1. Poorly written dialogues and storyline.

2. Extremely annoying characters that you can't feel sorry for.

3. Forced events that feels out of place (like Snow and Sera).

4. The game plays itself / extremely linear / no world maps.

5. Very slow pace / Takes 30 hours to get to the interesting part.

None of them are anywhere near the same game, all have MULTIPLE playthroughs with the same turn based system. 10 was straying away but even counting it, I don't see a drop off point where they 'needed to make a change to the battle system' at all. @TheLittleloopy I think the problem with XIII is that it drops the most traditional elements of a FF game and introduces the most new elements of a FF series. (and FF has been going in this direction since FFX). In a sense, while XIII has built a new audience (which isnt a bad thing at all), it left behind those who loved the traditional values of a FF game (which is how I feel).

Its the Halo Reach of the FF series (while I liked Reach, there were many Halo fans that didnt like Reach).

Luckily it took off and allowed them to stay afloat and achieve great success. Square-Enix is well known now and not just for FF games. The reason ppl keep asking for remakes, is because they clearly have no interest in making new FF games in the old style so we would settle for remakes. We love the turn based strategy rpg FF used to be.
