hear Axe capoeira is top notch in turning out fighters that can manage beautifully in the Roda and come back to whoop as in the ring/cage.
yeh Axe has quite a reputation, even my group has referred to them once. I belong to ACER, who follow similar fundamentals. though we practice to fight mainly using every style of capeoira known and aspects of hand strikes, take downs and ground work. the objective is first the fight then the dance. because that's the order capeoira was created.
You don't need to train with axe to pick up the same fighting principles. just try and find a group that teaches how to fight both in and out the roda. Its not as hard as you think, its all about knowing what your looking for. plus by limiting your search for an axe group your limiting yourself to what you can find. Axe is not the best vale tudo capoeira group out there. they are simply the most well known.
nah not really, the kicks were capoeria dats it. it looked more like a thai clinch to me in the coner. but i have seen him use it in a fight though.. matter of fact i think i have a vid of him using it in my favs section
That still not changes the fact that he is a fighter of Axé Capoeira and trained by Mestre Barrao. And it's not only a thai technique. Whatever is your art, if you want to knee someone in the chest or head how do you hold him if not like this?
never said dat he wasn't a axe capoeira fighter. and o.k u make a good point about kneeing to the chest and or head. but my question to u is does axe capoeira teach the clinch game in that way?this is obviously MMA so i assumed that he must have learned some mauy thai, only since thai boxing is in fact the number 1 stand up in mma.I've personally have never took axe cap.so i don' t know if any grappling is tought at all.and if so then my comment was pure ignorance, even if i said "LOOKS LIKE 2ME".
I dont know what does Axé Capoeira teach, becouse I'm not from the Axé group. I think Axé must teach some groundfight, becouse their fighters often go to Vale Tudo fights. I only can tell you that on our trainings, when we are doing the knee smash, we hold the necks this way, and they might too. Sorry for the things I misunderstood. Axé Capoeira is teaching knee kick, so I think If he wanted to knee his opponent reapeatedly, then this was the best way for it.When 2nd went to the corner, pureCapo.
pureCapo-i gotcha. matter of fact they do tech sum kind of groundwork.where r u from? do u train in brazil? the reason y im asking is because i think vala tudo is illegal in the u.s... well i haven't been to any or/and have never heard of any underground promo's in my state. V.sliva use2 do dat rite? and I didn't understand y marcus got disqualified ether.I've seen Gary Goodridge squeeze dis one guys nuts until submission once, lol. and he won the fight. i dnt know, it jus doesn't make sense...
I wrote "pureCapo" becouse of the limited caracters. Im from Europe. I don't think he's got disqualified, I think, who posted this video thought that he's so clever to notice something illegal, and wrote it here. In many other Vale Tudo fights I saw attacks to the back of head. You mean Gaty Goodridge vs. Marcus Vinicios? I haven't found any results on either versions.
WTF!!! Why does everyone have the same name as me! How many dog gamn John Halls are there out there??!!! How am I suppossed to establish myself with the same name as a senator, multiple muscians, multiple artists, an NFL football player, 2 people i know, and the list goes on and on!

Ok, thx! I already thought something weird was going on. I didn't realise that most Vale Tudo matches were in fact MMA nowadays.. bloody shame.
