i've lived in japan 10 years and i've never bowed down to any japanese anywhere. besides there's others ways to respect their heritage but above all else just respect people the way you'd want to be respected. that goes for anywhere in the world as far as i'm concerned.

I like Savage, but bowing to people in Japan is not a subserviant gesture, it's a means of greeting somone. I've lived in Japan (hated it, my advice is don't go there), and I'm currently living in Korea (love it).
As for bowing to the Saudi king, that was absolutely an ass-kissing gesture and he should have never done it.

In traditional ways of Japan, when commoners meet the Emperor, they must kneel both knees and are never allowed to see the Emperor's eyes and to speak directly. Although such customs were changed after the war, the Emperor is still very special for Japanese people like the Pope for catholic people. The Emperor is rather a religious symbol, than a political existence. If anyone can't accept this, he don't have to meet the Emperor. Obama proved his wisdom but sorry for him, he was too tall.

The sad thing is, while a bow to the Emperor was correct, Obama totally botched it. By bowing that low he didn't show respect to the Emperor, but instead disrespect. If he knew anything, anything at all, that idiot would have known that if you bow you only do so very slightly and NEVER break eye contact.
